Description Heh. First tutorial - for me and for the background I'm working on. It doesn't cover Photoshop basics, so you do need to know that first. Otherwise, it's quite easy.

This one covers how I did the tree. It's done with a tablet, but with some patience, it can be done with a mouse!
Throughout the process, I worked with a speckled brush, or one of Photoshop's charcoal brushes (just pick any speckly-textury looking one to your liking). And layerrrrrrssss... If you're not sure what you're doing, copy or make a new layer!

Still, use references when doing backgrounds. I'm using quite a few myself. It helps to see how light gets affected, etc.

Next... I think it'll be the sky and clouds, it's a bit shorter (I think) so maybe I'll add the vengeful grass as well.

Any comments and/or questions are welcome!

I love this tutorial, just instead of "Drawing" with the eraser I actually take the color of the base and draw it on in a new layer, so if I decide to edit the bark texture a bit I wont screw up all my lines. Same effect with less risk!

Ahhh... that makes good sense! I suppose if one wants to change the base colour then hue/saturation could work or just ctrl+click on the layer image to select only the lines... Thank you for your input

I'm glad you like the tutorial!

Simple yet looks really good. Works in sai too, with a brush at about 30% density with the spread texture.

What size paper do you use? (For like width and height) I have Adobe Photoshop 8.0 and can never find a big enough paper kind of thing. ._.

I try to go bigger than my screen size, mostly something like 3000 by 2000 pixels , 300pdi.
