Description
"Do I Need a Jacket?"Because there aren't enough Rainmeter weather skinsUpdate in progress of the old "Do I Need a Jacket ?" skin.
(Last updated 10 April 2016)
Improvements thus far:
The latest version uses Weather.com's wxdata feed - you will need a Weather.com location code.
The code can be found in the URL on the forecast page for your location on Weather.com, using jsmorley 's WXDataWeather skin , or via http://wxdata.weather.com/wxdata/search/search?where=YOUR_LOCATION.
A fix for the old version, which used a Yahoo! weather feed, can be found here: forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.…

Hello!
First of all, wow! Except for the fact that the skin is simply amazing, you are so willing to help and respond anyone who had a question about how to change things on the skin, which is really amazing as well. (not many people are that willing to help others)
Sooo, I kind of wanted to ask something as well. I would like to know how to solve a problem there is with the exact temperature and with the time!
Right now, the time in my country is 21.10 (9.10 pm) but the temperature at the skin says "8.48pm EET" Also, the temperature in my region (based on google: www.google.gr/search?q=tempera… ) is 17 Celcius but the one on the skin says "13 C". That's some difference there.
Do you know what might be causing the problem?
I did put my region here: woeid.rosselliot.co.nz/lookup/… and for some reason it shows two results (but they both have the same temperature). I tried both WOEID either way, but the problem persists. Nonetheless, the TIME in the woeid site is correct (but the time on the skin is not).
Do you know what might be causing the problem?
Either way, once again, awesome skin!

Hi tak1n-advantageOf-it ,
I'm glad you like the skin! Unfortunately I don't have much time to work on these anymore so it isn't updated much and I don't check comments here very often either... but I try.
The time in the skin tooltip is the last time the data source was updated. The skin is set to check for updates every 15 minutes, but the data source it is parsing only updates every so often (and usually much less often then every 15 minutes).
I am less sure about the temperature difference. It looks like that Google search is pulling the current temperature from Weather.com, and I believe that Yahoo's API (which is what this skin parses) gets info from Weather.com as well. So I don't have an explanation for that. At the time I am writing this, when I compare Google with the skin and woeid site, it's only off by 1 degree in either Celsius or Fahrenheit (so Celsius must be rounded off).
So I don't have a solution for you, but I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Hey! Thanks for responding despite your limited time.
The temperature was my fault after all... I had mistaken the yahoo and weather.com codes (but it took me a few days to figure it out, eh...)...
The timing is still off, but what you say does make some sense... Oh well. It is still a very beautiful skin so I'll keep it despite the timing flow (the temperature is fine now anyway).
Well, whatever's keeping you busy in life, I hope it's something good!
Thank you again for making this skin. Enjoy life!

When I hover over the bottom line it displays "Conditions for" and the correct location. But the hour indicated is two hours behind what it should be. And the minutes are always "52" (ie "6:52 am EST" when the correct time is "8:00 am EST"up to and including "8:59 am EST").

The time in the tooltip is the timestamp on the data that the skin is receiving from Yahoo! Weather - it may just be that it's not being updated very often on the API end. For my location I find that it's sometimes only about once per hour.

On the 1.0 I could only use it in the UK, and when I came to Portugal it wouldn't work.
Now I tried the 2.0 and I can't use UK nor Portugal :/

Interesting... sorry to hear that. Does Yahoo provide weather data for those locations? Is the skin generating any errors in the Rainmeter log?

XxputxX In reply to FlyingHyrax [2014-11-21 22:49:49 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it does. I'm using it for another weather skin.
The log only shows this: NOTE (01:53:25.575) DINAJ2\dinaj.ini: Refreshing skin
It's not THAT bad that I can't use it. I'll be back to the UK in 1 month, so I'll use 1.0 in there.

Hm, nothing in the log means that it isn't a parsing error... would you mind sending me the WOEID location codes you use, so I can try to reproduce the problem on my system?

Sure. 743649 for Portugal and 34358 for UK.

Hmmm. Both of those work okay for me. Something very weird is going on here. Can you elaborate at all on how the skin behaves for you/what exactly breaks? (I understand it might just be sitting there doing nothing and there isn't much to say about that, but since I can recreate the problem on my end it's pretty hard to figure out what's going on...)

There's really nothing to explain, it just does nothing, like if I didn't even give it a code. It's ok, It's a problem om my end. There's this girl in a forum from my country that uses it, and she told me to update to 2.0 to fix it, but that didn't work. I've also had problems with other skins that fetch the same data as this one, so It's definetly something wrong on my computer. Oh well, nothing I can't live without XD
Thanks for your concern anyways. I'll still recommend your skin to other people, like I did in the past.

Well, that's kind of a bummer... I'm sorry you can't use the skin and I don't like leaving problems unsolved, but if you're okay with it then I'm okay with it.

Well, what I like about this skin is the idea of telling me whether I need to take on jacket/coat or not. Another thing is size control with scrolling. It is really convenient. And of course setting align from context.
Maybe you could add settings panel for configuring all the the other stuff like switching to Celsius or Fahrenheit and setting up starting points of telling of taking on jacket/coat (basically changing jacket_temp= and coat_temp= ). In your place I would add it. I like configuration tools
What I am misunderstanding is the difference between jacket and coat. Maybe it is because I am not native English speaker and in my sense they are same. Therefore, I checked my vocabulary (not google translate of course) and it says that coat and jacket are pretty synonyms. So, I totally confused here. Could you say what I should wear when it is light wind and what I should wear when it is hard snow?

Thanks for your feedback! I can certainly see the appeal of having a configuration UI. Often I don't include config UIs because they are so complicated to write that it seems like it isn't worth it for a few simple settings, but I'll definitely think about it.
Generally a jacket is thinner/lighter and a coat is heavier - so jacket for wind and coat for snow. I'm not aware of any regional variations on that, but it's definitely possible, so I might have to explore this more. (If it could be a source of confusion for a lot of people then I'll try to find a way to make the skin settings more clear.)

Thanks for clarifying about wear.
You are right. Configurator for simple settings might be unnecessary.

Thanks for the offer FabioSan1 ! Built-in translations would be cool, but for the time being I'm still not sure how the final logic will all fit together.

I've been pretty busy with lots of other stuff so I'm not sure when v2 will be done; in the meantime feel free to try it out as-is (it's quite functional) and let me know of any suggestions/issues.

Maybe a size editor and left, center and right one?
Doesn't work with my curent setup (huge clock).

The version uploaded on the 18th has these (I think - if I uploaded the right file )
You can scroll the mousewheel over the skin to change the size (or edit a variable by hand), and I added some context menu options that change the alignment.

I didn't dive in the file that much, might give it a go but a menu would be superb.

I've just been adding bits here and there when I have time so it might be a while before it's done; in the mean time feel free to try the in-progress version as-is and let me know of any suggestions/issues.
