Czech students win EU contest for anti-discrimination billboard

Brussels - Young Czech artists won the final of the contest for the best billboard on "EU and Non-Discrimination" staged by the European Commission on Monday.
The contest was held in two age categories, from 12 to 14 years and from 15 to 18 years.
Czech students of the High Artistic School from Liberec, North Bohemia, were successful in the latter category.
Some 6,000 billboards were sent to the contest whose results were proclaimed today.
Filip Menšl, the main author of the design, said he was motivated by the idea that there was not a single, but a number of discriminations, not only racial, but also for belief, sex and sexual orientation.

As a result, he selected a representative from each of the discriminated groups who says in what he differs in a stylised, united graphic form.
"Great emphasis was laid on the man who reads it as everyone on the billboard says: What type of man are you? They actually show that the reader is one of them," Menšl said.
The billboard is accompanied by the slogan "Everyone is different, but we are all humans" and "Everyone wants to be happy, everyone is on the same planet."
The contest was held in all 27 EU countries and was declared at the initiative of EC deputy chairman Franco Frattini on this European Year of Equal Opportunities for All. )

I think they'll find invalid is negative language and would be seen as discriminatory. So might gay.
I find this poster discriminating in itself.
The white, atheist/small religioned, straight, fit, male has to be the most discriminated against group since the late 20th century, and increasing.

I agree with the message, we're all human.
But i'm not keen on its exicution... like someone has said, the chinese man is yellow.
And saying 'a gay', 'a black' - you can be gay and you can be black, but the 'a' makes it sound like its a choice.
Perhaps i'm being pedantic, but that's just how I see it.
Oh and 'invalid', it may mean a disabled person in the dictionary, but it has negative connotations.
Also, I don't like the 'not normal' guy either... what is normal?
I think maybe a simple line of stick people who don't look different would be more effective.
Because we're all human, afterall.

I love the square guy.. But did you ever think it might be offensive to women/muslims/ black people/pretty much anyone on the list to be lumped together like this?
I mean if you're overweight, it's a bad thing, it's not nessiarily your fault, but you are responicible for it, and it's unhealthy. Women are just women, not disabled, not unhealthy, not an ethnic minority, I know you're trying to link them together because they're all discriminated against, and they're all different from the standard... yet you played up to steriotypes.. You made the chinese guy yellow (uch!), you put the woman in a dress, you even used the word "invalid" (uch uch uch!) which is a bad word.
Maybe if you put in someone with something like "I prefer it when it's raining" and so showed these things arn't negative at all unless we make them negative.
