Description Dang, it's hard to pose pelts in a natural posture... This is my Red Fox pelt, Miette, curled up into a ball on top of my coyote rug. Funny thing is my dog does the exact same thing, only he's a lot bigger.

Fox pelt acquired from a taxidermist
Coyote rug rescued from a thrift store

The neck color is just gorgeous, and those little ears ;n; I saw you skin and preserve other pelts yourself; where did you learn?

I live in an area with about 8 live foxes, and down one of the back roads here there was a hit fox. Had I known anything about tanning their hides [and had I not had an over-reactive parent], I would have gotten him and fixed up his pelt myself.

I use Amy's tutorial from taxidermy.net. And wow, I would love to find a roadkill fox someday.

do your dogs go crazy when they see/smell these things?

my alsatian wolfdog does that with my fox tail.

He's curious about them but after some sniffs, he either goes on his way or lies down on it and goes to sleep.

Wait...Kruger doesn't eat your variouse pelts and bones? I mean, Kai doesn't, but Snickers defenatly does.

Kruger's actually really good about it. The only time I had trouble with him was when I had cleaned up the various pieces of a fish skeleton and left it outside to dry. He had gone outside afterward and found the bones. I was inside at that point but saw him out the window and caught him in the act. What he had been doing was taking a single piece of bone from the paper towels they were laying on, retreating out to the yard, and lying down to chew through it before going back for another!

I was really upset with him then, but looking back on it, it's really kind of funny now.

lol! Being really careful, huh. Snickers just tears 'em up. If your gonna do the act, better do it dirty, I suppose.

Kruger's never been like that (unless it had to do with removing a sealed bag of beef jerky from a backpack, shredding both the backpack and the bag of jerky in the process).

He's always been a rather "dainty" thief. There was one occasion when we had a tray of little cucumber sandwiches made with the mini pieces of bread and when we left the house that day, we left it out on the top of the stove. When we got back we found that the saran wrap over the top of it had been delicately lifted back and all pushed over to one side. The majority of the sandwiches were no longer sandwiches. I think there were a few of them left on one side of the box but the other side of the box had a neat, tidy pile of just the bread pieces where Kruger had left them after eating out the cucumber sauce middles!

Oh, wow. That is one skilled dog! My friends dog once stole/ate an entire jelly-ish sheet cake, and the only evidence was little red paw prints leading to a very full dog. You need to leave something like surveillance cameras up to catch him in the act lol. He sounds so funny doing his nice little steals*is running out of ideas on how to say that without totally confusing you*

Did that poor dog throw up at all?

SpiritDragonWolf In reply to FossilFeather [2009-07-28 01:10:51 +0000 UTC]

Naw, we guessed she has an iron stomach, because she's managed to eat an onion, several small packages of M&M's, and some sandwiches without getting sick. And she stole them all
