This is my upload for Ophelia's birthday. It is the ending scene to an animated sequence which goes along with the lyrics to Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk. The best scene? Maybe it's the part where "And you can sky-rocket away from me / And never come back if you find another galaxy" plays.

Ophelia, I want to thank you for being such a friend to me. Ever since I sent you a note back in the end of 2010, it's been wonderful being in communication with you. In the beginning of 2011, you got involved with the story project by writing your own chapter. I had never imagined what it would be like to read the writing of someone else embarking on a plotline I had imagined and shared with them. Your writing was of a style I could not even approach with my own efforts- it was clearly a skill you had learned at a very high level. I'd be delighted to write again with you, if you ever have any ideas you'd like to try.

And then there was summer 2011, that turned into fall. And I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in an iScribble adventure with you. The scene we made, the view from the cliff over the rest of the forested valley- it was so scenic as a digital image, a "postcard from far away" as you named it after the Coldplay song. I cherish the memory of spending hours with you, creating a scene for our characters to share while having conversation. You know, I don't think I've told you this before, but the morning I got up early to draw with you, I found a rainbow visible through my window as the session concluded. And I went outside with my camera and found it was a double rainbow. It was a reminder, that in you I have found a real friend.

It's so nice knowing I have someone I can talk to, open up to, share my life with, and in return offer my advice and symbolic metaphors, with both my humor and concern. 10^7 bioluminescent organisms, remember? (Hint: Owl City, we were talking about lyrics). I cannot say that anything else in my life equals the privilege of knowing you as a friend, being able to share my music, my dreams, my journal, or just my everyday occurrences with someone who cares as much as you. As Ronnie once wrote in a letter to Keilidh, it's amazing that we have persisted against all the odds for this long in order to find each other. Something about us knowing each other must be "meant to be".

So happy birthday, Ophelia! You are a light in so many others' lives, but today is the day we all want to wish you the best.
