Personality and Fighting Style:
The facets of Ophiomega's personality are as numerous and varied as the hues he assumes, likely due to his chimerical nature. For the most part, however, he is enthusiastic, jolly, gregarious, and good-natured, and serves as a comic-relief-style foil to the more serious aquatic kaiju. Unlike most reptiles who generally keep to themselves, he displays a higher degree of intelligence and social behavior more akin to many cetaceans. His entrance call is the classic serpentine hiss produced by exhalation, but he can produce a wide range of sounds and even sing, resonating air within his gullet and adjusting the pitch with his tongue and rather avian-style larynx to imitate a variety of sounds ranging from reptilian growls, snarls, and roars to dolphin and whale calls and even human speech and song. In fact he exhibits a mimicking behavior most of the time, and whatever he sees he will try to copy, with varying results. Hilarity often ensues as his behavior lends itself well to a variety of rather biting but good-natured jokes and pranks that are almost always played for laughs in the perspective of all but the most emotionless or totally messed-up of peers. Sentients fascinate him, since he was created by Sapients (humans), and in contrast to other sea monsters who view the so-called "hairless beach apes" as a liability for polluting and overfishing the world's oceans, Ophy actually likes them and in fact has as good a reputation among them as he does with other sea monsters. Most of this reputation comes from his willingness to protect them, such as steering ships away from hazardous waters and bringing gifts (usually food) to villages in need - or occasionally defending them from world-destroying kaiju. Ophy has particular attachment to his partner, Lapis Lazuli, whom he rescued personally when she was little, and the two of them are almost never seen on the battlefield without each other.
Despite his joyous exterior, however, Ophy does display a much darker side, particularly when insulted. He actually craves friendship and appreciation, and if he is turned down and/or disrespected he will react badly, sometimes on a rather disproportionate scale. He will not attack for obvious reasons but will rather slither away to sulk, demanding to be alone and warding off any intruder out of paranoia that the mistreatment will continue; often, only his close allies and his partner can be trusted to get him over it. On the other hand, when his friends and allies are hit by misfortune, his time is spent trying to comfort them as much as possible, although those who try to visit the ally concerned while he's there will still be given the cold(-blooded) shoulder. Most of all, however, Mana help you if you abuse one of Ophy's allies directly, because he is after all fiercely protective of his company and not afraid to fight in their defense. If calling you out on the act in a suitably menacing fashion does not suffice (read: if you don't care about his response or are simply too fucked up in the head), primal reptilian instinct and vindictiveness will inevitably take over as he will hunt you down in true serpentine fashion, corner you, and dispose of you in the most hilariously ironic and excruciatingly painful way possible.
The Sea Spectrum's long, sinuous body is equipped to dish out damage, but can't take it as well. Venomous snakes use a hit-and-run hunting style: they deliver a venomous bite and retreat until the prey succumbs to said bite. Likewise, if they are threatened by an opponent they usually don't stick around to risk injury; they bluff and threaten, then bite if the threat persists, to make sure the threat doesn't bother them anymore. This is how Ophy fights, since despite his chimerical nature he is structured very much like a sea-dwelling elapid. Avoiding physical combat is one of his high points since he can flex his body into knots and loops to squirm out of an opponent's grasp to go with biting the crap out of it, using precision strikes at softer parts with small doses of venom and the occasional 'dry bite' to weaken the foe into submission. Only when he is sure the opponent will not be able to fight back will he deliver the finishing move, using his coils to latch on and stay out of harm's way while he aims a 'loaded' bite/blast at the weakest point, essentially chemically ordering the enemy to 'drop down, and STAY down.'

Moveset:
Melee - Serpentine Structure: Like a cross between a cobra and a crocodile and every bit as deadly as both, Ophy's flexible, chimeric body allows for a startling variety of twists and tricks in the heat of battle. The several hundreds of vertebrae that run down his spinal column are all connected by ball and socket joints for maximum mobility, allowing him to loop and coil his body around multiple times, and simply flex out of the way of enemy attacks (probably because he can't take them very well). He slithers on land with his belly scales hugging the ridges of the ground, but rockets through the water like a multicolored homing missile, undulating against the current to make the most of the fins running down his body.
---------- Dual Fangs (Strike 1): The business end of the great serpent, naturally, is his jaws. The jagged outer edges of the mouth hide rows of sharp teeth like an anaconda to sink into and grip a victim, but the more dire issue is the double-set of fangs hidden inside. These are connected to his primary mana gland which is divided into two different sections and thus produces two different venomous cocktails at once. The long frontal fangs can fold upwards and backwards and deliver a neurotoxic venom that contains pre-synaptic bungarotoxins, derived from those of several species of sea kraits, which first blocks transmitter release and then overexcites the nervous system before finally paralyzing the victim. The neurotoxin is capable of paralyzing organic monsters of Lightweight rank or below almost instantly, and send Middleweight-rank and above kaiju into a fit of spasms, cramps, and tremors that makes it difficult for them to coordinate their own attacks properly. The shorter, fixed rear fangs are used only as a last resort, as they secrete hemotoxic venom laced with a mixture of 10 different enzymes as well as various metal ions, amines, lipids, free amino acids, proteins, and polypeptides, rather like a rattlesnake. In servere cases it causes intense necrosis, coagulopathy (disrupted clotting), immense tissue destruction, and lots and lots of anguished screaming as it predigests the victim's insides and generally creates an excruciatingly painful experience that its scant few survivors (usually Heavyweight rank or above) often point-blank refuse to repeat. Ophy values his fangs because he is not equipped for prolonged combat: when hunting prey sub-kaiju, he delivers a poisonous bite to his target before retreating, and only later when the venom has killed and "softened" the prey does the serpent catch up with it and eat it.
---------- Tail Slap (Strike 2): While the fangs are the first item to worry about, the other end is no laughing matter either, despite being long and conspicuous-looking. The muscular tail, normally adapted for swimming, has a muscular base and tapers down towards the tip, and is also adorned with a large, vibrant tailfin (see also Poison Point, Aqua Tail, and Razor Fins). With the fins folded a lash of the tail can occasionally break ribs or limbs if he scores a lucky hit.
---------- Poison Point (Charge): The foldable spines on his fins are extensions of his vertebrae and ribs, and they are both needle-sharp and poisonous. They secrete the same neurotoxic venom as the fangs, and the effects are similar. When slithering forward in a charge attack, the spines of the fins on the sides of the neck, reminiscent of cobra hoods and lionfish fins, stand erect along with the dorsal fin on the top of the head, allowing him to sideswipe an opponent and paralyze it.
---------- Coiled Like A Spring (Jump-Strike): The muscules running down the body work like a biological drive chain for for swift movement, even leaping straight up into the air. By coiling his body multiple times and tensing the muscles around the spine, Ophy can store enough tension to shoot like a spring in impressive leaps. He doesn't fall randomly, though - with a good enough hang time, he can control his descent by sucking in his gut and flaring his ribs and side fins the way paradise tree snakes do, forming a wing-like shape and "swimming" through the air. In this way he can parachute up to a mile to safety or, sometimes, right on top of an unsuspecting opponent.
---------- Constricting Coils (Combo 1): The same coils used for swimming can be used to bind and constrict, but not to crush - his body is not quite powerful enough for the latter function. He throws body coils around the opponent, getting as close as possible to the respiratory system, and then squeezes.
---------- Aqua Tail (Combo 2): The massive tailfin acts like a paddle, allowing him to streak through the water. When opened suddenly it flashes its bright red membrane of skin to startle an opponent and, if that doesn't work, it can swing like the wave of a hurricane. In the water, it literally produces a powerful wave that can smash into an opponent, and in the air it can concentrate water droplets from the air as it goes to produce a buffeting pulse with a similar result.
---------- Razor Fins (Combo 3): Although made of skin and bone, all of his fins have razor-sharp edges. A careless graze on either Ophy's part or that of his enemy allows the edges to slash at exposed flesh, leaving deep, bleeding cuts.
Ranged - Projectile Venom: Like certain species of cobras, Ophiomega can project venom in short bursts. Muscular contractions upon either of the mana gland's two separate venom chambers force their respectivevenoms through the forward-facing holes at the tips of the fangs. This allows him to spray a burst of poison up to 5 times his length, aiming for his target's face and eyes. Because the neurotoxic front fangs are easier to aim it's the neurotoxin that goes first, but the hemotoxin may also be delivered if his intent is to maim and incapacitate his opponent.
Short-Range Special - Chest Mouths: Most enemies think attacking his underbelly is a good idea. This is partly true but, at certain times, it isn't a smart idea. His chest plate can swing open to unleash, quite unlike any known vertebrate, a set of fleshy extensions of his intestines, complete with sharp-toothed mouths. These work like a combination of chameleon tongues and octopus tentacles, tubes of muscle that can shoot forward, coil, twist, and writhe in a gruesome mess that can grab and haul an enemy within range of his other attacks. This weapon is nightmare fuel unleaded for monsters of Middle-Lightweight rank or below, and most kaiju are thankful that he only brings it out when he's really, REALLY pissed off.
Long-Range Special - Vapor Bombs/"Root Bubbles": The former term is the official name for this attack, the latter his personal nickname for it. An improved form of the Projectile Venom attack above, it comes from the misconception that the spitting cobra uses exhalation as well as venom secretion to "spit." Gases generated inside the stomach concentrate into a dense ball within his crocodilian gizzard, and as Ophy sucks air into the gizzard to prepare for the attack, the windpipe is sealed off while the fangs secrete venom in varying amounts which streams in a fine mist down the durable esophagus and into the gizzard where it dissolves into the gas. Then it is all pressurized by the gizzard wall, and finally chucked up and out in a powerful belch, sending a concentrated vapor grenade at the intended target. Usually the neurotoxic venom is used in modest amounts so the enemy can be bought to its knees, but when he really means business a larger amount of neurotoxin is applied to put the enemy in a paralyzed coma and in extreme cases, the hemotoxin is thrown in for extra destruction. This attack is less accurate than the venom projection itself and also charges more slowly, but it's faster when fired and has the added benefit of potentially taking out multiple enemies at once by covering the area surrounding the impact in a shroud of venomous, explosive mist.

Powers/Abilities:
Serpent Sense: Like all snakes, Ophy has the usual armament of senses to guide him towards a target. He hears with both through the ventral scales like a snake and through visible eardrums like a crocodile, and he can register speech patterns and vocalizations as well as movement. The forked tongue and Jacobson's organ allow for stereoscopic taste/scent to determine the position of whatever he's tasting/smelling. Lastly, a pair of boa-like heat-sensitive pits on the tip of the snout work in conjunction with large, light- and motion-sensitive eyes to pinpoint warm-blooded creatures, but can also work independently to enable him to hunt in total darkness.
Swift Swim: Like all snakes and especially like sea snakes and kraits, Ophiomega is a proficient swimmer and, in fact, he is incredibly fast and agile in the water. His serpentine shape allows him to flex and coil against the current, often undulating sideways so his tail fin can be exploited to its fullest potential. He can streak through the water at 220 mph, and dive up to a mile in depth. Unlike normal snakes, however, he can breathe in water, since he has gills on the undersides of of his neck to extract oxygen allowing him to remain submerged for up to 48 hours at a time.
Rapid-Fire Adaptation: Most reptiles do not change the color or texture of their skin, so it was thought that Ophy's color-change ability is derived from the cromatophores of chameleons or cephalopods. However, it soon became clear through observation that his genetic material is in fact highly unstable. Like salamanders that can regrow their limbs through cell development reversal, the cells of various areas have the capability of reverting to stem cells at any time with the right chemical traces in the environment or the right hormone combinations, allowing him to regenerate from wounds easily and furthermore change the shape of various body parts at will. Most of the time he sticks to a consistent theme with his limb structure and coloration throughout the course of a match, but given the choice he is capable of tailoring his limbs, skin texture, coloration, and weaponry to suit whatever enemy he may be facing, with functions ranging from camouflaged ambush to raw flat-out speed. Outside of battle he also likes to experiment with this ability and while he mostly practices camouflaging himself with it, every once in a while he may be found testing out a garish mish-mash of colors and body parts tacked on, often to the amusement of his colleagues and himself alike.

Weaknesses:
Fragile Speedster: Ophiomega is not very durable, scaly skin aside. He is built for fast swimming and quick precision strikes, but that's about it. Though his top and bottom do have thicker and wider scales than the rest of his body and have limited resistance to lightweight assault, but attacks of any kind to his sides, fins, and tail can and will damage him by a significant margin.
Above or Behind: All of Ophy's sensory organs save for vibrations are located in his head. This means attacking the head is usually the best solution. However, the venomous fangs make this a risky choice of action - unless you realize that his eyes face forward for binocular vision and he can't see things coming at him from behind. Aerial attacks work similarly because he can't see things coming at him from directly above unless he looks up. Flying opponents give him the hardest time because he finds it difficult to draw a bead on them and frequently becomes frustrated when they repeatedly escape his coiling grasp and bite.
Delicate Fins: As the title says, Ophy's fins are made of skin. Damage can be healed but it takes time, and enough holes in the tailfin especially will soon slow him down considerably.
The Problem with Non-Organic Life-Forms: The Spectrum of the Sea is built for combat with organic monsters only, and this crippling overspecialization rears its ugly head highest when he's faced with non-organic life forms such as mechas, golems, and the undead. His venom won't affect them, his physical attacks can barely scratch them, and his senses will register something without blood or vital organs and in short just plain wrong. If he sees anything made of stone or metal that doesn't have a heartbeat among the opposition, he knows full well that he cannot win against that particular opponent and will almost always leave it for stronger, better-equipped allies to handle.

Theme Song: - TBA

****************************************

Having just learned that the final I took today is the last one I'm taking this quarter, I figured I'd treat myself tonight. And since Ophy's new design was more warmly received than the previous one, I figured I'd go ahead and finish it.

After all, I believe his eye-bleeding "sparkleanimal"-ness will finally get a chance to shine through now that he's in color.

The fins and such kind of remind me of some of those reef-dwelling fish, though I think this guy's even more colorful than those.

So is he really going to be like this all the time, or is it a demonstration of some limited shapeshifting abilities akin to what happened with Chameleotitan?

Well he can change colors and limited forms, yes. Most of the time he will have a fairly consistent color scheme for the sake of camouflage, so I would consider this a display of some sort.
