Description This is a remake of the comic strip that started it all, "Knock-Knock Spock"

I made a few changes;

McCoy's mischief is made more clear by his expressions.
Spock is less relaxed, more... Vulcan.
The computer called Spock "Commander" in this version. I thought it was more fitting for the situation.
The panel with McCoy's punchline was made separate in this version to give more emphasis on McCoy's malicious intent.
I had fun with Spock's expression here. Using traditional absurd cartoon elements, I made his eyes into water faucets.

LOL! Thank you. I had fun drawing McCoy like that. I kind of hate when people draw him "cute" or "kawaii" but this was fun.

I don't really get it other than it is illogical, It's a know knock joke but can you explain it a bit more?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to THEJ0KES0nBATSY [2010-08-08 22:05:32 +0000 UTC]

Well...
Spock is enjoying his very "logical" time with the computer. McCoy comes in to ruin it. He tells a joke where Spock is answering a door, but Spock is also knocking on the door. This, of course, makes no sense, and harshes Spock's mellow. Now I'm sure it could make sense if it were a Mirror Universe Spock knocking on the door, but this is just McCoy picking on Spock.

OwO;;
Why, that's one heck of a complement! Thank you very much!

Growing up, everyone told me to be an artist. I kind of fought against it, because I felt like they were controlling me. But uh... I could probably do a lot with this. I really like drawing cartoons. I don't think I could animate, but I love comics.

Lexenos In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-08 10:56:29 +0000 UTC]

Well, if anything, you could sell comics and such on the side while you're acting. Draw in your spare time. If you are an actor, stuff you sell would probably be more desirable, y'know, cause of the OMG THAT ACTOR DRAWS? I WANT IT factor.

enterprising-bones In reply to Lexenos [2010-08-08 11:07:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear. Well, as you can see, I spit out 3 comics in two days. For web comics, it's usually one a week... so I'd be able to hold up a comic pretty easily. But yeah, if I was both acting and drawing, my art would have a serious following.

Lexenos [2010-08-08 10:46:43 +0000 UTC]

LOL! If you made a book of cartoons like these, I would buy it.

enterprising-bones In reply to Lexenos [2010-08-08 10:48:55 +0000 UTC]

I wonder if that's even legal (with Star Trek, anyway). It would be so awesome to be handing these out at conventions. Obviously there'd be a cost to cover the expense of the prints but seriously, it would just be fun to share these.

I'm pretty sure if I started my own original characters and such I could make a decent comic. Buuuuuut fan art is my passion, LOL.

Lexenos In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-08 10:53:11 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, but I do know that a lot of people sell their own fancomics and stuff. (LOL, the first examples that come to mind are yaoi porn. xD)

My friend is also selling stuff at a few cons, doing a few originals and a lot of fan work. He's doing Link, that one Vocaloid chick, Pokemon phone charms, and some other stuff I don't recognize.

I dunno if Star Trek is special, though.

LOL! Well, see, Japanese manga is under different laws than American-owned characters. I would not want to get on Paramount's bad side. D; I have seen people sell Star Trek fan art, but I am not sure where the legal limitations lie. Some of the official novels started off as fanfictions.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lexenos In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-08 11:01:14 +0000 UTC]

No, Paramount would sue you so hard your grandkids' grandkids would still be paying it off. D; They're scary.

o3o I didn't know that about the official novels. That's a pretty cool tidbit.

I have no idea where you'd find the information on the legal limits, but I hope you find them so you can sell this stuff. It's comedic gold! xD (Can't wait to show my dad when he gets up.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to Lexenos [2010-08-08 11:04:23 +0000 UTC]

LOL. Paramount, you dirty biatch.

Yeah, some of them, anyway. I'm not sure how exactly a person gets their work to be "official," like some of the new official comic books. I don't know who they contract with or what.

I'm definitely going to see what my options are. I've seen a Star Trek web comic that is up for sale in print. I might ask the artist what he knows about the laws regarding this stuff. I don't want him to feel threatned by the question, though, haha.

I loooove that people are showing these to their friends. It makes me happy.

Lexenos In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-08 11:06:01 +0000 UTC]

LOL, am I a nerd that I'm showing these to my parents and not my friends? xD

But that reminds me, my sister is a total trekie, I need to show her.

LOL. Nah, it's alright.

HAHA!
I wish I knew Trekkies IRL. I actually only know people who "like" the show but aren't really hardcore fans like I am.

LOL. That was the first one (in this style). The TNG fans like the Picard reference, lol.

The Spock/Bones one is the first of these comics that I wrote, but the most recent one that I've drawn. I wrote that one at about 4:00 am one morning. I'd woken up from sleep, felt the immediate urge to draw the comic, which turned out like this: [link]
