what the heck. are you using gimp 1 or 2.2? cuz here in 2.6, there is NO mathmap filter.

Just came across this tutorial. I thought you'd like to know that it seems the links to the NASA images you posted in steps 2 & 4 are no longer working. Here's the working links to those images:

Also, with that second image, the land drawings on the top left corner that you circled in red are not there in the full size image, so no need to mess with trying to get rid of them.

Looks ok, but you may want to go back and proof read to get rid of all those typos.
Also, it's spelled Planet, not Planete.

I'm sorry for my english,i'm french,i made it to help as they asking me to do it from gimp users group.And after many hours,i finaly finish the tutorial,and was so long to do,i take a break for a while.But i agree i will be back to make it more better.
