Description
Spotify removed the important local API some time ago. This is why all skins broke.
For now we are using a different approach which - unfortunately - needs some tweaking. I hate dependencies but this is the way to go.
It gets harder and harder to keep this skin alive. But it is alive. It is 4 years old by now and still working flawlessly.
The following steps are MANDATORY for a working skin, unfortunately. Read all the instructions first, please!
0. Delete any old version of the old "Spicetify Rainmeter Skin" if you used this skin before.
1. Follow these instruction carefully (5 commands one after an other into PowerShell + Comprehensive Guide available): pastebin.com/87muQXZ2
1.1 If an error occurs at the beginning you need to enable Internet Explorer 11 within the Windows settings and start it once for a properly working PowerShell.
1.2 If an error occurs saying something about a backup, just delete "backup" from the last line "spicetify backup apply" --> "spicetify apply" and press ENTER again
1.3 If an error occurs at the end simply reinstall Spotify as suggested by the script.
2. Install Spotify Control Rainmeter skin.
3. Play a song in Spotify and benefit.
4. After every Spotify client update you need to re-do step #1 (entering all 5 PowerShell commands again)
Features
Custom Right-Click-Menu for resizing (Fully scalable due to vector graphics)
Playback commands for free and premium users with on- and offline Spotify
Completely hidden when Spotify is closed

The new Spotify Web API does not provide any possibility to display local covers stored in the mp3-tag :/

There was a version without cover but it was too hard to maintain two skins so I decided to drop the no cover version. 2.7 was the last version having the minimal skin as well but it should be broken by now. :/

I'm having a weird bug.
Basically, seemingly at random, the skin stops getting the album art. The Cover.png in the files is the last working cover, and the skin displays Default.png. In the logs I get "Unable to download album art to: (file location). I used your skin as an inspiration for my own, and the issue is present in both yours and mine. I have no idea what's wrong. It also seems to randomly fix itself, possibly based on what playlist I'm playing/if I'm watching an ad or not. I don't have enough proof to say comfortably what is causing it to break and fix. I've tried unloading/reloading the skin, reinstalling spotify, disabling all the extra stuff Spicetify adds (so I only have what is needed), restarting my PC, and basically everything I could think of. Thanks for your help, and when I could get it working, your skin was awesome

Random bugs are the worst bugs. I remember having this issue as well but with the old approach and the old API.
Since v4.0 I did not experience that rare bug again. You are mentioning ads, so you aren't using adfree Spotify Premium? Maybe it has to something with this fact because as I recall the Spotify Online API likes premium users more than freemium users. That may break the skin from time to time but since it isnt reproduceable it is really hard to track the bug down.

I'm not quite sure if it is related to that since I had the same issue a long time ago
If it happens more frequently to you please report it back, though! Thanks!

Hey, I don't know if it's only me but I also use Spotify for some custom music, and even after hours of giving them album covers, the skin doesn't detects them
Spotify does tho, and it's kinda sad to me that I spent all this time for what seems like nothing
Anyone knows how to fix that ? qwq

Sorry to hear that
But since Spotify dropped support for the old local API we are forced to use the new Web API which doesn't detect local covers :/

Hey bud... i can't figure out if it is yet possible to drag the knob and change the timer in spotify with it. If it is, would you mind telling me where i can enable it, if not: do you think it's possible and not too time consuming to update the skin and make it work ? I love it but it's a feature i really miss using the skin. Otherwise keep it up

fuckyeahlucas can you update yout skin please ? cause Spotify App got updated and we need to use the recent version of spicetify to not get ui bugs so may you consider doing so ?
π: 0 β©: 1
fuckyeahlucas In reply to alioso [2018-11-14 21:43:11 +0000 UTC]
It works fine if you disable every customization option within Spicetify except the WebPlaying Companion in the Extension tab. I wouldnt use any of these customizations either because Spotify is pushing updates quiet recently breaking the UI as you mentioned. So disable every Spicetify customization - at least the UI ones - and you should be good to go. I had bugs with newer versions than 1.7.4 of Spicetify. This is why I hardcoded the 1.7.4 version and not the latest one.

After some testing I decided to "allow" Spicetify 1.7.7, nevertheless I still recommend to disable every change except the WebPlayingCompanion to achieve maximum compatibility.

Love the skin! Is it possible to make it the same size as your "Cloudy | Rainmeter Skin v1.8 | UPDATE" Small size (0.8).

Right-click the skin and select 0.8? Or do you mean the exact same size? If you want the latter one simply change the SCALE value in the .ini file accordingly

Hi there, is there a way to remove all the buttons below the album cover to show only the cover when the song is playing like how it is when the song is paused? If so, what codes should I modify? Thanks.

Is there any way to stop it from collapsing when paused? That is, is there a way that, when the song is paued, the track info remains rather than disappearing?
Thanks.

try with this codeΒ
[MeasureState]
Measurelugin
Plugin=WebNowPlaying
PlayerType=State
IfCondition=MeasureState = 1
IfTrueAction=[!HideMeterGroup Top][!ShowMeterGroup Bottom]
IfCondition2=MeasureState = 2

Hey, when I load the player it is completely invisible. I can't see it anywhere on the desktop. Can you tell me which settings I need to change to make it visible?
Or is this just because I'm using the Win 10 store version of Spotify?

Thanks for commenting!
The mandatory skin in the 1.7.6 version does crash Rainmeter. I changed the text and hope it fits you now. Please use version 1.7.4 of the mandatory Spicetify skin
1. Get the Spicety skin version 1.7.4 from here:
github.com/khanhas/Spicetify/rβ¦
2.
Install the skin, on the skin click on "backup" on the left bottom. The
skin will make a backup of your Spotify installation (the Windows 10
App-Store version of Spotify is not supported).
3. The important part is on the second page of the Extension tab - enable WebPlayingCompanion by clicking on it.
3.1 Everything else is optional. You can customize Spotify to your likings.
If you want to stay stock disable every other option except the
WebPlayingCompanion.
4. Click apply or re-apply. After that you can unload the skin from Rainmeter.
5. Install Spotify Control Skin. Done! Everything should work!
6. After every Spotify client update you need to re-do the steps 2 (backup) to 4
