Description
Drawings featuring him
Text updated: 15.2.2019
Names: Adler Krazjnev
Species: siderian (a northern, horse-sized tiger-oriental cat-lynx like feline)
Gender: male
Birth place: Notochord (a large siderian metacluster), which is located north in the Russian Ural Mountains (by siderians called ‘the Spine’).
Birth year/date (relative to Stian’s birth year) : -3
Death year (relative to Stian’s birth year): …not sure but I think he reaches a reasonable age
Family:
Mother:Navahya
Father: Ferrus Kraznjev
One mate that I know of: Eridia
Offspring: probably several kids with several females. In the area where he lives, siderians of both genders are quite polygamous.
APPEARANCE
Appearance & reputation: Tall and impressive with the appearance of a natural leader. He expresses strong self-confidence, but also warmth and friendliness. With his business-look and leader appearance, hardly anybody dares to say something against him.
Shoulder height: 1,74 m – which is very tall for a siderian. Males are on average 1.6m.
Physical description
Body build: Tall, long lined with a rather fine skeleton. He has generally a tiger like body-build with a cat-like, flexed stance. Even though his skeleton is long, fine and narrow, he is rather muscular which gives him a strong appearance. He carries his head and neck high.
Head:His profile and skull shape is quite unique with a strong downwards sloping muzzle (like Morten see: Morten charactersheet ) , a little kink in the middle that is followed by a slight bump. A pretty fine chin and rather flat, ‘retracted’ cheekbones. Jaw muscles are not so pronounced either. High placed, laterally directed, rounded ears. He generally has a friendly face, combined with a certain intensely in his eyes.
Fur: his coat is generally rather short and soft but with a long haired tail and long sleek mane. His mane are long, but his sleek hair falls smoothly over his neck. His mane continues over his chest, but he lacks the ‘ornamental’ long hair on the skin that connects the elbows and the chest (like Ferrus has). He carries his mane backwards like his father, although some hairs have the tendency to fall forwards, like Nigras , if he doesn’t actively put it backwards again.
Colour: pretty light silver tabby ticked with strong countershading effect (white feet, inside of the legs, chest and belly). His mane are deep black; from tip to root. He has some thin tabby stripes on his legs, a slightly darker back and a darker, ringed tail. White muzzle and jaws. Light edges around the eyes and a light line that follows the shape of the muzzle (like a lynx/cheetah), from eye to whiskers. Icy light blue eyes.
Jewelry & accessories: no jewelry but he has a whole collection of rare ecals and other items on his territory and he makes hang-gliders.
PERSONALITY & CHARACTER
Personality and mannerisms:
MBTI personality type: ENFJ – P (the protagonist/giver)
He is generally rather nonchalant and a dominant nosy-parker. He can easily manipulate others by playing nicely along while he actually turning things in his own direction – he’s opportunistic and initially pretty greedy. He’s very good at playing with words and with his low, calm and quiet voice he can even influence the most stubborn ones (e.g. Stian). He can look intensely in one’s eyes and politely threaten others with bad consequences, using his status and calm, nonchalant attitude. He trusts his high status. He is good at choosing the right ‘friends’ in his personal advantage. With his exceptional skills in bribery he gets what he wants, by giving others the idea that dealing with him is highly advantageous. He does nicely reward them though – to keep them on his side.
At the same time he’s a warm, kind and polite gentleman with a lot of empathy (in sharp contrast to his father) and has generally a very care-taking personality. He’s emotionally very stable and he doesn’t show anything of his feelings and emotions to his ‘business’ partners. He has steel control over himself all the time. However, especially later on, (when Ferrus turns crazy) he acts a lot upon empathy and feeling, rather than strategy. He has a soft spot for females and comforts them when needed in the difficult situation that Ferrus caused. In contrast to Ferrus, he thinks that real power is not achieved by fear and the ability to kill others, but by warmth and trust.
Type of humor: mildly provocative but still playful positive quite jolly humor
Voice, manner of speaking
his voice sounds both soft and impressive.
The best voice refs so far:
E nomine with Martin Keßler as voice actor:

I don’t like the text here at all…I don’t give a shit about this but somehow I came over it once and it matched quite like 100% with Adler…
And less typical but somehow it feels a bit like him: Im zeichen des Zodiak (great song!!!): www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyEr-u…
Sexuality: hetero and quite polygamous. He’s not really bound to one mate.
Spirituality and philosophy: I don’t think he’s very spiritual but he does like to ponder over deeply ethical questions and philosophies and challenge stereotypes.
Fears: to get revealed as ‘traitor’
Dreams: peace in Notochord and possibilities to develop his hobbies more
Interest, hobbies, occupation:
He has a special interest in flying and making ecal-empowered hang-gliders for siderians. He becomes such a specialist in this, that siderians come from all over the world to trade.
In addition to his flying-passion collects rare ecals and other rare items.
Occupation: he is quite involved in coordinating the metacluster Notochord. Already as an adolescent, he managed to gain quite some status under his grandfather. He was mostly checking the status of certain shared places (paths, ecals, marking borders) and reporting observations to Nigras (his grandfather). He continued to do so when his father took over the cluster. Under his father’s lead, he got more involved in providing recourses (e.g. food, ecals, shelters) and became quite an important figure in the cluster coordination business.
Special skills: having great insight in interactions between siderians – so he can manipulate his way through in getting what he wants. He is also specialized in making hang-gliders for siderians and is very skilled at trading. Quite a business guy.
STORY
Before his father took over the lead
Adler was mostly raised by his mother since his father had multiple mates and was involved in cluster coordination business with Adler’s grandfather Nigras. Adler didn’t have full siblings to play with, but he had enough contact with similar aged cubs in Notochord. His childhood was relatively quiet and as he reached puberty, he developed a strong interest in flying and started experimenting with making hang-gliders out of wood and skins. At the same time, he got himself involved in some cluster coordination business and developed an interest in collecting rare ecals and other rare items. His work and skills were appreciated by his grandfather and this brought him also in closer contact with his own father again. However, there was a growing tension between his father and grandfather and it was a matter of time before Ferrus would chase Nigras off the leading position. Adler tactically stayed out of the crossfire and maintained a good relation with both, without coming across as a spy.
Making the right friends in times of crisis
Indeed, when Adler reached his thirties, his father took over the lead and pressed his violent regime through. Tension increased in the metacluster Notochord. Siderians and Northern hyenas lived in constant competition over land and Ferrus was about to make an end (temporarily) to the conflicts by violently chasing hyenas away to smaller, poorer hunting grounds. Ferrus has established a solid ‘army’ of fanatic followers and wanted to have many sons that could be of potential help. However, he didn’t care much about his offspring and he only wanted them to be functional for him. One of his sons, Adler, made use of that and he just parked himself in a meeting between Ferrus’s and his highest followers. In these turbulent times, Adler choose his ‘friends’ wisely and he made good contact with Ferrus and his followers, in order to get richer land (with good hunting areas, rare and powerful ecals, a good communication connection, more tools, a nice place to live and so on). Adler tried to get a high position in Ferrus’ business by appointing himself an important function of delivering Ferrus (et al.) food and probably other rare resources that he managed to obtain by clever bribery.
Opportunistic moves
Adler became leader of the main hunting party that supplied the inhabitants of the center of Notochord with extra food. Ferrus started to bring his ‘get-rid-of-hyenas plan’ in motion- first by violently chasing them away. This caused a lot of fear among the hyenas, and Adler cleverly used that by offering them an opportunity to hunt for him, on his lands, so that they could escape from Ferrus’ claws. Adler used the fact that scared northern hyenas demanded much less in return for hunting than siderians do. Siderians demand ecals as payback for participating in a hunting party, so Adler’s argument of having hyenas for free, perfectly held ground for Ferrus and his followers. As long as Adler delivered what Ferrus needed (and that he did perfectly), he didn’t care about the methods that Adler was using. When the tension and violence against the hyenas increased, they got more desperate and Adler offered them a safe position in his hunting party as long as they delivered all their (ecal) resources they had to him. He promised to pay them back generously in food, safety and shelter. However, Ferrus (and followers) killed many hyenas anyway and Adler was just cleverly taking advantage of that by accumulating their stuff.
A sense of empathy
Ferrus began to expand his extermination programs from hyenas to arctians, humans, bears, lynx, wolves and all possible competitors that could stand in his way to get more power and resources. The increasing violence started to play on Adler’s empathy and the more suffering he saw; the more he became affected by it. As good and as bad has he could, he tried to communicate with the different species and offered them a place in his land, so that they could help him delivering more food and resources to Ferrus. They were not imprisoned by Adler, but just desperately wanted to stay with him, since Ferrus and his followers did not enter Adler’s land – as long as Adler delivered what they wanted. Adler managed to get more and more land from Ferrus, since he did is job well. Adler’s argument of doing good business by ‘abusing’ the hyenas (and now other species as well) still worked fine for Ferrus, while Adler actually began to handle purely driven by empathy.
Risky business
Seeing Ferru’s violence hurt him him, and the more suffering he saw, the more he wanted to save hyenas, arctians, humans, and even siderians ect from Ferrus’ claws. Since Ferrus’ also created a lot of fear among the siderian inhabitants of Notochord itself (especially the females), Adler sometimes sneakily offered them a way out, so that they could come to his land. However, Adler had to keep a lot of his ‘saving actions’ hidden under the argument of ‘good business’ for most inhabitants of Notochord. They mainly believed that Adler was just one of Ferrus’ followers and was just overexploiting and abusing everybody. He had to keep his true actions strictly secret for Ferrus and his followers. One little mistake could mean his death. However, some rumours of Adler’s hunting party being a safe haven, had spread, especially among the worst victims, namely non-siderians. Adler started to accumulate so many victims on his land and it couldn’t hold much longer; he began to run out of resources to sustain them all. He had to ‘fake’ the situation more and more to Ferrus et al.
A sudden relief
Since Ferrus’ actions became even more insane, even his most loyal followers slowly began to lose faith in him. At that time another human-hunting siderian named Stian and his followers visited Notochord. He initially intended to collaborate with Ferrus, but Ferrus coldly refused his offer and violently tried to assault Stian’s mate Vivanna. Stian lost control over his fury and killed Ferrus in a fierce battle, nearly at the cost of his own life. Stian temporarily took over the lead of Notochord and most of Ferrus’ followers were either killed straight away by angry inhabitants (supported by Stian’s ‘army’) or caught and kept imprisoned for later judgement (which is much more ‘unofficial’ than in human societies – see notes…it’s quite a Notochord-thing).
Thanks for nothing
After the death of Ferrus, the hyenas, siderians, humans, arctians ect who lived and worked on Adler’s land, were safe and free again. However, most siderian inhabitants of Notochord associated Adler with Ferrus as being one of his followers. They attacked him as well. He was kept imprisoned, together with some other followers of Ferrus who weren’t killed straight away. They were kept for several weeks in the deepest caves of Notochord, under horrible circumstances with hardly any food or comfort. At the day of the ‘final judgement’ they had the chance to give one speech to tell the story from their perspective before the inhabitants of Notochord decided whether to kill them or not. Siderians don’t have official judges, but it’s merely the inhabitants themselves who decide whether they want to have them around or not.
The final judgement
Then it was Adler’s turn. He was very weakened and emaciated, but he had enough strength left to tell his heroic story, even though he understood that he had violated many unwritten rules by initially abusing others in his advantage. He was honest about everything and many of the siderians/hyenas/arctians/humans who were saved by him, stood by his side. Together, they managed to convince the other siderians of Notochord that Adler had risked his own life to save them. Even though Adler was Ferrus’s son, most inhabitants were convinced and even appointed him as the new coordinator (‘leader’) of Notochord. After all the mess that Ferrus created during his years of terror, Adler built up a new and well-functioning metacluster again, where there was place for more species than only siderians.
Peace?
During Adler’s first months as new cluster coordinator, Stian and his ‘gang’ were still around in Notochord. Stian saw his plans for collaboration in a human-elimination project fall apart. He was very puzzled when he saw siderians, humans (and northern hyenas) standing together, in order to get their ‘hero’ free. He had always learned, through very bad experience, that humans are brutal and merciless mass murderers. Stian’s hate was so strong that he believed that it was a trick and he wanted to continue his elimination plan. However, Adler spoke to him and told him that not all humans are as evil as Stian believed. Adler told him that especially the humans in these areas were much more tolerant to other predators then where Stian came from. Humans here respected siderians. With Adler’s talent of convincing others, he even managed to alter Stian’s plans. Altogether, Stian abandoned this part of his plan and left Notochord. He continued his missions in the Fjordlands…
Some notes on siderians and my world in general:
- Resources among siderians: are mainly ecals, both raw material and devices and tools they make of it. Resources also rich hunting grounds, comfortable shelters and services.
- Humans in the region around Notochord, and generally in Russia have a much more natural and peaceful way of living than most modern humans have. They mainly live of hunting and keeping livestock in small settlements. Much like the Sami people in northern Scandinavia. Most of them have a respectful and tolerant attitude to other animals and nature in general.
- Communication with other species: siderians have their own language and communication with other species is challenging. They do learn a bit human language (by eavesdropping), but they need translators (siderians who are particularly interested in learning the language of another species by observation) for smooth communication. On the other hand, metaphysical energy makes some degree of brain-wave communication possible by ‘sending’ mental images. However, this is challenging when one crosses the species border. Birds are especially good at this.
-Judgement among siderians. This is not something very official among siderians. In metaclusters, were siderians live closer together, there are some rules, but these are mainly just unwritten guidelines. Violation or rules and conflicts are solved at the spot – usually without any violence. Murder is very rare, but when heavy conflicts escalate, it can happen. In some metaclusters one individual in particular can be tasked to keep order and peace. In larger conflicts or severe violations of ‘rules’ individuals can be captured and imprisoned – if not killed straight away- and are given the chance to tell their story. Then the inhabitants of the metacluster and somebody with more knowledge about social siderian behaviour and judgement, decide what to do later. This system is not present in all metaclusters.

oh so humans will be in on this? I've always wondered the extent of communication between Siderians and humans...
hum, that is very interesting
btw he is very pretty I love his markings.

Yep! Yeah it's still a bit under construction, this communication part. In the comic Theory of Mind, I have kinda chosen the easy way and just made siderians and northern hyenas communicate with each other as if they were the same species from the same region. But of course it's not that simple. Since siderians are curious and highly intelligent (how cliché, I know), they are of course able to learn many language of other species too. They just may have some restrictions in vocalizations- so I don't think they can produce all human or hyena (or whatever language they want to learn) sounds perfectly, but they can learn to communicate with a certain species. The other alternative they have is brainwaves, but here I have to go pretty deep into neurobiology and physics (and metaphysics to make it work). And since different individuals and thus different species have (slightly)different brain structures, it's a difficult thing to make work properly. Anyway, conclusion: advanced communication between species is possible, but must be learned.
Adler may be able to speak English with humans and maybe know something about hyenas too, but he may need translators to help him.

Ah ok that's really cool. makes a lot of sence to me, and also if the human is well aware of the animals body language that can help fill in the communication gaps. (Same for Siderians to humans or whatever other species is involved) ok nice that clears up a lot of things for me.

Oh, Adler gets a proper character sheet now!
I didn't even know this was up here!
He's a tall boy indeed (also looks to have quite long metatarsals too), and I love his piercing eyes - also notice how retracted his cheekbones are as you say, gives his face a rather narrow/flat look in frontview, which goes nicely with his sleek mane. <3
He has an interesting story too, and even if he was rather manipulative to start with, at least he was good at heart, and did make a difference to many lives in the end, and even Stian listened to him... O_o
Ha, at least things turned out well for him in the end even if he suffered whilst being imprisoned for a while.
(as said in my last comment, Krovendraekk do not tend to imprison captives in general - as a species, they move around a lot, and would find this inconvenient - much more convenient instead to either kill or maim any captives and have done with it. They will take hostages on rare occasions, but generally... that isn't the case. And for trials - those are a luxury rather than the norm... )

Yeppies! I just got hopelessly addicted to him I'm afraid. And with him, his mother and wife came as well... And yep, Adler is really long and tall; I compared him with Stian and Falkner (the two extremes in heavy vs fine skeleton so far) and concluded that Adler has the same long and fine skeleton as Falkner. However, Adler is more muscular, so he doesn't look so extremely thin, just long and tall. And indeed, his metatarsals (but also metacarpals) are exceptionally long (this comes from his mother actually). He also has exactly the same typical face from his mother (damn she's beautiful too; her name is Navahia).
And yeah Adler had to do/play as if he was one of Ferrus' followers all the time, in order to 'get close' and get inside info. But indeed, initially he actually joined to get the advantages as some kind of opportunistic parasite. But thankfully he has much more empathy than his father and with his manipulative mastermind he managed to save some 'victims'. But he had to appear like one of Ferrus' so the inhabitants of Notochord were really sceptical and imprisoned him for months, with none or very little food. So during his trail, there was hardly anything left of his impressive 'leader' appearance.
Anyway interesting how Krovens handle those things, they really appear to be pretty violent! And yeah the imprisonment/trail thing is something that only works around metaclusters I think, where the population is large/dense enough to need a certain 'social control' system. But I think it differs per situation and per metacluster. Many of Ferrus' followers were killed straight away in a kinda revolt, but the few that didn't appear so bad or the one's that stayed calm and gentle (like Adler), got a second chance.
Btw I will answer your other comments later I hope - I've read them, but have to find time for writing a reply

Haha, nice! ^^
And they sound interesting too, his mother's name is beautiful I must say. <3
Ah, yes, I noticed Adler had a light skeleton, but more smoothed-over with his muscles than Falkner was.
And yep, I noticed both were long but I think in this pose, the metatarsals really stood out to me as being longer than average, I think the pose drew my attention to them more.
Yes indeed, he joined for different reasons, but later changed his mind and his motivations once he was there...
And yes, because he had to play his role, to some on the outside, it may have looked rather convincing - it HAD to for it to work so he could help without arousing the suspicions of Ferrus' other followers and Ferrus himself, but to those others they weren't sure if they could believe him, and if he was really one of Ferrus' devotees after all.
Glad you think it's interesting... and yes, Krovens can be REALLY violent, indeed they're more violent and murderous as a species than humans... the only "positive" difference is that at least they don't destroy the environment so are better than humans in that respect, but in their treatment of their own species, you could perhaps say they're even worse at times... indeed, not just murder, but on a larger scale - wars, massacres, genocide... they've done it all, and continue to do so.
I never wanted them to be perfect, noble and peaceful creatures (since I think a lot of species out there are too "idealised" and made too perfect by their creators, particularly more fantasy-heavy species), but it seems over time they've developed themselves and taken things rather further - but it works in the stories and I think works with the species, so yep - some pretty dark things in Krovendraekk. But they've always had some rather extreme tendencies, so with their natures it seems fitting, even if a bit shocking at times.
Of course most "average" Krovens don't get involved in things like this, but species-wide, they're far from being a utopian society, and are very much inclined towards violence and prejudice.
They're also not the most forgiving of creatures... and with their lifespans and the fact that grudges tend to persist within families, they can potentially hold prejudice or grudges for thousands of years - so it's not surprising in a way that conflicts can break out rather easily.
And ha, Siderians referred to the Northern Hyenas as murderers... hehe, I wonder what they'd think of Krovens, since for Krovendraekk, it is actually pretty rare for murder to illicit any kind of social reaction unless for the reasons stated above, like if there is no clear motive or the victim is vulnerable such as an invalid or a cub (indeed, though they weren't successful, a group of wartime deserters tried to murder Habicht's two cubs... until of course "daddy" came back in time and wasted the lot of them... *though not before Adler had been "played with" by his attackers first, little cub was lucky to survive*).
And yes, that makes sense I think for such a big group, there needs to be some kind of order in that kind of population density. And I guess that makes sense because they had caused so many problems for the inhabitants that they provoked this reaction, and if they fought then their own violence resulted in the inhabitants killing them in the revolt - but the rebels clearly didn't use excessive force or violence since they allowed some of Ferrus' groups a second chance and didn't kill the ones who were calm and didn't fight back, so that shows more compassion and understanding there. <3 ^^
And no problem, don't worry about it, I've said before that I don't mind waiting for a reply at all, take as long as you need! ^^
