Description Yay another tutorial! I needed a break from my up-and-coming surprise, and after receiving a good few requests as to how I do lineart, I did this for all those curious folk! I do hope it helps, my Photoshop likes to do wierd things with my pictures when I make them smaller and bigger! But anyways! Let me know if it's really bad quality-wise and I'll go and fix them pictures!

Download for beeeeg size!

I know this probably sounds stupid, but maybe your brush isn't a hard edge brush. When you click on brush (in photoshop) Up on the left top part of the screen it will have the preview of what the brush stroke will look like. Click on the arrown which will bring a drop down menu of brushes. Click on a brush where the circle has a hard egde rather than fuzzy. There you go.

Hope my rambling helped

YAY! I've been waiting for a lineart tutorial where you dont need a pen too for ages! (my pen tool doesent work very well) this may be tricky without a tablet, but I can try.

Yay! Now I know how you did my lines. And finally someone who has the same photoshop as I do! Hahah. Now all I need is a tablet. I'll definitely have to use this method for my stuff later.

Equinus In reply to tabbyheart [2008-08-30 06:41:31 +0000 UTC]

Hehe yeh, now you know! Well I hope you get a tablet soon! They're the next best thing since sliced bread and coffee...

tabbyheart In reply to Equinus [2008-08-30 07:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, coffee and sliced bread, some butter...Yumm... I'm gonna be bugging the heck out of my parents about a tablet for my birthday or Christmas. Out of curiosity, what tablet would you recommend?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to tabbyheart [2008-08-30 07:56:37 +0000 UTC]

hehe yeh good idea! Hmm.... I suppose it depends on what you can find, I know Wacoms are the most amazing, but I have a Genius 8x6, and its really very good and reliable! I don't know of any other brands really, but all I know its that Genius tablets are very good! If you can find one, try get it!

What program are you using?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to RogueTabby [2008-08-30 06:42:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm using Photoshop Elements 6.0, but any version of Photoshop will work, an probably Coral Painter too!

RogueTabby In reply to Equinus [2008-08-30 15:33:10 +0000 UTC]

What is Photoshop Elements?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to RogueTabby [2008-08-30 18:05:53 +0000 UTC]

Adobe Photoshop Elements? You don't know it? Goodness! It's an illustrating program, like a very fancy version of Paint, and it's similar to Corel Painte...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RogueTabby In reply to Equinus [2008-08-30 20:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Can you do more in it then you can in Photoshop CS3? That's what I've been using for all my work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to RogueTabby [2008-08-31 06:20:01 +0000 UTC]

Of course you may! Any illustrating program will work that uses layers!

RogueTabby In reply to Equinus [2008-08-31 13:14:37 +0000 UTC]

I've also been wondering, with lineart, how do you know where to put the shadows on the horse?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to RogueTabby [2008-08-31 17:23:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, it all depends on where the light is cus it affects the shadows and where they fall, and also the muscles of the horse stand up a bit, so there are a few shadows there. I've always learnt from looking at photos of horses, its the best way!

Very helpful but ,may I ask, what brush size do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Equinus In reply to Dreamer-Of-Ravens [2008-08-30 06:43:41 +0000 UTC]

Haha oh goodness, I totally forgot to add that in! For the sketches, ususally 8 to 10px, and then for the actual lineart I use 2px brush! Hope that helps!
