“I tell you,” the innkeeper continues, “if Annalae had not intervened, this little enterprise would likely be over.”

“Do tell, Master Fiskerne.”

“Well, the Liaison was leveling questions at me that I couldn’t answer, when Anna swept in and interrupted us. At first, Lord Ordiel was obviously furious at the imposition. But the woman has her ways, and the Liaison was rather quickly… distracted.”

“She has her ways indeed. But I wasn’t aware that she was all that supportive of our purposes here.”

Fiskerne shakes his head. “She’s not, but Cal is, and the two of them seem to get on well enough.”
The other voice pauses before agreeing. “Yes, they do at that. And the Liaison? I assume he was rather taken with the barmaid?”
