Description
a portrait of DA artist Habitual Flippancy, done in watercolors on watercolor paper. her necklace says "corrupt" by the way, i know it is hard to make out in the itty bitty version.again, you see more subtle stuff in the full-view.

Did you know that this picture could have easily been a perfect illustration for the orirginal red Ridding hood...?

well, "Original" is something very hard to pin down, so many people think they know the "Original" version. but that was the inspiration, yes. that and a picture of my friend ana wearing a red shawl over a red bodice.

I figured that you might know but I didn't want to say OH I'm sure you know...like it was common knowledge and that you are a complete idiot for not knowning some little piece of literature trivia/and then appear like an asshole, so I just thought I'd ask if you did, just to be safe.

Very nice work indeed ^_^ I think the juxtaposition of blue and black, against red, really drew my eye to this peice immediatly.
Its so vivd and bright, its what makes it all work so well layout-wise!

I've been reading Jung lately so I'm finding this a fairly loaded painting, symbolically speaking.

if you want to lay out the psychoanalysis, feel free. i don't mind. Jung is better than freud, at least he's not all about oedipal complexes and oral fixation...

Jung split with Freud exactly because of that actually. Jung's approach acknowledges that human motivation is more complex than wanting to sleep with your mother or whatever. But Freud does deserve credit for bringing scientific and rational approach to psychology.
I don't want to analyze the painting, I was just thinking that it's an interesting spin on the Red Riding Hood tale - this seems to imply that it is the animal that is the innocent, not the girl. The story is a perfact example of Jung's male and female archetypes.

yeah i like the implication being reversed like that. jung and freud got into a major argument about human motivations specifically concerning dream interpretation. pretty neat stuff there. i am very into the archetype idea. i think it holds true for a lot of things, and makes sense for many cultures. good stuff.

I like the composition and stuff, but the wolf looks stiff (even stuffed). Good nonetheless.

the wolf got overall too dark too quickly. it's much easier to make thing sdark than to make them light with watercolors. :-P

Which is why I've always hated the little bastards and ended up throwing them accross the room every time I've tried to use them.

I have all the patience in the world if I can correct stuff. Stupid-arse watercolours.

Oh, I thought this was a reference to "Ladyhawk." (that's the story where a spell is cast on these two lovers. The spell makes the woman into a hawk by day and the man stays the same. Then at night the man turns into a wolf and the hawk turns back into the woman so that the two can never be with each other......just in case you didn't know the story......and I hope that explanation wasn't too confusing.)

i saw the movie about 4 times back when i was in high school, so i know! not so much to do with that as the fairy tale. but thanks.

Okay, I just wanted to make sure because a lot of people don't know what the heck I'm talking about when I say Ladyhawk. I'm glad you're well educated though. Hehe.
