Description Someone doesn't want to sell you any goods, I'd back off before he decides to use that cleaver on you.

Seems like eating on the job is a bit...unsanitary. Anyway, I want to work on a project that involves humans too, so I plopped them into this world. I have to admit drawing all the blood was sort of fun.

edit:
sorta looks like Povorot's covered market, sorry about that dude, wasn't intentional.

It's actually something that's more the shape of a cat, what you're seeing on it's sides are ribs, not little face grabby fingers haha.

I'm curious: are any of your species at the level of interstellar/FTL space travel? Your alien societies seem similar to mine: fairly technologically advanced, but they really prefer traditional technology and more rustic/traditional looks. My Zarks, for example, do have interstellar travel and are major members of the pan-galactic community, but many Zarks will take a sandsnake caravan over a levcar any day.

I like to play with post apocalyptic societies, so a lot of the aliens I have were advanced at one point but have been forced into a more primitive lifestyle where any technology is salvaged. I do this mostly because of two reasons, one is that I really am fascinated with how societies and cultures change in times of crisis and afterwords, two because I really like primitive cultures in general and highly advanced things are harder for me to be as accurate with.

WorldBuildersInc In reply to exo-bio [2014-12-06 15:29:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah same for me with the primitive cultures. And I don't really do postapocalyptia mainly because I'm an optimist ;D The skae are sort of a step away from that. Their civilization (and actually their entire homeworld) was NEARLY destroyed by a pan-global nuclear/nonnuclear war. Thankfully a truce was called by the wiser members of the (remaining) society and the world was saved. The skae also became a lot more environmentally conscious, using sustainable energy sources and etc. Most of them reverted back to more traditional technology, but kept bits of advanced tech, making their everyday technology a fascinating combination of modern and traditional/rustic. So their tech is styled the same way as yours, but for slightly different reasons.

This popped up in my favorites so I took a look at it again, and I'm curious: is the thing hanging next to what I assume are three legs one of the flying things or a close relative of the creature in this picture ? It's a bit hard to tell considering most of it is missing from this picture, but they do like sort of similar.

Honestly when I drew it it was juts a nondescript leg, so I don't really have an answer for you other than "sure why not!" haha

Hmm.. you know how we have flies. Maybe this planet has it's own unique set insect like creature that took advantage of the early planet. Or maybe there is a species that release younlings in spore that attach to dead organic matter where they grow into a sea lily like shape and come out as a slightly smaller version of the adult.

Well what I've pictured so far has been pretty arid, but I've been gazing forlornly at pictures of the American Southwest lately filled with wanderlust, so it's been leaking into my artwork. There are plenty of other biomes, I just haven't pictured them yet.

Zerraspace [2013-03-08 19:32:39 +0000 UTC]

It's just as well that Zarnala headed me off; I was about to repeat the obvious comment. I can't seem to correlate it with any of your other works, and you mention that you want to work on a project involving humans; is this for a new independent world, or part a formerly established one?

The slightly faded colors are a bit of a departure from your generally brighter mixtures, but as I see it they blend well together, though I couldn't put a name to the style; it gives a feel of distance and antiquity. Somehow, it also inspires a very Asian feel; dare I say I'm reminded of Avatar: the Last Airbender?

I don't see why the butcher is grumbling (if his expression is anything to go by, though his language almost seems elegant); I somehow doubt the human would be able to eat native meat anyway. Even if he could, the mask suggests he'd be in for a short meal once he breathed the native atmosphere, unless he thought to liquify the flesh (which would probably help in getting the grotesque flesh down ). I'm a little surprised at his lack of equipment, particularly in this environment; I'm guessing he's a sort of rogue or independent youth to try wandering alone with so little apparent backing?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

exo-bio In reply to Zerraspace [2013-03-09 04:21:29 +0000 UTC]

I get the urge to draw something less bright and colorful every once in a while, I need to break out of my normal drawing habits now and again.

I have always wanted to do a project with humans involved, though I had never found an alien design I liked enough to go forward with it (this design is still being tweaked too). And this is a new project in pretty much every other way. I wanted to do something a little grittier than the happy looking bright colored Gapuri.

Perhaps the human is looking to sell livestock for slaughter to the butcher and he wants non of it, not sure.

The reason for the mask is due to high carbon monoxide levels in the air. I am still tampering with the ideas of different bloodtypes that would allow them the breath oxygen while not being poisoned by the CO. Coboglobin (cobalt based) looks promising.

still doesn't look like Povorot's work. (faint similarities, sure...but by that logic, it also looks like both of you are the same as Albiogesis(sp).)

exo-bio In reply to Rodlox [2013-03-05 20:40:40 +0000 UTC]

Nah, the main similarity in the piece was not the alien, but the set up of the picture and the lighting and color scheme I used.
