Cinema 4D and a q6600 @ 3.ghz + 4GB Ram, nothing special

about 1 hour and some minutes - and well.. i gave up on texturing it (see colorized EX submission and the discussion there) there is just no way to unwrap this, partly because it is such a bad/dirty method of detailing (lots of copying and then some point editing, which breaks the UV maps)

It seems that you need to hire some Super Llamas for these things to come, but side note - a DD is way overhyped.. its just filling up my message list and no way to catch up or spot important comments.
And this brought my commissions out of order as well

It´s a really nice cruiser, but 2.7 millions isn´t that too much??
Maybe with textures and the normal,displacemente, etc etc maps you could reach the same quality without using too many pieces.

Tis not only too much its way too much But the guns are very detailed (each one 200k polygons) so thats one reason of course, one can't see that but i didn't feel like redoing them. Is not like polycount or rendertime matters in still images

It depends on what are you going to use it and the time you have available. I mean if it´s just for fun or have enough time, it´s ok, but if you have to deliver it in a very short time, or you have some limits, for example for modeling tournaments; the less the better.
Now as an advice, if a part is not going to be seen close enough, dont do it, I saw the guns and are really great, but the image is too small , so the poly that you used there are useless, a good texture could do the trick.

But a good texture i have yet to make takes much longer than a overdetailed gun i already have made for something else Only few things on this ship i made from scratch

If you used models you´ve already had, it´s ok, and for some pieces you have to do it once, because the ploygons can share the texture if their maps are the same.
I know texturing and doing the texture is a lot of work, but it also a good texture gives another sense to the model itself.

Yes ;( I know that only too well, which is why i don't like this rendering at all Since i do many things i have a lot of textures but spaceships ain't one of these things. I still have not found a good spaceship texture which i could use as base, or a method to make one that works and looks great for big/huge ships.

Wow sieht klasse aus. Habe mich selbst mal an einem Schiff probiert, wurde aber bei weitem nicht so wundervoll detailiert wie deines. naja jetzt habe ich wohl eine neue quelle für inspirationen. Wirklich klasse!

Ja.. aber wenn du mich als Inspiration nimmst dann mach nicht den gleichen Fehler wie ich
Die Details müssten geändert werden um Primäre und Sekundäre Formen besser zu zeigen.. im moment is das alles ein gemisch und das is eher schlechtes Design.

Ja naja, ich werde es wohl hauptsächlich als ideenquelle nutzen, wie details aussehen könnten. ich denke jetzt erstmal über eine interessantre grundform nach. es ist schwer für mich details "auszudenken", dazu bräuchte ich eine zeichnung oder wie in diesem fall ein anderes render. Und da ich irsinnig mies im zeichnen bin, bin ich auf andere kreative leute angewiesen ^^ aber ich werd versuchen an deinen rat zu denken wenn ich dann irgendwann bei den details ankomme ... ^^

Das geht mir ja nicht anders, meistens schau ich auf Skizzen oder Concept art, von Waffen/Gebäuden/Schiffen oder sowas in der Richtung um an neue Ideen für die Details zu kommen, oder aber ein Spiel wie zb. Dead Space oder Mass Effect eignet sich auch gut
