Well, this is my first tutorial EVER!!So please, forgive, as usual, my bad english, and any mistakes I may commit
Please feel free to criticize (as long as it is constructive) and share any personal experiences and tips. I'm no pro, i'm just a student as any of you, but I may share some tips and tricks I've learnt while practicing.
Such a "painting" takes me about 5 or 6 hours of work, to give you a general idea, and I use Paint Tool SAI.

You make it look very simple but the end result is wonderful! I've played around with Sai a few times, but I just never have the patience

I think we have very different settings on our paint tool SAI.
As instance I have no color on my water tool, mine's just for blending colors. I get a similar effect to yours with the brush tool. Same, I must use either pen or aerograph to get the effect you get with your brush tool.
Btw, it was really cool to see how you proceed! I got some really interesting tips, especially about color theory I am so much ignorant about X) .

I used to use the water tool as a blender as you do, but once I discovered the nice, shoft effect is gives when I use it as a brush I got addicted to it xD
