Description
This was originally supposed to be for a contest, but since I finished it so late, I decided to submit it to DA as a standalone art piece. This was not easy to make. I wanted to practice on drawing texture, specifically on animals. And whats a better way to do it than with cartoon animals! This is why the background, as you can see, is a lot less detailed than them. It probably took me about 4-8 hours doing this, mostly on refining the animals themselves (I'm not good on keeping track of time while I draw.) Overall, I'm pretty happy. A good break on my usual outlined style; it's always great to try something new!
Anyways, have a good winter everybody! ;D

This piece looks so deliciously warm! The color of the background (and of fur and feathers) is pretty cold, but their fluffyness, expressions and the light of the fire are warming my heart
The beak of the owl is probably the only thing that looks a little bit weird, being a little tilted, but it's almost ignorable since he's adorable anyway! Also, the texture of the owl's feathers is very well done. I love how their look, so cartoon-y, it's completed by almost realistic fur and feathers.

Your comment makes me even warmer! Thank you for the kind words! I'm not so great when it comes to face alignment, though I'll make sure I improve on it the next time I draw something similar. Im happy the feathers really stood out to you; to be honest it was the part that really took the most time for me. Again, thank you for the feedback!

Everything looks so soft and fuzzy! Great detail on the owl feathers, holy cow! You also did really well on the highlights.
The beak is tilted a little more toward the viewer than the rest of the face, and the middle guy's snout looks a little squished, but neither are so pronounced that it really detracts from the picture.
You did a great job!

It's a bit of a habit for me to give small noses honestly XD
Though Im happy that the lighting and textures gave the picture more justice
I'll make sure I get the perspective for the bird right the next time I draw something similar
Anyways, thank you for the feedback! You really made my day with your comment

Oh why this is indeed quite nicely painted! The brushwork you've performed with the fur and feathers is simply wonderful not to mention quite pleasing to the eye- Shame you missed the contest deadline, I'm sure this could have scored very high if not on top for it's creativity and quality- (A set of cartoon animals in the snow around a campfire in the pristine blue night, how original for only the theme "Winter with Friends"! ) Stupendous work!

This caught my eye immediately, and I love it! The shading and lighting are spectacular, and the fire in the center really draws the eye where it's supposed to!I do agree the senkkobyte, the owl's beak looks a bit off, but there are so many good elements to this drawing it really catches the eye. I'd love to see more like this!

I'm glad you really liked it! Perspective and alignment is something I really need to improve on. I tried a lot with the fire and the light reflects on the animals, so I'm happy the lighting really caught your eye. Anyways, thank you for commenting!

I think you really did good with the texture with these animals. Solid color works while holding onto that cartoonish look. The shadings are smoothly done and the background actually fits right with the scene.
There is only a small issue w/the beak of the bird. It looks odd, probably because it looks kind of hidden(?). You should've probably drawn more of the beak rather than covering it with more feathers to its side. Also, the alignment is a little off with the way the face is turned. The way you draw the beak is most likely for sideward turned faces.
Still, i think you nailed it good with what you are trying to practice! A little more and i'm sure you'll master it. Good work!

Thanks for the criticism! I knew something was off when I was finished drawing the bird, but I just didn't know what. I'll keep this in mind the next time I draw something similar, especially the face alignment.
