Okay..... So why did he freak out HERE all of a sudden? He saw the closet full of badniks in issue 12 and seemed like he was suspicious of the room, but he didn't completely lose it or have trauma like he did here. Is there a reason for that? Was he just distracted by Rouge's message, or was he not in the mindset to suffer at the moment, or was it the fact that they were shut down vs up and running here? So many questions.....

Yeah, it's the difference in the robots' state: there's a big difference between seeing dusty, broken old badniks lying around and being surprised by a squad of brand-new active ones in the process of capturing innocents and taking one of your magic rocks.
Sonic's undoubtedly encountered SOME badniks at home in the last 200 years, but they would have been rusted-out husks. That he can handle. But new working ones imply someone is making them, and in his experience 9 times out of 10 that person has been Eggman. There's also the unfortunate fact Sonic in issue 17 is more emotionally unstable after his trauma at Antique's hand.
(Excuses aside this is a case where it would be nice to go back in time and have GOTF sonic go apeshit on a badnik in the vault, only to discover it was already very dead. That would have been a good setup)

Ah! See I was confused as to why he has been acting different since 15! Now it makes sense with the whole Antique incident! And, of course, the live vs dead thing makes complete sense too. That's excellent writing on your part, Evan.
And I would LOVE to see an off panel about this! 😂 I'm sure would have some VERY interesting things to say on that deviation lol.

I guess when you think about it that way, Sonic hasn't really fought in the series or, if he has, he has lost control. Take issues 5 (still lost control with the flame), 9, 10, 11, 13, and now 17 for instance.

They were not there before-- I just started adding them. My new boss on the official Sonic books asked me to start putting disclaimers on GOTF so newcomers wouldn't confuse it for something canon. Probably gonna have a little fun with 'em!
