Description
PREVIOUS "ALEX IS A PIRATE" PAGES: eviltomp.deviantart.com/galler…Hello! Welcome back! I enjoyed my break; how about you?
I changed something in the making of this comic... maybe you'll notice it?
...
OK, what I did differently was I worked out a way to scale my comic up by a lot. Normally I draw on 8.5"x14" sheets of paper, with the ultimate intention for it to be printed on 5.5"x8.5" paper (perfect mini-comic form!). This is mostly because the scanners I have to work with are either Legal or Letter sized, so I figured that was as big as I could draw it. However, it recently dawned on me that I could work at 11"x17" scales... albeit split up over several 11"x8.5" sized pieces of paper. Since I usually stick with my 2x3 frame format, it's easy to print two framed sheets scaled for 11"x17" onto a sheet of 8.5"x11" piece of paper, then draw a single comic page on three of those sheets. Now while I'd RATHER have an 11"x17" scanner... until I can buy one, this'll do nicely.
TL;DR: I figured out a way to draw at larger, 11"x17" scales using Letter-sized paper and scanners. Hopefully this'll help the quality of my end product a bit.

Perhaps Alex should lose the pirate coat and grow a few sizes (if you know what I mean )

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to work on expressing more emotion... or at least create new situations to invoke unique emotions.

There's torturing your characters... then there's " torturing " your characters.

I'm gonna send everyone through the wringer, but not because I hate them. Instead, I want to see how they'll tackle their situations.

I love how near-accurate the ship is! And poor Alex.

It helps to use references, instead of just making it up willy-nilly.

Exactly. Even though you may not be 100% percent accuracy at least you tried your best by using the reference at hand.
Also, you can submit your work (all your comics) in the fanclub. Plus take a look into the other galleries. I may write a blog about them later. And check out the faves!

It does improve the line-quality.
Although the bigger thing I noticed was that each panel looks totally different which is a great improvement of your composition!

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to be more conscious of it... but sometimes (like with Comic #7), I need to reuse frame composition. I think the method to my system is that, the closer in time two frames are, the similar their composition they will be.
One other thing I'm trying to do is throw in as much detail as I feel is necessary (and then some).
