Description Here is the contents to bandai's 1/144 RG(real grade) Rx-78-2. the grandaddy of all gundams, this ones design is a classic and in my personal top 5 mecha. i have heard a lot of things about these newer RG line of models and recently i saw a pretty good sale on them(this was about $20 us) My first MG gundam was of this badboy so i figured it would be fitting. Overall i am super duper impressed by this model. it features tons of gimmicks, and an eye popping level of detail stuffed into a smaller scale. the biggest gripe i have so far is the stickers as they really should of at least thrown in waterslide decals(like they do for wars kits ect) from my experience, stickers will give it a toy like look and there is no real way to make them look "realistic" anywho hopefully that will be one of the few gripes i have with this kit. from the looks, everything from the box art to the tiny fiddly bits looks to be excellent.

i have a pretty busy and stressful week coming up, so this look like a good, laid back model to keep my busy and destressed. me and my older rx are pretty excited to dig into this fine scale model. my plan is to pretty much build outta the box, bit of painted details and will try a bit of weathering on it. overall it should be a "easy" and enjoyable model build.

As always, questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

Yeah, I hear you, IΒ built 4 of the 1/72 scale Macross-Type Veritechs, each with an obscene number of moving parts.
I'm convinced being crazy is what made me believe I could do it in the first place.

i have yet to get my hands on a Macross, they still look pretty intimidating to me. i have yet to do a kit that fully transforms. but after these smaller ones i might give it a shot.

I'm pretty sure I still have a VF-1S in 1/72 scale, but I'd have to dig around to find it.
I gave the original instruction sheet to someone I thought to be a friend, hoping for a translation, but both disappeared without a trace.
I do have a black and white instruction book from a Revell version of the same kit, so it would be no problem for a builder of your skill set.

Assuming I can remember where I stashed it, the whole kit-n-caboodle is yours free for the asking.

yea i have had some really great kits over the years and this one really impressed me. with the price factored in, i would say its in my top ten.Β  if you ever seen one of these RG gundams, i would say give it a try. think you would get a kick out of its engineering and how the model goes toghter.

I really need to get in to kits when I have the time to do that ^^

yea they do soak some time. but the great thing about these kinda kits is there easy assembly and color molded plastic. you can build them outta the box, give them some clear top coat and have them look pretty good, without spending ages on them.

Just need to get myself together and finish the three other projects I have going on right now before I can allow myself to start anything new or at least 2 out of 3

hahha it kinda does, andΒ  both influenced each other and mecha over the years. bit of a fan of the power rangers as well.

hahaha that i might have in spades. really this model looks extreme(it slightly is) but really all that is needed is some time and a bucket of patience.

I was never a fan of the 1/144 scale gundam kits but it seems like they have changed them a great deal with the real grade line. They actually have inner frames now? What else is different between real grade and the old 1/144 kits?

enc86 In reply to EpiyonVWingzero [2015-05-04 23:24:36 +0000 UTC]

i have built a few HG 1/144 and i was not really a fan myself. there was just no WOW factor that the MG's hold for me. i have heard alot of buzz about this line but orgialy stayed away due to the scale and dumpimg my money on MG or other kits in general. anywho saw a bucnh of these for well under $30 and thought i would give one a shot.

they are actuly pretty impressive, feauting inner frames and loads of detail. the possibility and articulation is great(on par with MG it seems) armor plates shift and move like on MG,PG and overall it looks really really dang good outta the box. Loads and loads more panel lines and detail than the HG conterparts and the overall style/proportions seem to have a more "realistic" look to them over the HG. half way through building this one i bought the RG freedom, and form a quick comparison, it looks to beΒ  better than my MG of it. combided with the price i would say these RG are pretty fantasic model kits.

there seem to be only a few negatives i can see so far. first off the stickers as i think its silly they can do provide a water slide sheet(like they do for some MG and wars kits) the frame feels really tight and nice but might be a nightmare to even think about painting(compared to MG frames). all so i feel do to its size, modification to the kits will be much harder(tho i have not needed to yet) allso due to the engineering, lighting would be almost imposable on a kit like this. i have a few smaller gripes, wanting more hands(it comes with two sets) and the fact that this RX78 does not included the full kit of weapons for it(as i would of liked that over a mini core flyer gimmick it features) but in this case i really feel the good out weights the negatives about this line, and was so impressed they sold me on a few more.

Wow, I may have to start considering the real grades the next time I buy some models. It sounds they are just mini master grades which is awesome (wonder what took Bandai so long to do something like this).Β

they really do feel like mini MG, which is pretty neat in their own right. i say when you see a great sale , pick one up(amazon has loads for under $25us) even if you felt they were not that great, i think you would really enjoy the engineering behind them.

yea me too as it seems like a natural evolution for them. i would think it was the molding technology. over the last few years i have seen them come leaps and bounds. these RG frames/arm/leg are molded on the runners moveable and with the Polly cap like plastic already molded on the styrene plastic.

Lol I remember getting this one for free after buying a few 1/144 HGBF and not liking the style of this one at all, didn't fit with the others, and I don't like the way it builds on a frame
So it's lying half built under my bed

hahaha that is kinda funny! i have built some HG but didn't really care for the builds/style but loveing this RG so far. i will admit tho it looks like its style is much much different than the HG's i have seen or have on hand.
