Description
My new female coyote pelt. She was found as roadkill and I skinned her and took her through the tanning process so her skin is now a nice soft leather made to last for years to come. She's quite the looker and I compliment her almost every time I come into the room or walk past her.
Disclaimer: I did not kill this animal! It was found already dead on the side of the road where it would have simply rotted away to nothing. If you do not like what you see, don't look at it! Also, don't bother wasting your time leaving rude or pointless comments here, they will be ignored.

Holy crap this is a gorgeous tan. Tons of props for keeping her face neat and aligned, it really makes her look even smoother and nicer. Plus wow! So little fur damage for a road kill! You're really lucky, Sparrow is a beautiful girl. I hope she lasts many many years with a beautiful look like this one!

oh my GOD this face is absolutely stunning! She looks in perfect condition, too! what method do you use to tan? I'm starting to do my own tanning, on smaller animals from roadkill... unless I get lucky and find such a gorgeous yote as this one! <33

I can't get over it! She is perfect <3 I totally understand why you love her, she must feel very special for you, I mean since you have both skinned AND tanned her

Yeah, that kind of lets you get really close and personal with them once you have been through all that with the pelt.

Aww, I want to give her a giant pat on the head! Her nose looks moist and real... Good job tanning! Is her tan hard and crispy(like when you tan a mouse), or is it soft and moldable like a regular tan?

Wow, she is so much more beautiful than I'd have thought!!! I really, really, love the colour and the (look of the) texture of her fur. Also her perfectly flat face is wonderful! *Looks at Skoll's screwed up one a lil shamefully*
You did a simply wonderful job. Congratz!

It's sooo much easier to shape the ears and face when everything's completely wet. Looking back on it, I probably should have soaked all my other pelts' heads for a lot longer than I did. It would have given me much more freedom in getting their ears just right. Instead, I only got the ends of the ears soaked through and didn't change any of the base which really dictates a lot of what the finished ear is going to look like.

I want to try Besses ears, just the cartilage and not the fur itself. Do you think this is unadvised?
I see what you mean, and I'll take careful note for future pelts. So whats wrong with thier current earsies?

FossilFeather In reply to Featherologist [2009-12-04 17:58:53 +0000 UTC]
Eep, I'm not sure if I'd do that since she's an antique. If you did, you'd have to dampen a less noticeable piece of her skin and see if it deteriorates. Are her ears turned or do they still have the cartilage and ear butts present?
Their ears are just a little uneven. It's nothing big, I'm just picky.

Featherologist In reply to FossilFeather [2009-12-04 18:24:18 +0000 UTC]
Its all cartilage, and I can't see the cartilage being something that'd fall apart... I'll just try one small earsie tip first, yuss?

FossilFeather In reply to Featherologist [2009-12-04 23:33:25 +0000 UTC]
The cartilage does eventually get old and crackly (my serval) but is still fairly sturdy. If you do try this with your foxy, just be very careful about the skin covering the cartilage. I have to be careful with how I handle the ears and watch for it possibly coming loose or tearing on the fresh pelts. x.x

Featherologist In reply to Lynatic [2009-12-01 17:33:27 +0000 UTC]
Sort of. It wont stay a whole bird in my freezer, I'll take it out and skin in. It was brought home by my cat.
But I do collect pelts and feathers and bones yuss.

I'm sure she enjoys every minute of time you spend with her and each comment.
I can't get over how luscious her fur is and how pretty she is. I'd never be able to stop petting or staring at her pelt. Tehe, and for some reason, the way she is looking now, she seems to be very cheeky. Prolly just my imagination though.
