Description
Wha-? enchan made a tutorial? You better believe it! I spent all day on it
For those of you who have asked me how it's done, I present to you the step-by-step manga tutorial~~~!
It's very unprofessional...T___T I'm sorry...I do hope it helps though.
And that tachikiri guide I tell you I'll provide here is here-> [link]
Full view to see the tutorial....It's huuuuge O_O Gomenne~~T^T
The mini comic features my characters from the webcomic MAJESTY -> [link]
I know it doesn't make sense...but I had to come up with something fast enough for the tutorial. (It might make sense if you know the characters
Good Luck~! And enjoy!
Required Tools: The media shown in the first step of the tutorial, Photoshop 5 or higher and ComicWorks.
EDIT: Thanks everyone for all the favs! I'm happy you found this helpful in some sorta way XD;; I edited my site address in the description...and maybe one day I'll fix the address on the tutorial---but it is wrong XD....Remember~~~>enchantma.com!
ANOTHER EDIT: Okay, so the Tachikiri guide isn't working...Nevermind that. Every publishing company has it's own guides anyway but the standard is that the page dimensions should follow a 2:3 ratio.
MORE EDIT: Thank you, for bringing this to my attention but you can find the Tokyopop template if you Google "mechspec5"...She says, "The second link, a pdf file, has the template at the bottom of it"
Now please stop asking me where it is XD;;
FINAL EDIT (I hope): I HAVE A NEW TUTORIAL THAT SHOULD ANSWER WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. Please check it out BEFORE asking questions. Thanks!

HURRAY! A Manga tutorial! Concidering the fact I pretty much have no clue how to make comics and design them, I am sure you can imagine my elation at seeing a tutorial for it. Or rather, one branch of the large range of the profession, but you get it. I am babbling... >_>
It's also very good and indepth, and really is of great help! I'm glad you posted this and took the time to make it for us Deviants.

I have a problem, where exactly can you get a tachikiri guide, or if there's any specific measurements I could use to make my own?
So far I've seen 2 Mangas ever, the DN one I bought and one I found in Tesco (Yu-Gi-Oh!), they're both small like a novel.
It's just resized right? I was hoping to get one of them big comicz because of these tutorials I keep seeing but now I'm more confuzzled and tempted to make small comic size O.o

enchantma In reply to M-A-F [2008-05-28 00:06:05 +0000 UTC]
size really depends on what you're comfortable with and what works. the best thing to do is work at a large dpi so you can still double the size of your printed pages if you work small. I draw my first draft at 7"x10" and shrink it down for the toning process working at about 5"x7" at 600dpi. I've enlarged pages taking up the whole 8.5"x11" piece of paper and it still looks nice with no quality lost. The regular graphic novel size is about 5"x7.4375" and then there are bleed areas to worry about. If you're not having a comic published then the bleed area and page size really shouldn't concern you, but you should keep the page sizes and dpi consistent each time. My final versions are always 5"x7.4375" (with bleed area included) for works I plan on publishing.
It's a little confusing, but if you start measuring stuff and mimicking you'll figure it out just fine. I hope this helps
best of luck!

Hmm, I was wondering if the tachikiri-thing is "important" when you're making a manga without computer? I've never heard about it befor and I don't understand what it's used for...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
enchantma In reply to MangaAnimeLover [2008-05-04 17:28:55 +0000 UTC]
The tachikiri guide is only important if you plan on printing a comic book. It helps you determine where the bleed area is so you know what will get cut off in the printing process. If you're creating a webcomic, it doesn't apply. Publishing companies today now each have their own printing sizes (at one point they were all pretty much the same, so this tutorial is a little outdated) so if you do plan on publishing your comic, be sure to check out the guides of that company.
Hope that clarified things a bit

MangaAnimeLover In reply to enchantma [2008-05-04 18:03:20 +0000 UTC]
It does, thanks
But still, I'm not 100 percent sure what a "bleed area" is, but it's okay since I don't need to know

Heeeeey interesting ^^ I work in a doujin circle and do it more sloppy than you XD:
- think out the story, write it down in a very sloppy way
- start sketching the pages very very roughly, not even using a ruler for my boxes
- make my friend use a ruler to do the boxes neatly XD
- draw the second sketch after erasing the first one a bit
- ink the second sketch and erase it
- scan and apply tones to the pages in manga studio.
:3 I hate making the neat straight panels XD and they usually don't end up straight when I do them,...so I don't do them . And maybe you were doing this already as well but it's useful to look at the pages that will be next to each other in the book before you draw the panel lay-out. That way you can make the pages 'fit' more with each other.
/blah
very nice tutorial~
