Description Well, my bro ryuzo said he was going back to his roots (drawing Spiderman), and that made me think back as far as I could to the first stuff I remember drawing. Thank the lords on high for the internet, 'cause somehow magically I found it (needed technical reference to re-draw it).

It's Go Ranger from 1975-1978. I watched this show as a little kid, and I still have those scribbles in my old children's books today . Some links in case you are curious:

Go-Ranger, Ikkyu-san (an old Japanese cartoon which I won't be re-drawing), and one other cartoon (coming soon), and Battle of the Planets (butchered version of Gatchaman, but what did I know, I was so young) were some of the staples in my earliest years .

hehe, thanks... it should be there in your subconscious somewhere. I remember playing #1 (red), and AC #2 (blue), and you usually had the option of playing #3 by position (yellow) and/or #5 the youngest team member (green) ... I think I said Mom was #4; of course, no one wants to play the pink one, hehe! But I do remember that I thought that #2's mask was the coolest (I still think so). Little did I know that this is the first one that started it all... all the way up to the Power Ranger stuff the kids were into not long ago... I remember I was 3 when I first drew, and seeing some of the evidence, I guessed it must've been Go Ranger. If not, it can only be preceded by Gatchaman !

It's a wonder I found it. I don't even remember what keywords I used in the search engine. But I also have to thank the guys and gals that put up webpages of old "junk" that no one cares about, or only a few do , so that those of us that do care can actually fill in the holes of the memory and bring back some nostalgia...

What's amazing, is that with all this Japanese 5-team member, each of a diff. color stuff, Gatchaman is still earlier (1972). By the time you get to the 'lions Voltron' (1981), it's pretty weak, but still has that power to grasp some fans.

I remember you would watch me drawing when you were really young, like climbing up on the table. I didn't like it at the time 'cause you would get real close to see, and drool and breath on me and the paper, hehe! But if I was on the edge of the table drawing, and your whole body was on the table, you would only see upside-down. And I remember the first Batman's you drew (after watching mine for a while), at age 3?, you drew it upside-down, so you would start with Batman's head pointing downwards at the bottom of the paper. After you finished, you would turn the paper over. Pretty wacky. I tried to tell Mom back then, but I don't think she paid much attention. Probably not long after, you quickly righted yourself, maybe after I kept telling you you were drawing upside-down and in reverse, hehe!

So who knows, maybe Batman is the first fan-art you drew! And I was thinking about this very thing, too; I wasn't going to ask you until I got to Batman myself, and share this story, but I would like to see a modern rendition of Batman by you. Maybe you're not much of a Batman guy, but it'd be cool to see your interp these days just because of back then.

Wow I kinda got tingles reading that story about me watching your art and then drawing upside down...this might be just my imagination but I vaguely remember drawing lots of batman heads with the spikes on either ear and the spikey parts of his cape.
I also cracked up when I read the part about me breathing and drooling on your art, HAHA.
And interesting that you mention Batman cuz there was this guy in a chatroom today that said "Batman kicks Spiderman's ass anyday" and his latest Deviation was a picture of himself in a Batman costume he made. [link]
He even looks like Mike Keaton...

Anyway, yeah totally I want to draw Batman. I'll put him on my list of to-do's! I'm kinda interested in how it will turn out too...

Very cool!

I wouldn't know who to pick for a bigger fave, Batman or Spiderman, but if it was a technical argument of Batman vs. Spiderman, I think if Spiderman caught Batman in Batman's usual gear, than Spiderman takes the fight. If Batman somehow survives (actually Spidey would never intentionally kill a guy so Batman probably would), or if Batman just woke up one day grouchy and wanted to beat up Spidey, than I bet he could get his gear and equipment just right for the task of taking down Spidey. That's the only way I see Batman winning... a rematch where he figured some stuff out and adjusted his gear, weapons and tactics, or he just planned on the hunt from the beginning.

It'd be a good matchup but yeah, neither can really kill so it'd be kinda moot. I just got a weird idea but what if you twisted both batman and spiderman and altered their looks so that they're roman gladiators and then had them go at each other in some warrior arena? Wicked!!

Haha! Dude this rocks! Great rendition, though I've never heard of or seen this tv show before.

Yeah, going back to your roots...that's a super-warp back to your first drawing, wow. I cannot remember my first drawing. Who was it that used to draw upside down?
