Description Many times have people asked how I do my traditional colored pencil works. And now I have finally finished my second tutorial. This one tells not only using of normal colored pencils but also the watercolor pencils, because if I make a drawing with colored pencils I allways use also the watercolor pencils. I almost never use water with the watercolor pencils, I just love the stronger and more covering feeling of them.

This tutorial tells actually only about skin coloring, but the tecnique is same when I color something else.

If you are interested about my traditional art tecniques, you should also see my watercolor tutorial.

how do you colour the hair with pencil crayons?

nokecha In reply to MayFlorence [2014-10-03 19:05:26 +0000 UTC]

I used colored pencils for the whole picture and the technique used for the skin also works for the hair.

nokecha In reply to Mochizuki-Rin [2013-07-23 09:45:34 +0000 UTC]

Mostly Derwent, but also some Faber Castell watercolor pencils, at least mine are fine, but they are pretty old so maybe they arent good nowadays.

I tried it out, though I didn't have the colors you recommended, so I tried the closest colors I could get.Β  It looks a lot nicer than how I was just using plain ol' peach for skin lol

How do you suggest blending the colors? Do you use a tool of any kind?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nokecha In reply to WhiteMageRinny [2013-03-23 19:58:18 +0000 UTC]

I just use the colored pencils, usually first light pressure layers done with darker colors and then heavy pressure layers on top of them using lighter colors, usually white.

WhispersSweet [2013-02-10 20:52:22 +0000 UTC]

So you don't go over anything with water? Thats normally what you do with watercolor pencils?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nokecha In reply to WhispersSweet [2013-02-12 14:14:24 +0000 UTC]

No, not really. I like so vivid colors and thick coloring so I don't use them traditionally. Sometimes I dip a watercolor pencil in water and after that it has a really strong color.

This was fantastic, thank you so much, I have one question though, do you have a tutorial for hair???
I know you said it was coloured in the same way, but I would love it all the same, one more thing, how do you personally choose where your shadows go???
Thank you again so much, and I'm sorry if I'm pestering a bit

The brand doesn't matter, same tachniques work with those colored pencils as well!

Yeah but i don't have all those colors. What colors would i use
to substitute the ones i don't have?

I don't know about the brand you have so you just have to try to find the colors that are the closest.

Ok. So I was wondering...how do you keep your paper so clean when you scan it? I'm confused.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nokecha In reply to ultradudepatric [2012-08-02 12:10:21 +0000 UTC]

You always need to clean up the picture in photoshop after scanning it. I use Adjustments > Levels or Curves for that and then just brush to clean up mess

how do u shade with the pencils, i mean how do u stroke ur pencils
