Description
Starting to organize notes. This will be a form series. I'll get into hybrid form, interlocks and such with step by steps soon. Trying to figure out how to explain some of this stuff. It's easier if I'm actually there. Lemme know if you guys have any specific questions I can address. Hope this helps.Related content

How do show form without making your figures look stiff

I'll have some tuts on that soon. One way is to make sure your forms follow your gesture lines.
Figures tend to stiffen up because the orientation or placement of the form is a little awkward/incorrect. Step 2 is to overcompensate by overshooting the gesture. Once form is added
it will look to be in about the right place.
I'm working on some notes to drawing figures with simple forms. I'll make sure to address
your question
Hope this helps.

Thanks for these notes, they're really helpful. I like the last line, "every line has a buddy". Never thought or knew about it. Will definitely incorporate the buddy system in my drawings for better flow.
My problem with drawing is over thinking or just not simplifying muscles and such. I think too hard about where the muscle connects and how it looks that it looks too stiff and wrong. Of course, I did recently learn anatomy in school, so I'm just trying to incorporate real anatomy more, now that I know.

Cool, thanks for taking the time to reply and making these notes. I will keep in mind what you've just said. Guess I am getting too ahead of myself with crazy realist anatomy that I am ignoring the basics.

Don't worry too much about anatomy at the moment. I was taught to approach drawing is in this order. It's great because if you think you're messing up, you have a checklist to go back on.
1.Lay-in ( This is a 2d idea. This will be the blueprint for your drawing )
a.)GESTURE will give you life and connection
b.)SHAPE will give you body type/ likeness ( It's easier to make forms conform to a shape then for you to model the form to fit the shape; it's also faster )
c.)Proportion will make sure your figure looks human.
2.Form ( This is the 3dimensional aspect of the drawing/painting)
Make sure simple forms are correct and are working together. Are the center lines and corners
in the proper place? Are the interlocks working?
At this point the figure should be solid even without all the anatomy. Make sure the head, torso and leg forms are connected via boxes, cylinders and spheres. Adding a lot of anatomy sometimes flattens the image. Not saying not to learn it. Get comfortable with the ones that effect the major shapes of the figure first. Try not to think of it as anatomy, but form. Mentally this seems to help simplify areas.
3.Lighting Separate light and shadow.
Finally bragging rights/icing: anatomy
Hope this helps I'll get into simple form figures on the next set of notes.

This is great! Have you ever considered doing one on foreshortening? That's the hardest for me. Keeps me from doing action poses.

Thanks. No problem. I think I'll be going into simple form drawing on the next set of notes so I'll make sure to include that.

Lemme know if there are specifics. Also started a head breakdown with multiple approaches all leading to the same results. It's a pick and choose whichever makes the most sense to the individual.
