Honestly, I highly disagree. Plenty of sites are meant for kids under 13, some aren't. What about Animal Jam? Yep, meant for kids and teens. Club Penguin? Same. Toontown? it shut down, but totally kid friendly.
Also, what if they need the internet for school purposes?
I'd say that you'd have to have to be a little more specific. Kids shouldn't be on places like Facebook and Twitter, that's for sure.

11 and 12 year olds aren't kids, they're pre-teens. I started doing PG-13 when I was 11, because I was mature enough for it and in the age group. Fuck COPPA!

But really, only let them on children intended sites. Those are safe for them. You don't want pedophiles or for them to run into bullies or inappropriate content.
Remember: it will be your fault if they run into something nasty if you don't supervise them or use a filter.

Wow, isn't it ironic you told me to only let them on sites pedophiles target the most! In this cruel world, regular websites are safer. Besides, I'd only let 'em use advanced and/or adult stuff once they turn eleven. They will be young teens at that age. As teens, I will have taught them to fight bullies no matter the threats hey throw. If you wanna survive, you must adapt to the situation. Let your instincts guide you, don't surrender. They will learn to defend but not offend and to fight for their lives. Cyber bullies will be nothing but petty bluffers behind a screen in their minds. Pedophiles will be reported to authorities if possible, if not they will be ignored and just reported to the site. This is some of my plans for my future children, such as two I will name Jack and Aster.
PS: Ever heard of Firewall and TrendMicro Virus Protection? Yeah...no viruses 90% of the time.

Actually, I have never encountered a pedophile on a children's site. And neither have any of my friends. They're pretty rare from what I've experienced. But they're not impossible, so just make sure they're careful if they get into games like Animal Jam or Club Penguin.

Yes, you should teach them how to defend themselves from bullies. But make sure they aren't bullying back.

I do remeber the good ol' times when I was on the internet for the first time, I was around 6-7 years old that time, I just use it to visit websites like YouTube and... I don't remember most of the sites name LOL
But the internet is for everyone, it just depends on how mature you are on other sites like DA for example, there are some immature people in here who leaked their real age but not all of them is immature, there are some who's still honest about their age but they act mature and it's kinda makes me sad since they got banned.Β
And I found DA Β when I was around 10-11 years old, try to make an account using my old e-mail but I can't since I have to veriffy first and I forget my password to my e-mail and finnaly git a new e-mail and made this account. BTW i'm 14 years old.
