One of their very creations were the artificial life forms constructed through just mere gemstones. These life forms were the Gems, who served the Ancients as servants, warriors, advisors, and entertainers. Though no one knows what species these creators were, whether they were Galvan, Cerebrocrustecean, Halcandran, Asgardian, Highbreed, Endermen, Oan, Chronian, or even a new species their traces reveal that they were likely the first sentient species in the universe, not counting the Slimebiotes. They were the Ancients of Homeworld.
- The Gems were not the Ancients' only creation however, as they had created many artifacts of great power, capable of harnessing limitless energy of which could control the aspects of reality itself. Though no record survives to tell how high their ambitions rose, the remnants unearthed from the ruins and dust of Homeworld reveals a terrifying yet incredible potential. Some of these artifacts include items such as the Map of Infinity of which could take a being anywhere in the entire multiverse(which was ultimately split into four pieces by a certain Time Walker), the Eye of Agamotto designed to manipulate large quantities of psionic energy, mana, and magic, the Infinity Gauntlet of which was crafted for the purpose of harnessing the immense power of the six Infinity Stones, and the Novas which were created as celestial engines to calculate any desire and grant any wish: infinite potential in the form of a clockwork star.
- The Ancients' ambitions were truly incredible, and as their ambitions grew to disprove the quote of the Celestialsapiens: "Man cannot create god." In their ambitions they created a newer Gem, one of which was more powerful than any of the other Gems that they created and capable of rivaling a To'kustar in power. This Gem was known as Prime Diamond. Prime Diamond was created for the purpose of serving as the Ancients' ultimate manipulator of all of Homeworld. However, Prime Diamond was different from all of the Gems, possessing a superiority complex as great as her power. She decided to seize power from the Ancients by force and made an example of them by splitting the entire planet in half, bringing the Ancients to their extinction with not even one corpse or skeleton as a remnant of their life force. She would then have any Gem that defied her rejuvenated if useful to her, but shattered if useless.
- The era of Prime Diamond's existence was known as Era 0.
- Prime Diamond would eventually rule Homeworld with a ruthless iron fist, and created the Great Diamond Authority to manage her empire. In order to expand her "perfect" empire Prime Diamond leads The Great Diamond Authority in colonizing planets to create more Gems. White Diamond in particular was her tool to serve as an ambassador for her legacy. The Diamonds would conquer many planets however there were many that resisted their rule. One planet in particular was known as Mor' Otesi.
- The Crystalsapiens of Mor' Otesi fought Homeworld in what was known as the Ten Century War. During the first seven centuries of the war, it seemed as though the Crystalsapiens would be in a loosing battle, for even with their incredible power over energy and ultraviolet light(of which could keep a Gem from regaining its physical form for many weeks), they did not have an empire as powerful as Homeworld. However, it was simply Azmuth crash-landing on Mor' Otesi en route to Earth to dispose of a powerful weapon known as Ascalon, that would ultimately turn the tide of the war.
- During a battle between several Crystalsapiens and many Lapis Lazulis, Azmuth's ship just so happened to have been shot down by a stray blast. The Crystalsapien warrior who accidentally blasted Azmuth went over to his ship to see if he was okay. This warrior was known as Obsidian. Azmuth explained what he was attempting to do, but noticed what Homeworld was doing to many planets, and thus he reluctantly handed the sword over to Obsidian, warning him that the last person who wielded the weapon destroyed the planet Incursia. Obsidian took his warning and vowed to use the weapon responsibly. Obsidian helped win many battles with the weapons with Azmuth as his guide and mentor. Obsidian fought not only for Mor' Otesi, but for many other worlds as well, even gaining the attention of a studious Highbreed outcast known as Orion. Though the next two centuries of the war, Obsidian used Ascalon to cleave the entire population number of invading Gems in half.
- Obsidian fought to protect and liberate worlds, while Prime Diamond fought to enslave and harvest them. Thus, a final battle between the two wielders of incredible cosmic power was eminent. During the final battle that would decide the fate of the entire galaxy, Obsidian and Prime Diamond fought endlessly for many hours. Prime Diamond seemed to have the upper hand as she did not require a weapon to wield immense cosmic energy, but it was Obsidian's force of determination and will that kept him from letting go of Ascalon in the battle even once, and with a final thrust straight to Prime Diamond's chest, Obsidian stabbed the destroyer of the Ancients in the gemstone before cleaving it into several shards, shattering Prime Diamond, ending her reign, the Ten Century War, and Era 0. Obsidian returned Ascalon to Azmuth(to whom would eventually give it to Sir Geroge) and was known as the greatest war hero in the entire galaxy to date.
- The Great Diamond Authority would take over after Prime Diamond's shattering, under the command of White Diamond. Homeworld was severely setback by the Ten Century War and had to regroup its resources and troops, colonizing planets at a much slower rate than they used to.
- White Diamond, acting as the leader of all Gems, constructs the Gem Homeworld's society and emphasizes the importance of perfection that Prime Diamond taught her, still managing the Homeworld's Caste System, the ban of cross-Gem Fusions, and the instilled punishments for those who are not deemed "flawless". This was what was known as Era 1.
- Tired of asking Yellow and Blue for her own colony, Pink Diamond chose to ask White directly, only to be rejected. In a fit of rage, Pink Diamond damaged her Pink Pearl's left eye. Pink Pearl was then taken away from Pink Diamond and put under White's control. Then, the Diamonds replaced Pink Pearl with Spinel as a new playmate for Pink, and Pearl as a replacement for managing Pink Pearl's tasks.
- After much begging and pleading, Pink Diamond was allowed to colonize Earth after getting permission from Blue and Yellow Diamond. She and her Gems arrive there to begin a new colony, with a Moon Base constructed on the moon for her to check the status of Gem creation in the Prime Kindergarten. Pink Diamond eventually wanted to be at the Prime Kindergarten to play with the Amethysts, but in order to not be scolded by Yellow and Blue Diamond, Pearl gives Pink the idea of shapeshifting into a Rose Quartz soldier to blend in. In her Rose Quartz disguise, Pink, Pearl, and Spinel arrive at the Kindergarten where Pink meets the Amethysts. In order to not draw unnecessary attention, Spinel suggests that they travel off to see the outside of the Kindergarten and Pink becomes fascinated by the beauty of Earth. She soon realizes completing her colony would destroy all she grew fond of. Thus, Pink Diamond(or in this case, Rose Quartz) and her Pearl and Spinel defect from Homeworld and form the Crystal Gems to shut down the colonization process. Pink Diamond decides to use her alter-ego to make a stand her fellow Diamonds could not ignore, originally intending to use Rose Quartz to scare other Gems away. The cut of Rose Quartz is thereby recognized as a threat and every Rose Quartz is removed from service, specifically Pink Diamond's entourage. While Pink was able to masquerade as both herself and Rose Quartz, the Diamonds did not keep track of their Pearls either and thus did not take Pearl into consideration. However, Spinels were not a typical race amongst the Gems and thus Spinel was seen as a great traitor to Homeworld. However, even when Pink Diamond tried one more time to persuade Yellow and Blue to end colonization on Earth Moon Base, using Rose Quartz as an excuse. The other Diamonds continue to ignore her pleas.
- Blue Diamond and members of her court arrived on Earth to oversee the removal of the uprisings. Sapphire is sent to Earth along with three Ruby guards at the request of Blue Diamond. When Rose, Pearl, and Spinel lead a direct attack on Blue Diamond's court, Ruby and Sapphire accidentally fuse into Garnet for the first time. She inadvertently serves as a distraction helping Rose, Pearl, and Spinel to escape. Blue Diamond tells Ruby she will be shattered for fusing with Sapphire and allowing the rebels to escape despite protecting her assigned higher Gem, and thus Sapphire flees with Ruby to Earth's surface. The three later run into Garnet where Rose tells her to never question who she is, recruiting her to the Crystal Gems. The Crystal Gems soon become a rebellion against Homeworld.
- After attempts to end the rebellion fail and many disagreements with Yellow and Blue, Pink Diamond, Pearl, and Spinel plan a ruse to stage Pink Diamond's shattering. Pearl, armed with Rose Quartz's sword and shapeshifted into Rose, poofs Pink Diamond, who had swallowed fake gem shards, thereby creating the illusion that Pink Diamond was shattered. From then on Pink Diamond permanently identifies herself as Rose Quartz and continues leading the Crystal Gems. Homeworld soon enters into Era 2.
- The Corrupting Light is initiated by the three remaining Diamonds, corrupting all Gems caught in it. Rose Quartz shields herself, Pearl, Garnet, and Spinel in her shield to protect them from the Corrupting Light.
- Earth is deemed non-viable as a colony by Homeworld, commencing experiments to create Cluster Gems using the gemstone shards of fallen Crystal Gems, and the Cluster is planted inside Earth's mantle as a last resort to make use of the planet.
- The Crystal Gems find Amethyst in the ruins of the Prime Kindergarten.
- Eventually, what's left of the Crystal Gems settles down, creating the Crystal Temple on a shore somewhere near a place called Beach City, where Rose falls in love with a human named Greg Universe. Rose Quartz later gives up her physical form to give birth to a human/Gem hybrid known as Steven Universe.
- A small fleet of Homeworld Gems, led by Jasper and Peridot, arrived on Earth. Jasper mistakes Steven as Rose Quartz and captures him and the other Gems. The Gem Warship is not to much later destroyed, Peridot launches an escape pod to an unspecified location on Earth, Jasper convinces Lapis to fuse with her as Malachite to defeat the Crystal Gems, and Lapis betrays Jasper, dragging them both to the bottom of the ocean. Malachite is later split back into Jasper and Lapis by Pink Moissanite(a fusion of Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, and Spinel) on Mask Island.
- Steven and Peridot travel to the Cluster and successfully contain the weapon.
- If the Cluster emerged, it would have inadvertently reawakened Unicron.
- Steven is captured by Aquamarine and Topaz and taken to Homeworld, where he stands trial in form of Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond for Rose Quartz's crimes against Homeworld. Steven later escapes thanks to his friend Lars and the Off-Colors.
- The truth of Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz being one in the same is revealed to the Crystal Gems. Yellow and Blue Diamond later arrive on Earth and invade Beach City. The Cluster is unleashed but fights alongside the Crystal Gems, who now have the added members of Lapis and Peridot, and the reunited member, Bismuth. In an out-of-body experience, Steven confesses to Blue and Yellow Diamond that his mom is Pink Diamond. Steven wakes up and everybody, including Blue and Yellow Diamond, becomes glad as they finally learn the truth about Pink Diamond.
- The three Diamonds decide that in order to permanently heal the Gems(which are revealed to be corrupted), they need White Diamond as well. The Diamonds and the Crystal Gems(excluding Bismuth) board Pink Diamond's old ship to travel to Homeworld. There, Gems cheer for the return of Pink Diamond and White Pearl takes Steven to White Diamond. White welcomes Steven back home and transports him to Pink Diamond's Palace.
- After a long confrontation, White Diamond realizes that even she has flaws and releases all the gems from her control, including Pink Pearl. Steven comforts White for her flaws and she learns that she no longer has to live in Prime Diamond's shadow. With that done, Steven and the Diamonds healed all the corrupted Gems using Rose's Fountain. A couple of years later, Steven helps demilitarize Homeworld's empire and the Diamonds instead work to preserve the life and culture of other worlds. One of their projects includes New Arburia. Little Homeworld is also constructed on Earth.
- Homeworld even adopted a parliamentary oligarchy.

While Pink was able to masquerade as both herself and Rose Quartz, the Diamonds did not keep track of their Pearls either and thus did not take Pearl into consideration. However, Spinels were not a typical race amongst the Gems and thus Spinel was seen as a great traitor to Homeworld. However, even when Pink Diamond tried one more time to persuade Yellow and Blue to end colonization on Earth Moon Base, using Rose Quartz as an excuse. The other Diamonds continue to ignore her pleas.
- Blue Diamond and members of her court arrived on Earth to oversee the removal of the uprisings. Sapphire is sent to Earth along with three Ruby guards at the request of Blue Diamond. When Rose, Pearl, and Spinel lead a direct attack on Blue Diamond's court, Ruby and Sapphire accidentally fuse into Garnet for the first time. She inadvertently serves as a distraction helping Rose, Pearl, and Spinel to escape. Blue Diamond tells Ruby she will be shattered for fusing with Sapphire and allowing the rebels to escape despite protecting her assigned higher Gem, and thus Sapphire flees with Ruby to Earth's surface. The three later run into Garnet where Rose tells her to never question who she is, recruiting her to the Crystal Gems. The Crystal Gems soon become a rebellion against Homeworld.
- After attempts to end the rebellion fail and many disagreements with Yellow and Blue, Pink Diamond, Pearl, and Spinel plan a ruse to stage Pink Diamond's shattering. Pearl, armed with Rose Quartz's sword and shapeshifted into Rose, poofs Pink Diamond, who had swallowed fake gem shards, thereby creating the illusion that Pink Diamond was shattered. From then on Pink Diamond permanently identifies herself as Rose Quartz and continues leading the Crystal Gems. Homeworld soon enters into Era 2.
- The Corrupting Light is initiated by the three remaining Diamonds, corrupting all Gems caught in it. Rose Quartz shields herself, Pearl, Garnet, and Spinel in her shield to protect them from the Corrupting Light.
- Earth is deemed non-viable as a colony by Homeworld, commencing experiments to create Cluster Gems using the gemstone shards of fallen Crystal Gems, and the Cluster is planted inside Earth's mantle as a last resort to make use of the planet.
- The Crystal Gems find Amethyst in the ruins of the Prime Kindergarten.
- Eventually, what's left of the Crystal Gems settles down, creating the Crystal Temple on a shore somewhere near a place called Beach City, where Rose falls in love with a human named Greg Universe. Rose Quartz later gives up her physical form to give birth to a human/Gem hybrid known as Steven Universe.
- A small fleet of Homeworld Gems, led by Jasper and Peridot, arrived on Earth. Jasper mistakes Steven as Rose Quartz and captures him and the other Gems. The Gem Warship is not to much later destroyed, Peridot launches an escape pod to an unspecified location on Earth, Jasper convinces Lapis to fuse with her as Malachite to defeat the Crystal Gems, and Lapis betrays Jasper, dragging them both to the bottom of the ocean. Malachite is later split back into Jasper and Lapis by Pink Moissanite(a fusion of Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, and Spinel) on Mask Island.
- Steven and Peridot travel to the Cluster and successfully contain the weapon.
- If the Cluster emerged, it would have inadvertently reawakened Unicron.
- Steven is captured by Aquamarine and Topaz and taken to Homeworld, where he stands trial in form of Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond for Rose Quartz's crimes against Homeworld. Steven later escapes thanks to his friend Lars and the Off-Colors.
- The truth of Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz being one in the same is revealed to the Crystal Gems. Yellow and Blue Diamond later arrive on Earth and invade Beach City. The Cluster is unleashed but fights alongside the Crystal Gems, who now have the added members of Lapis and Peridot, and the reunited member, Bismuth. In an out-of-body experience, Steven confesses to Blue and Yellow Diamond that his mom is Pink Diamond. Steven wakes up and everybody, including Blue and Yellow Diamond, becomes glad as they finally learn the truth about Pink Diamond.
- The three Diamonds decide that in order to permanently heal the Gems(which are revealed to be corrupted), they need White Diamond as well. The Diamonds and the Crystal Gems(excluding Bismuth) board Pink Diamond's old ship to travel to Homeworld. There, Gems cheer for the return of Pink Diamond and White Pearl takes Steven to White Diamond. White welcomes Steven back home and transports him to Pink Diamond's Palace.
- After a long confrontation, White Diamond realizes that even she has flaws and releases all the gems from her control, including Pink Pearl. Steven comforts White for her flaws and she learns that she no longer has to live in Prime Diamond's shadow. With that done, Steven and the Diamonds healed all the corrupted Gems using Rose's Fountain. A couple of years later, Steven helps demilitarize Homeworld's empire and the Diamonds instead work to preserve the life and culture of other worlds. One of their projects includes New Arburia. Little Homeworld is also constructed on Earth.
- Homeworld even adopted a parliamentary oligarchy.
