Description
71"x45"Closed ripple crochet (6 dc, inc/dec over 3)
Took much longer to make than it should have due to school and other work.
The detail shot in the corner is better representative of the color scheme.
Don't know what I'm going to do with this yet. It lived on my bed while I was working on it and I got used to having it there. On the other hand, I might donate it (Project Linus or Warm Up America ). We'll see.
Anything else you want to know about this, just ask. I'm too tired to remember all that I wanted to put here.
Haha.. I photographed the WS w/o realizing it. Oh well... it's not that different and I'm sure most people not familiar with crochet wouldn't even notice it.
I give #dAKnitters and #ArtisanCraft permission to post this.

I love the colours of this - purple and green is my favourite colour combination The addition of the pale blue makes it lovely and fresh too.

Wow, I just learned how to knit last month, and I'm just in the process of making a scarf. Crocheting is next on my list.
This is fantastic! How long did it take you?

Thanks
It's hard to say how long it took since I was taking classes while I made it and didn't have time for much besides homework I completed it over the course of a few months, but I guess if I had worked on this for a little bit every day, I could've finished it in one month.

I love the color scheme! A friend of my moms made one for me with a similar pattern, it was just dark purple, light purple and white. Looks very nice!

Is that why you have "purple" in your username
Color schemes using different shades of the same color are always classic--you can't go wrong

Afghan! I'm glad this is in bold patterns - In my opinion that's the best thing about afghans, even if they're done in more muted tones (but I like the colors you've used here) they usually have a bold pattern.
Can't really critique much seeing as I've only just started with crochet. It looks good to my inexperienced eye, though. Your stitches are even, your pattern is regular. Looks like your edges are straight. :shrugs: Looks good to me.

Yay! Advanced crit.! --on more than just the colors!
Now that that's out of the way:
yes! Bold colors or patterns or shapes are awesome. I love a good, warm fleece blanket as much as the next person, but they all come in the same texture and shape, relying solely on colors to make them unique. But crochet... the possibilities are endless
Shhh... don't tell, but the sts aren't even. If you look closely enough (at the real thing, if not in the pic) you can tell when I was crocheting through the stress of due dates and exams--those are a bit smaller. The pattern, though, was easy to keep regular: if I made a mistake, I found out about it in the next row when the sts didn't line up properly. Ripples are great like that
Will you be posting your crocheted stuff in your gallery? I only saw metal work (which I *have* to go through someday when I have more time... amazing stuff).

Ah, probably be posting pictures of the scarf I'm working on now. It'll involve both thread and enameled copper chain.
Thank you, I'm glad you like the metal work, though I dunno about amazing. The chainmail's ok. ^_^;;

I love the colours, too... and what I love on crochet is exactly the fact wrong side doesn't look much different from the other (is it called "right side"?)

..and it is called the "right side." That's one of the things that bugs me so much about knitting: the RS and WS often look so different. Sometimes it can work (ribbing is an excellent example) but other times it just looks odd to me (like for cables).

Real pretty!! I've crocheted a blanket similar to that... Maybe I should take a picture of it and post it.
Gosh.. Don't blankets take just about FOREVER to finish? Mine took me a coupla months.

And blankets do take forever.. or a season at least. This one took me all summer, another one I made took me all of last Autumn.. crazy.

Hehe... But I keep procrastinating.. I wonder if I'll ever get a picture taken of it. I'll try though!
Yeah.. But blankets are fun, 'cause you use them frequently. Very practical, unlike say.. a hat. People don't wear hats everyday, do they?

And I doubt knitting or crocheting is much more mentally taxing than making hook rugs once you get the hang of it... they're mostly just mindless and relaxing repetition.

Perfect colors for my dorm too, you have good taste! I love this, knitting or crocheting a blanket is my goal, but i'm still too indimidated by the patterns to try. This is absolutely *beautiful* though.

flutterbyfae In reply to Shame00 [2006-08-03 02:50:20 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much!
After checking out your gallery, I have to say that if you can make nonrectangular objects like hats, you have no need to be intimidated by blankets. You don't have to start out with a really complicated pattern- all knit or all double crochet will make just as warm and cozy a blanket (and this blanket is actually just dc with regular increases and decreses).
