BEHOLD THE BABY BOI I'VE BEEN SLAVING OVER FOR SO LONG AAAAAAAAAAA

This boi... has so much in him that I love. He's a GIANT lovecraft reference, basically being the lovechild of Cthulhu and The King in Yellow, both things I've wanted to make characters off of for so long, he's got a neato body horror mouth, he f e e l s so bloodborne-y, he's got giant cult vibes, just-
I love him- I couldn't be happier with how he came out. He's also just kinda been one of those things I've started working on while being in a bad place and so he just got glued to my side oops.

Knul'lou'roth was originally a king, though his exact species and old name has been lost to his memory. The kingdom was one day seiged by mindflayers, and those who were not killed in the battle were captured, Knul's original form being one of them. One by one, his people were subject to the ceremorphosis process, where a mindflayer tadpole is inserted into the brain, where it then consumes it and takes over the host's body. But... perhaps it was the undominable will of the king, or a muttered prayer heard by a merciful god, but his memories were not completely lost to him in the process, and as he went through the horrible and painful transformation, he never forgot who he was. Once the process was complete, the elder brain attempted to make contact, and upon finding one of it's new inductees to be of an... "Abberant Mind", it ordered it's mindflayers to slay the failure.
Knul escaped, somehow. The details are blurry to him, but all he could remember was a strong urge to leave, and like that he was gone.

Now I can't give away a lot of his more recent backstory, since Knul's not just a player character, but also an important NPC later in the game I DM.

Knul is now worshiped by a sect of Kou-Toa, and his clericism now comes from their maddened worship of him for what he is, and what he represents. They were the ones that created his robe, and his "Weapon", a censur/thurible that's been converted into a flail. It is seen as a holy weapon from his congregation, though it holds no real radiant power... yet.
