When you color it with base colors, how much pressure do you add while coloring?

Cat-nipp In reply to TechnoRa1nSh1ne [2014-01-29 21:17:29 +0000 UTC]

You want to use a lot of light pressure. Think about slowly building up colour over time.

It took a really long time and many Xmas/ Birthday presents to get mine. You can get a good deal on ebay for the bigger packs

At the end it looks like you done the whole thing with Photoshop But the first image of the hair (base color, not blended yet) shows that you've really drawn it with real colored pencils

Oh wow! Thank you! The only thing I did in Photoshop (besides the layout) was the eyes to show you how I colored them (since it was too small to notice in the picture haha) Thanks so much for your kind words!

It looks good! You should try putting more shadows in it for example in the deep part of the cowlick, on the face where the hair is covering over, and under the nose. Don't be afraid to use dark colors like dark brown or even black, of course this picture does not need black shadows! haha! I love that you used different colors for the shading, It really makes the picture look more real. Using colors like blues or reds in skin or hair, (colors you don't normally think are there, but are) make the picture pop. keep that in mind on your next picture! it takes practice, trial and error. When I was learning how to color I drew a picture, inked, scanned, and printed it out a few times and practiced that way. I ripped pages out of my sketchbook since computer paper is not good to practice on. Good luck and keep on drawing!

I don't have a prismacolor blender pencil, is there anything I could use that can give it the same/similar effect?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JaqD In reply to tarry908 [2011-11-27 00:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm off the top of my head I cant think of anything. But the blender pencil can be used in other mediums as well, like pastels ect. they cost the same as a normal prisma pencil (I think $2) and you can get them in almost any art store the carries the brand. I'm sorry that I could not be any more help.

your welcome ^-^ well Prismacolor pencils are pretty expensive. Sets range from $6.00 (for 5) to about $350.00 (for like 500) here is a website where it tells you more about them [link]
