Description This is my first actual attempt at a real drawing with my new tablet. It was a rather quick work, more practice than something meant to be extremely impressive. It is connected to the "big project" alluded to in my previous journal entry. Obviously it would be the head.

I like how the eyes turned out on this particular attempt the most. That dark ring around them is supposed to attract light to aid in vision. And yes, I know I messed up on the shading where the head meets the neck. Oops. But, live and learn.

Those things on the head that look like mouths are not mouths. Though they share certain characteristics with a mouth. I will give more information on the various odd points of it's anatomy when I submit the full creature.

The spiny things on the top half of the head do serve a purpose.

---EDIT---
Moved it to scraps.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Wacom! I have never been able to achieve pencil effects with mine comparable to traditional methods, but I love it for application of color, light, shadow, etc. (even down to a single pixel level).
One of the set-up adjustments that has worked well for me is the mapping feature in the Wacom Properties.
My tablet is only a 4"x5", but I have narrowed the actual working area down to about the size of a business card. This means that I can reach any point on my screen without moving my wrist all over the tablet surface. It may sound counter-intuitive, but it actually allows for much tighter control of stroke direction, pressure, etc.
Best of luck...
