Description
This is my process of making multi-colored/multi-paneled garments. The concept is pretty straight-forward, so it’s not revolutionary or anything — but I’ve done many costumes that have needed special paneling of colors, and whether it be a bodysuit, a jacket, pants, whatever, you can use this basic principle for all of them.Basically, it involves making a mockup to determine where the pieces will go, and using that to draft a pattern.

Great tutorial. I was wondering if you need fabric that are similar to each other.

It would certainly be best if the fabrics are similar types. They don't have to be exactly the same, but I would be most concerned about the stretchiness of the fabrics. If say, one was a stretchy jersey knit and the other was a non-stretch fabric like a bottomweight (denim) or a linen, it can cause difficulties sewing because of needing different tension settings, etc. Plus the garment would probably fit a little weird. You'll probably want to use fabrics that are relatively the same thickness, too.
So, yes, you should use fabrics that are relatively similar, but they don't have to be exact!
Hope that helps, and that the tutorial is useful to you!
