Windows 8... is just... REALLY REALLY bad.
The only positive it gives you is a headache.
It's full of glitches and bugs, the desktop app is ugly as f*ck and they changed every single good aspect of windows. If windows keep doing it this way, by the time there is a Windows 10 I will be using Ubuntu.

well, i fucking love metro UI, but what i make i dont like windows 8 is:
- there is almost no improvement on the desktop UI
- they separate the desktop and metro ui
- i actually dont need start button and old start menu, but n00b windows user will very need it

Hate it or not, I think this bold move will help Microsoft push technology. Vista was released a bit too soon. People computer could not work with Vista due to hardware problems, thus, creating many vista haters. Windows 8 once again pushes technology, but also design as well. Faster, simpler. Whether this fails or not, it certainly will once again push technology further.

Yes am so agree with you.. I think this OS will have a same fate like vista.. maybe windows 9 would be better than this.. like the past vista run so heavy and many people complaint boud it, then it just take a few years microsoft suddenly launched w7 into the market.. people love it.. dont worry guys just wait for w9.. Be patient dude.. (sorry bad english am from indonesia)

It is marketing game play by microsoft, start from Vista, it is a crap, everybody knew it, follow by window 7, perhaps, window 8 will face the same fate as Vista, then microsoft coming up with a new os for an instance may be Window 9 or else. Then, trend is really simple, when u feel vista bad, sudden come a better window 7, sure everybody will migrate to it. So, if window 8 fail (as same fate as vista), sure ppl will prefer future window than window 8. Which mean that, microsoft playing the fool on the user or their 'precious' consumer/customer.
One think I really cant cope with window 8 UI, the start menu, if u have a lot app, then eventually the tile will be many. So, think about u ARE DRAGGING IT TO FIND UR APP IN RUSH OR URGENT, WHAT DO U FEEL? REALLY TENSION, OR REALLY COMFORT OR USED TO IT? THINK ABOUT THIS POINT.

I hate the new caption buttons they are ugly as hell, Things looked good in Consumer Preview... In fact it just got worse for every release since Developer Preview, at least the Developer Preview had a start button, also it looked very cool when switching between Metro and Aero, not it's just the typical borring fade effect. I also found the corner features very annoying as they pop up when i don't want them to. Also the snap feature is useless and stupid, what's the difference between the snap feature and just moving your windows' on your desktop to the side? That's right there is no difference. I love Microsoft and i love Windows and i don't want them to fail but i'm afraid thats what gonna happen. I like Metro but it just doesn't feel very well Integrated with the desktop UI and that's truely a shame, the desktop is where i spend most of my time with Photoshop, Steam, File management and such, i'm just so disappointed and i really don't hope that they're releasing it like this. And what's up with the ugly wallpaper? It so damn gay :S It shouldn't be the default. I'm doing my own Windows 8 mockup today how i want Windows 8 to be, i always wanted to work at Microsoft as a designer, but i'm not sure if they even hire designers, cause that's where Windows always fails and that's number 1 reason for why people are switching to Mac. What i think they should do:
1. Bring back the start button
2. Get rid of the corner features
3. Make Metro more integrated with the Desktop UI
4. Give the Desktop UI a new cool design (It just looks horrible now)
5. The Snap feature should feature more sizes than just small and big
6. Make the OS more userfriendly (that's the biggest problem with Windows 8, and number 2 reason for why people are buying Mac's)
7. Make a much more advanced version of Windows Movie Maker that can compete with programs like Final Cut Pro (The third reason for why people are buying Mac's)
8. Add a free antivirus software with the OS so it would be Virus free (Another reason for why people are using Mac / Linux)
And now for some questions:
1. Why is "Shut Down" in Settings? :S
2. Why is there only like 20% of the Settings when you go to "Change PC settings"? You have to find the rest on the Desktop UI and that really isn't very userfriendly
In my opinion Windows 8 just feels very amateurish and very unprofessional. I'm also very disappointed... Thanks for sharing your thoughts, i have always been a big fan of your work Let's hope Microsoft will realize that they're doing something horrible wrong, otherwise we have to wait for Windows 9.
(Sorry for bad English, i'm from Denmark)

I have to agree with you Windows 8 so far is not as userfriendly as Windows 7 is. Ive already tested it and I had to switch back, its just a nightmare to use. And I'm a power user simply there's a design failure happening at MS and now ditching Aero will do it worse. Though it still has its plus going like the boot speed and stuff but they are leaving desktop users behind and if they are going to make windows for tablets why don't they make a Windows dedicated ONLY for tablets and another Windows for DESKTOPS and avoid this nightmare that is coming up when they release it.
They are doing the same thing that Android did, there was a moment where Android had 2 separate versions, 1 for smartphones, (aka, android 1.x, 2.x) and one for tablets (Android 3.x) they fused both environments on the next version. (4.x,5.x) but MS is fusing desktops with tablets and I say the environment is completely different unlike Android which the environment is virtually the same. This tablet/desktop mix is going nowhere. Forcing us desktop users to switch to tablets is not a good thing. desktop is desktop and tablet is tablet.

My thoughts exactly. It's really sad what they're doing and this could easily damage the Windows market share. I don't understand why they won't listen to the people and at least give us an option to chose what kind of UI we want. However I don't quite agree with 7 and 8. Windows Movie Maker is not designed for the same target audience as final cut pro. It's more like iMovie. There are plenty of alternatives such as Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas for Windows. Also Windows 8 already has a solid antivirus built, at least that's what Microsoft claims. The last 1 and 2 just boggle my mind on how illogical they are. I'm just as disappointed as you in this case.
Your English is fine. I'm currently living in Denmark and find that most Danes speak English very well

True, they should listen to the users more. The desktop and tablets just cant mix. Microsoft is pretending to leave desktop users behind with this implementation. What they should try is making a separate version dedicated for tablets only and another one for desktop users instead of fusing them together in one. They make a tablet variation of Windows phone and call it Windows tablet! But no lets mix the desktop users into this and force them to migrate from desktops to tablets. I say the environments are completely different. You just can't simply touch Windows on a desktop! (unless you have a tablet but still.)

Well yeah about Final Cut Pro i also meant iMovie*.
But seriously, there's just so many things that could be better, i don't see why they didn't just add the charms in the Metro UI, that would be much easier and more userfriendly. Another thing i forgot: Why is there even a lockscreen? Couldn't it just display your mail, messages and such in the loginscreen? Anyway, i just downgraded to Windows 7 and i don't think i will ever upgrade to Windows 8 even if it was free, i'm gonna wait for Windows 9 and hope Microsoft comes to their senses and listening to the users instead of just only themselves.

It reminds me of the XP/Vista thing. I still have an XP Machine and it is still being widely used today (There's a bank near me thet still uses XP) and Vista seems almost wiped out because 7 came and it's better.
Windows 8 is going to be like Vista. Rarely used and people won't go for it on a normal PC or a laptop.

2. No Idea. Could be the basic mode?
3. It doesn't remind me of Windows 95 in any way
4. Windows are "Metrifying" everything, and that includes getting everything flat like the start screen

2)thats what ive been told. just one less thing for non-PC-smart people to screw up on i suppose.
3)it dosent? hmm... well i grew up using windows 95 and dos, so maybe thats why.
4)i think its OK on the start screen, maybe because i have gotten used to a similar style in Omnimo, but program windows should have shadows, on all operating systems. it should be a rule

I never understood the whole reason behind phasing out the start button are they trying to turn the taskbar into a dock? (The taskbar interface is a major reason why I like working on W7 vs OSX, in my opinion W7 is much more efficient at organizing windows and accessing files, programs etc rapidly)...

They hate it because Microsoft changed something they've been using for 18 years. Personally for me, these minor changes in the shell don't come even close to outweighing the botched UX.

1)Getting rid of the start menu. THE THING I'VE BEEN USING TO LAUNCH MY STUFF SINCE WINDOWS 95, gone... :/
2)Dual desktop environments. Cool in theory, the way MS did it... Meh, not that great.
3) Tablet PC UI, even if you dont even own a machine with a touch screen. Although I admit, Metro UI is an amazing concept, for a traditional tower pc, it's not that great... :/
4) No more Aero for the normal desktop?! (Like my machine could run Aero anyways... )
