Description
Every year I make at least one gift by hand. This year I was given a DNA kit for my birthday and found our family history is drastically different from what I had always been told. The history of our family was tracked back to old irish coasts and norse descendents. This fascinated my kids and my oldest son especially. So this year I made a viking bearded axe, etched and burned with a high carbon steel head and a hickory handle. Then aged and worn to look older as if it might have been in a few fights.
Now is a perfect time with the release of the new assassin's creed valhalla, a game my whole family likes, even the wife and she's not much of a gamer.

Burned into the handle is an old norse saying,

Hvars þú böl kannt,
kveð þú þér bölvi at
ok gef-at þínum fjándum frið.

Where you recognise evil, speak out against it, and give no truces to your enemies.
