Leaving in hushed step with her grim treasure, Elina feels the habits of the past reaching up from deep within. Before she can stop herself, she is repeating the gesture from her youth when an hours-long observation of courtly dealings ended with the girl being ushered gently from the hall. Her feet nearing the exit, always the young girl would turn and catch the eye of her uncle, particularly in the years following Avora's tragedy. And always, no matter the issues at hand, her uncle's gaze would briefly flit in her direction and he would acknowledge her with a simple, reassuring nod, a salute of encouragement for the future that lay before her.
The stiffened inclining of the gray, shriveled head in answer is utterly disturbing, but unmistakeable, and turning once more, Elina hurries from the dark chamber, her steps illuminated by her runemote guide.

The reference for Elina was provided, as always, by Feathered-pics . With this image, I need to point out how wonderful Emily's hair is to draw. I won't rave too much, but I could.
Enjoy!
Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Anjerome:" And don´t run out and make a pirate copy of my secret magical mystery book. I´ll watch you young lady !"
Elina:,"Ohhh, uncle, i am no way into dodgy dealings ..."
Anjerome:," Shut up, last time you stole my diary and posted it word for word on your facebook account !"

You really have the most incredible talent for drawing realistic, emotive facial expressions. The sunken eyes of Anjerome still have enough expressive power to betray worry, and perhaps even sadness, without appearing unrealistically mobile for a desiccated corpse. You, sir, are a god among illustrators.

It seems that there is still a bit of her uncle in there. Well done!!

There's doom in the air tonight...
Bravo! This one really ratchets up the foreboding and tension up another notch. Zom-Jer's nod of encouragement is a really nice touch, especially given what her future likely holds. Elina's really being beautifully set up for a long fall here and it seems like the net is finally starting to close in around her.
For some reason whenever considering Elina's actions in this chapter I'm always reminded of the quote "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

I second Erick's comments. A subtle, sublime, and quite powerful moment. You have to wonder if whatever remains of Anjerome within that withered, decaying husk is still somehow offering her her that salute of encouragement, or is it only a twisted shadow of that former gesture, deformed into something dark and hideous.....
This is magnificent stuff, a perfect marriage of image and text. I know you believe that others may do a better job of the narrative that you can, but, based on the evidence of this page alone, I feel that they're really going to have to strive their hardest to accomplish that. Once again, very well done!

"Try and bring this one back without gremlin-brains on it, will you?"
That clicking noise we all just heard was the sound of a trap being baited and set. And now we wait...

Really poignant image I think. Could be I'm reading into it too much but the look back, their eyes seeming to meet, it's enough to convince me that A.V. is in fact not intentionally harming his niece, but the image also has the feel of a turning point for some reason ... admittedly this could well be due to the fact I'm expecting just such a thing, but still I like everything about the drawing - you manage to capture a lot here without really showing anyone's eyes, which is of course your usual strength and what sets your stuff apart. Even without that though, this one says a lot. I get a strong vibe of 'he's never going to see her again' though exactly what that means and how it comes to pass remains to be seen ... as well as whether I'm even right!

To paraphrase a rather fun movie, "She should trust any book, but not the devil inside them..."

Hah. I was wondering if the book was chosen for malevolent purposes, or if she'd just not be quite wary or warned enough about whatever protective measures that book might have against those not intended to read its pages...

Very cool - for once I'm not silent urge the story to hurry up and get the heroine bound and naked... well, not much anyway.

Well, that's cool--thanks for the compliment! We've got a couple bound/naked heroine images on the way, but once the penny drops, as it were, it's rolling around on the floor for good this time around...
