Description The first in a series of twelve, featuring the Gods of the Greek Pantheon.

"I begin to sing about Poseidon, the great god, mover of the earth and fruitless sea, god of the deep who is also lord of Helicon and wide Aegae. A two-fold office the gods allotted you, O Shaker of the Earth, to be a tamer of horses and a saviour of ships!" -Homer
Poseidon was the god of the sea, as well as horses and earthquakes. The son of Cronus and Rhea, he is one of the six siblings who eventually "divided the power of the world" and formed the original pantheon.

Sailors prayed to Poseidon for a safe voyage, sometimes drowning horses as a sacrifice. In his benign aspect, Poseidon created new islands and offered calm seas. When offended or ignored, he struck the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes, drownings and shipwrecks. The symbols associated with Poseidon include: dolphins, tridents, and three-pronged fish spears.

Very simple. But it works, and somehow it still represents poseidon... Anyway, it's just a nice, calm pic. Great work!

I'm in lvoe with the colorus.
the aquablue and green really sets it off.
It's quite contrasting too, from the silver which suggests metal or technology.
beautiful!

Thanks. The colors aren't my usual favorites, but after starting the piece I really warmed up to them. I think prolonged exposure to dA is starting to push me towards green hues.

I edited the description to add links to the high-resolution wallpapers of this piece, in both FS and WS ratios for your monitor-viewing pleasure. Look for a collage of the various stages this piece went through in my scraps, in a day or so.

I should also add commentary is both welcome and desired.
