Description
WARNING: big size is big.Alright, so after someone much smarter than myself pointed out to me that, as long as I have a digital camera, I don't necessarily need a scanner, I figured I should start posting some of the stuff I've been up since I started attending University. You will have to excuse the quality though.
Anyway, this is just some life drawing from class. I wish we did it far more often than just Mondays, but, we don't. Anyway, I really can't remember how long each of these took. They vary in size, the two on the top being roughly A2, the three on the bottom roughly A3. Done with a mechanical pencil and HB lead.
Let me know your thoughts!

My university has Drawing Classes as well, but I also look at other artists' works on life drawing and study their marks (difference in line quality, soft & light, dark & bold). I would take notice on how an artist would render the edges, because it's quite important to have reflective light in a drawing to give it form.

If there are no schools or other establishments that offer life drawing classes anywhere near you, I'd recommend getting a book, or using the internet as a well of resources.

It was just a life drawing course. Part of my Art and Design Foundation course at University.
Thanks for the comments!

I dunno if someone have already told you, but the size of the head respect the neck, I know it doesn t have head, but anyway, the head is bigger than neck and it is bad looked even for a scrap, not much to say, the rest is very very beautiful, and well, yes, some muscles and traits are too much exaggerated, nothing more I thing... good job yes, it s nice.

I need to do life drawing for my portfolio, but I'm in high school, so we can't get naked models in class. *Sigh* I love the detail in the bottom right one: the veins are very nicely done.

Well have you looked into taking life drawing classes outside of school? I don't know how it is with the age restriction where you live, but it's not like you're watching a stripper or something...
if worst comes to worst then use photos, you can get those on the net in abundance. But if you're trying to set up a portfolio then it's pretty much essential you do some real life drawing, seeing how there's not really a substitute for that.
Thanks for the comment!

Well, my art teacher gave us information about this Life Drawing thing every wednesday, but I never have time on Wednesdays to go. But, yeah; there is no substitute for real life drawing. Photos lose so much detail and color.

well, I personally think digital cameras sometimes give drawings and paintings a strange, disorted look, specially around edges and corners... that problem is non existent in scanners - and there are a lot of nifty options on most scanners and software to enhance the colors, hue and contrast. But keep uploading pics these way! they actually look great with the digital camera effect. Besides I'm a nut for crosshatch (sp?) shading - Albrecht DΓΌrer and Gustave DorΓ© have nothing on you!!

You are becoming quite the beast.
My advice though would be to get a grasp of the full figure before going into rendering (which is beautiful here). I don't know how much time you had to do these, from the rendering, I'd say at least 15 good minutes, maybe the double or triple.
You obviously already have a more than decent understanding of light and rendering, try venturing into areas you don't master that well. like apparently the full figure, proportions.
A good technique I find is to concentrate on the forces/tensions that go through the body first, which already gives us almost the structure we can later build on. And render on.
Also, dont be afraid to loosen up and go more sketchy at first, it will help you get pretty quickly the full meaning idea behind the pose. Then your more^precise strokes will make those first sketchy ones fade away...
Hope this was helpful.
And it's very impressive and inspiring to watch you grow a little more each day.
Man.

Great work man. I like the cross hatching with mech pencil, very effective, great tonal value.
I've just started life drawing myself and would appreciate an honest crit of my work if you have the time.

We've done some drawings with ink as well. Except we used pieces of cardboard instead of brushes, which was definitely pretty interesting. I actually rather enjoyed doing it, experimenting with different mediums is key to success.
I gotta say though, I do prefer the pencil, haha.

Very nice job on all of them, although I prefer the first two because of the great mixture between subtle shading and rough cross hatching. Great job!

lolfreaking fosters comment made me laff. but yeah, nice hatching man the body great stuff, over-rall pretty impressive, only i would say is, make sure to block out the form fully, before hatching, cause i feel like the musculature seems a bit wonky in areas, but other than that monk, this is great.keep up the magic,

Yeah, I tend to get lost on detail and shading before anything else, it's one of the many things I have to work on.

It looks good. The arms look a bit blocky and too big for the rest of the body though. And while I support squaring off the shoulders, they look a bit too broad if you get what I'm saying. I really dig the shading though. O_O

FabianMonk In reply to brokenALCHEMY [2007-10-23 11:05:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah it's possibly that I overdid it somewhat in the first, but I can assure you that the model for all the other pieces is pretty much like that. He's like a 60 year old, relatively small man on steroids or something, haha, seriously he's ripped.

brokenALCHEMY In reply to FabianMonk [2007-10-25 03:22:15 +0000 UTC]
Haha. That could be why it looked somewhat unrealistic. Don't get me wrong, the way it's done is beyond my grasp of artistic talent, but- now I don't know how to finish this sentence.
Anyways, yeah, very nice.
