Description I was going to upload this one the other day, but DA decided to be whiney.

For some reason I took this shot, and decided to keep it. Maybe it's the old wood trestle that made me do it. Here, UP SD90MAC #8209 rolls over what has been here for decades. The remnants of the original trestle (built in the late 1870s) are still visible, and it stands to reason that the existing one isn't much younger than the first one.

i bet there are some epic carvings in those wooden bases.

Not likely, since these are out in the middle of the boonies, and I doubt many people even pay attention to them. But it's possible...might be something to look at next time I'm back up there.

i'd figure it worthwhile. old railyards, especially ones with wooden structures are always good for cool carvings. mostly tramp carvings from the depression.

It's pretty scary to see trains running over anything wooden these days. Concrete sleepers are the future! Anyway, I like the juxtaposition of a gimpy wooden bridge and the largest diesel locomotive in regular service crossing it at track speed.

I've heard them as "Mac 90" before, but I like the term "Big Mac 90."

Those wooden trestles are all over the place out here. They're not nearly as old as some would think (the original one that existed here in the 1870's is now gone, but some of the original stumps are still there), and this one's only been around since the late 40's.

But it's still nice to see a BigMac '90 running across it.

I get nervous to see a modern train going over a trussel supported by wooden supports.

Ditto. BUt these timbers are easily over a foot in diameter.

Thanks. I took it on a whim, and couldn't not use it, so I did.
