Description Bones you damn racist.

Messy on purpose. It's a stupid stylistic choice, LOL.

In certain cases I enjoy seing him... When he's close to Bones for exemple XD
I can't figure out why I was more attracted in Spock than Bones the first time I saw the series. Maybe the mystery?

Oooh, sexy. ;D
Spock is smart, sexy, and talented.
Bones is grumpy, old, emaciated and gets lucky.

...
This is why I love Bones.

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 08:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I think I like him for the same reasons : he's human. Spock is too overkill as a character. Not enough flaws to be really interesting. But he's cool.

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-02 08:51:10 +0000 UTC]

Ha.
Spock has ISSUES. I love it because it's not obvious. He does have a very human side, and he fights it. That struggle makes Spock very human, and it drives McCoy nuts that Spock tries to hide it.

I'd have to say I probably like McCoy a lot because I just think DeForest Kelley was an incredible person. He rubs off on McCoy, who was VERRRRRRY different from Kelley in most respects, but managed to carry his uh... "vibe."

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 08:58:23 +0000 UTC]

Spock is the cutest when his human side leaks out. When his weakness is finally revealed.

DeForest Kelley was very different? How so? I'm afraid I don't know much about him...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-02 19:54:03 +0000 UTC]

Hah. I love it when Kirk and McCoy corner Spock and Spock can't help but crack under the pressure and do something very human.

Oh dear... McCoy and Kelley are like night and day in many respects. McCoy's got that temper, and Kelley was so peaceful. Kelley was emotional, yes, but I didn't handle it with rage. And McCoy's past was really messed up... Kelley's life was quite average, and then quite content. McCoy's biggest struggles are guilt and vulnerability, Kelley's were anxiety and fatigue. Of course they had things in common, but a lot was very different, too.

I feel creepy butting in, but Kelley's life was anything but average - but it had a happy ending which is nice.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to CaTigeReptile [2010-08-18 23:35:05 +0000 UTC]

Hmmmm. Well, De described his own childhood as average. And his life after that was bliss that he created. But he was not raised in some bizarre environment, he was not exposed to tragedy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaTigeReptile In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-18 23:41:30 +0000 UTC]

Well, I mean compared to the McCoy character obviously his life was free of tragedy. And of course he would have described his own childhood as average.

I'd still say that his formative years were quite interesting, but I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to CaTigeReptile [2010-08-19 00:01:21 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean of course? I've read about his childhood... and it WAS very average. He was a choir boy in the church, he couldn't get a date in high school and was kind of a loner like most teenagers, he had the same stupid fights with his parents every kid does... Srsly. Oh and he was silly looking just like most teenagers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaTigeReptile In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-19 00:03:09 +0000 UTC]

Growing up in the south during the depression, from what I've heard, was quite interesting!

He was a whole lot less silly looking than a lot of teenagers though

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

enterprising-bones In reply to CaTigeReptile [2010-08-19 00:08:21 +0000 UTC]

Well he actually moved to CA during the depression. Which was a crazy move on his part but it all worked out. I mean, yes, living in that time period was significant, but I am saying his life was not (and this is according to his testimony) all that different from other people in his time period, his peers. Now James Doohan? That man has some wacky stories to tell.

True. But I do appreciate that he was... well, he's so very human.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaTigeReptile In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-19 00:12:44 +0000 UTC]

James Doohan was like a fictional war story hero character played by a Bruce Willis-type. Except real.

Argh, I meant to press preview instead of reply.

Nah, I see what you mean. Maybe past-high school doesn't count as formative years.

However, it seems that you're much more of an expert than I am on this subject.

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 20:13:07 +0000 UTC]

Something I like a lot about Spock is that despite his huge IQ he still fails to understand some of the human reactions and behaviour. And for McCoy I love the way he's grumpy and complaining and talking to himself XD

It's a nice coomparison you've been doing. You certainly did a lot of research about it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-02 20:16:08 +0000 UTC]

YESSS. I love that. It's amusing.
McCoy's personality is a lot like mine in that respect. My friends are kind enough to point that out.

I still need to read Kelley's biographiessss. I'll know a lot more of the specifics after that, haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 20:25:35 +0000 UTC]

I always think it's sort of illogical that Spock does not understand something human, having had a human mother. Maybe he just pretends he doesn't get it, it's part of his mask...

You must be a nice person to hang around then

I never read a biography. I always thought it should be a bt boring. But DeForest's would probably be very interesting. I read he was once in the army during WWII. I've always wondered how this affected his further life.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-02 21:07:15 +0000 UTC]

I think Spock refuses to understand it. He wants to be Vulcan, and to have that want is human.

Ha! I can be. And I can also be quite scary.

I've read some... I want to read Nimoy's autobiographies, too. Kelley didn't write his bios (I kinda wish he did, but they were written after he died), but I still consider them valuable source of information. Kelley was drafted into the army... on my birthday. LOL. <3 Well, exactly 47 years before my birthday. Ewww, he was so old. He wasn't ever really a soldier or anything, LUCKY HIM. Doohan, on the other hand, WAS a soldier, and lost his middle finger on his right hand.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 22:04:18 +0000 UTC]

Again, refusing to understand wouldn't be so logical. And his desire to belong to Vulcan is really unique and sort of human too. Real Vulcans don't have this problem.

Nah, you're so young XD

I'm not too fond of the concept of an autobiography. But it's good to have data on his life. Sure we're lucky (and he was too) not to suffer from the war. I had heard about Doohan's finger! crazy how he hid it and how he even had doubles...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-02 22:08:22 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Though... real Vulcans are really Vulcan, so they don't have that struggle.

But I act like an old fart.

I like autobios! It comes straight from the heart of the person writing it! That's why I'm so excited about Nimoy's books. And everything Kelley wrote just makes me get all warm and mooshy (lol). It would have been nice if he wrote an autobio...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-02 22:28:39 +0000 UTC]

I wonder how it will be then in a few decades

Well it would sure be nice to read something written by Kelley. I think I'd be mushy also XD

Hey, nowadays is there still a need for autobiographies? With facebook and tweeter? Oh well I guess books will always have a place of choice anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-05 08:02:57 +0000 UTC]

LOL. I'll act like... wow, I donno. Scotty old? LOL!

His writing is lovely. I get stupid butterflies when I read it.

Well, I donno. Most people aren't tweeting their life stories from when they were teenagers. Unless they are teenager. And even then, Twitter is like, a short journal. Facebook too. It's not quite the same as the introspection put into an autobio.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-05 09:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Old Scotty? You intend to become too fat for your clothes? XD

Awww Kelley has a nice handwritting indeed. I guess it makes another difference with McCoy? MDs write so so bad that I wonder how pharmacists can even read them. I totally imagine it'd be the same in ST

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enterprising-bones In reply to AsterMoody [2010-08-05 09:27:05 +0000 UTC]

No no. I'm a skinny bitch like Bones.

His handwriting was pretty, and his words hit me deep. McCoy... I've never seen McCoy write. But Kelley tends to keep his handwriting the same for every character.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-05 09:54:30 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not like they need to write a lot in ST's future. Fortunatelly for them they have computers and so on.

I've been a nail biter for like... 16 years. I'm quitting... and he's a good motivator. If I feel like biting my nails, I go look at his pretty nails. LOL!

AsterMoody In reply to enterprising-bones [2010-08-06 00:23:59 +0000 UTC]

Hahahaha XD Have you tried these nailpolish that just taste horrible? XD
I have a friend who managed to stop by having fake nails added, but I wouldn't recommend it to you. Mainly because her real nails are long, but thin and screwed up now XD
Well I never bit my nails (I bit my lips instead) but they recently became so bad with the stress, they are peeling off and I can't keep them long, it's as bad as if I was biting them
