Description
A baby blanket for my adorable baby cousin, Becca (b. 9/6/06).I found a pattern for a baby blanket on a Red Heart skein of yarn and modified it to come up with this. It took about all summer to make, working on and off (64 tiny granny squares had to be made and sewn together
I'm.... one of those annoying relatives who has to show off pictures of babies
Made with Caron's Simply Soft yarn in white, pink, and raspberry (yum, lol). I didn't want all pastels so I chose a couple shades of pink. I think it's ok, but I probably could've used a lighter color than raspberry. Live & learn. I forgot to measure it, but I'm guessing it's about 38"x38"... the Red Heart pattern is supposed to make a 40"x40" blanket, but mine has a few less rows in the border, and I crochet kind of tight so it's a bit smaller.
I give #dAKnitters and #ArtisanCraft permission to post this.

I don't remember the border for this looking like that (this is a project I would like to do in the future, myself). Was that a touch you added yourself?
I like the colors you picked. They work together VERY well and do add a dessert look to the finished piece. BEAUTIFUL!

It is a different border. I found it while browsing through a crochet book. Since I only used two contrasting colors instead of the recommended four, I figured why not keep experimenting and went with the double chain. I'd also considered a shell border.
If you're still considering the pattern, I'd recommend it if you're looking for something relaxing to do because it's pretty simple (judging from the rest of your gallery, you can already do everything in the pattern, so there wouldn't be anything new to learn). The only thing that bugged me was that it was kind of hard to hide all the ends. Oh well.
Dessert look? That's an opinion I haven't heard before but I like it! Actually, now that you mention it, it sort of reminds me of a strawberry parfait

I love the beautiful colors, and the way you've worked the granny squares to look like diamonds. And that edging is FABULOUS. Great work! You have done a great job!

Wow, thanks!
I have to admit, though, the "diamond" parts of the granny squares really aren't all that impressive. The diamond shape is really just the first round of each square. The next two rounds are white so they blend in with the white in the neighboring squares, making the diamond-shaped middle of each square stand out ...if that makes sense

It does make sense. It's still lovely, though.

Cute, she is
My aunt just emailed me pix from her first birthday and they included a couple of her in her high chair. Apparently she thought the jelly they were serving her was for hair styling--curls and purple messiness everywhere, plus a wicked grin on her face
The blanket took a summer to make. I think I averaged a square a day (x64 squares). (It doesn't take very long to make a square, that's just all I had time for )

Oh my.. hair jelly..
The blanket doesn't sound that bad. I just remember trying to make a beanie and I took forever.

Beanies or anything that isn't rectangular and flat do seem to take longer for me

Oh, that is gorgeous. Just might have to download the picture so I can copy the pattern. As has been said before, the raspberry goes really well.

Thanks, hun
I tried but couldn't find the pattern for you online (Google has failed me?? *horrified*). I got it off a skein of Red Heart Super Saver. The original is called "Granny's Little Baby" but I changed it to suit my needs. Really, both versions are just a ton of tiny granny squares: the first round is a color, the next two are white. 64 squares total, sewn into a square, with a few rounds for a border.
Good luck with yours

Thanks It's going to be awhile before I get to it. I think redhearts website might have the pattern, but once you loose the wrapper it's on, it's practically impossible to find those patterns again.

It's going to be awhile before I get to it.
Quite understandable: most crafters I know have a huge "to make" list.
it's practically impossible to find those patterns again
I know! For freebies, you'd think they'd be easier to find online.
Whenever you do get to it, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I still have a fairly good memory of how I made it.

Thanks, sweetie!
Crochet's not too bad... if you knit, I think you could pick up crochet easily enough (most people I've talked with say it's easier).

Aww
Maybe with a bit of practice...? I always like to start off with rectangular things before trying harder stuff like hats. It might be boring, but for me it's useful (to each his/her own, though).
If you do try again: good luck!
If you don't: you'd better get knitting because I want to see some more of your work!

I might do that instead I just thought crocheting a hat would be a piece of cake...I've been knitting its just I have little time to do it..I've been knitting a pair of socks i'm down to the last sock I'll put up pictures when I finish it

I'm working on my first crocheted hat and it's not too bad (grabbed the wrong hook by mistake so it's too small and needs to be frogged, but other than that...). I like doing rectangulars first because then you don't have to worry about shaping or anything like that and can just concentrate on the stitches, not "is it wide/long enough?"
Whee! Socks! I haven't tried those yet so I look forward to seeing yours

this is gorgeous. and she's adorable.
and i think the rasberry is fine. it gives it a little more depth and it doesn't scream "baby blanket" so it could be used elsewhere in the house or kept in her room when she's not a baby anymore.
i really wanna learn how to do this. u need to reteach me how to knit, and teach me to crochet. and hey don't u owe me a scarf or something? lol i kno, demand demand demand. haha

She is adorable.. you should see the Halloween pix, lol
The raspberry doesn't look so bad anymore... I have a habit of hating everything after I finish.
You know I'll gladly reteach you (though this is crochet, not knit... but you thought that one was easier anyway, no?)
I'm in the process of mathing a scarf, actually: [link] (just because it looks amusing).
I don't have the right sized needles and it's a bit skinny. I'm using Red Heart yarn (which I don't think you liked too much) in "watercolor".. purple, blue, green, + a bit of yellow. I'll post a pic here when I'm finished and if you like it you can have it. I also want to make arm warmers (pink & black stripe... don't have enough purple or I would def make you a black & purple pair)

Talk about dedication! This came out beautifully, and I really like that you've used the darker raspberry shade here - gives it a lot more dimension than the average all-pastel baby blanket, and makes it much more likely to be displayed past the tiny baby point...

Thanks!
It's a double chain edging I found in "Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet" (for some reason, I'm fascinated by edgings, I guess because I never get to make them that often)
