Description
Silicon Synths are an attempt during the biological arms race to try and synthesize a living, non-carbon based intelligent creature; this creature would be built from the ground up with no prior genetic structure to work off of, complete manipulation of the organism from the foundation upwards.Though working with silicon comes with its own tribulations; for a stable silicon-based, single-celled lifeforms to adequately exist, they would have to live in areas of extremely high temperature, not just tropical environments, but around volcanic bodies and magma. This was a hurdle that was overcome by prosthesis being introduced to the beings: super-heated cores fueled by nuclear slugs (thorium), which would act as an auxiliary stamina resource in times of need.
They made the first line of synths which were microbiota, multiple single-celled organisms working in tandem as a from of biological community; little did the synths have to eat, due to them being made with photosynthetic abilities, allowing them to alternate between regular food and sunlight.
Due to their nature they often took multiple shapes which suited various environments they were employed in. Though at this point they were little more than animals. Each cell of the "body" would vibrate and communicate to its neighboring cells, which carried the message throughout the body. Though due to this, the communication often got warped and muddled as it was transported. Often the synths could grow into unstable sizes without the need to maintain a metabolism due to its photosynthetic abilities, these ones often broke off into multiple different organisms in order to shed excess weight (which died upon being shed). What's more, is that these dire synths didn't react to pain stimulus due to the way the single-celled organisms of their body communicated. Often these creatures were stationary due to the same reason.
The second artificial line was heavily altered with the use of cybernetics and other prosthesis. These prosthesis were fueled by the nuclear core and were introduce to regulate the energy generated; though unfounded, for there was no documented occurrence of such activity, it was hypothesized that if the first line didn't adequately use the nuclear energy produced by their core that they could suffer meltdowns, and though there was protection against such events, this was too much of a risk to take and that resulted in the second line: heavily augmented to the point where biology was far too heavily interweaved with technology to be differentiated. This line was humanoid in structure, though it was still a microbiota organism. Due to the way the cells within the organism communicated, it was easy to figure out a pattern of communication; this allowed their creators to synthesize an artificial intelligence which could communicate with the cells and better their capabilities. The humanoid form was created due to the AI being programmed to structure the cells in such a way, though there are more specialized synths which don't adhere to this, and instead use forms that are theoretically more efficient, such as forms resembling cephalopods.
The first line was discontinued only briefly until it was confirmed that they had no problems with their body's interaction with the new nuclear cores.
Silicon Synths can naturally reproduce through mitosis, but due to their reliance on the nuclear cores to regulate the heat in their system, the offspring they do create always dies quickly, due to their cellular structure becoming unstable.
