My pigs years ago... "Ready Wilson?" "Ready Wendell." "One... two... SQUEE!" (crash!) "We did it!"

No matter how heavy a ceramic dish I bought the two little boars would work together to flip thier dinner dish...

True
Still
How could we force them to be hungry enough to eat broken hay? That's terrible!

Hahaha! My piggie does this all the time...he'll flip over his bowl until all the food gets mixed in with his bedding and cedar chips and stuff, then he's just like, "Well, now it's GONE FOREVER!"

Mine don't get that many hay, but I give them plenty of foraging (wheatgrass, lemongrass, cornleaves, hinojo) They eat their pellets from a tray, and will PEE on them if they fall outta the tray, so I secure the trays to the cage with sticks and rubber bands
Do your piggies store food? Mine carefully hide food into their hideys to save for laters - only for me to find them moulding... and being forced to throw it away

nope - my piggies don't really have any place to hide anything. they'll bring their treats to a place they feel safe, but that's about it all my piggies get are pellets, hay, and carrots, so there's also not much to hide.

Buy them their own fridge (lol, I wish I could XD)

Mine are quite territorial... so each flees with food, hides it and protects it with chattering teeth.
Well... boys will be boys always XD

Hmmm... carrots can cause betacaroten overdrive. I try to give them every other day, because I mix a lot of veggies for them to chew on. You should vary a tad their food. Care to look at this list of plants? [link]

I bet the girls will love at least some of these

This one is the BEST page ever for us guinea owners, it has saved my kids's lives over and again

Lol, my rabbit is fine with whatever. He'll eat it off the ground, in a box, in a tray, he doesn't care. Food is food. We found him in our garden in the winter. He's really tame, probably from another family and escaped or set free. So he's really human friendly but not pet picky. He'll eat anything and everything anywhere.

My teacher's guinea pigs, they're fine with hay on the ground because at first they didn't have a tray.

My other teacher's mice. They love hay and get a little of it to nibble on. They don't care.

(Same mouse teacher. Also has chinchillas) Teacher's chinchillas. Oh man. They refuse to eat any hay that touches the ground. They'll play in it and roll around in it but never pick it up and eat. Then the pile in the tray, they'll run over and eat and scatter it then jump around for more in the tray to waste.

My bunny, S'Mores, doesn't mind either - she'll eat anything If I put the hay back in their hay rack, they'll eat it though. They're just the pickiest little piggies

it really does amaze me how picky some pets can be, as if they have a choice of what we feed them lol

My gerbil is the same way tips the food dish over on purpose, and won't eat the food at all after that :T

Foxy-Sketches In reply to Dib-the-survivor [2012-12-05 08:50:17 +0000 UTC]

i had to get an attached food dispenser finally for my piggies cuz they'd do that with their food. it was costing me way too much money, so now everything of theirs is attached to the cage walls lol.

Dib-the-survivor In reply to Foxy-Sketches [2012-12-05 12:09:34 +0000 UTC]

I eventually took the food dish away and just started putting the food on the bedding (it would have ended up there anyway XD). I hope that's not being too mean to him though. I was just sick of filling the dish only to have it spread everywhere! lol
