Description
I was going to ignore this one but for some reason I did it. I'm going to pretend like it's because I want to show off some stuff that could use some more love. (As opposed to just showing off?)I kind of cheated and went with my own square arrangement because I felt like there wasn't any one thing that influenced me The Most, just a lot of different things.
For anyone who cares about the specific influences...
Strangers in Paradise: A good chunk of my art style, particularly inking.
Gold Diggers of 1933: Actually Depression Era musicals in general, but this one is one of my faves. Mostly just influenced my love of 30s fashion and music.
Homestuck: Very recent! I've been studying off of his "Hero Mode" drawings to try to swipe some of the dynamism.
Thieves & Kings: Sort of a general influence during my Formative Years, though I think it also first gave me the idea that people in fantasy stories didn't have to be all high-flown when they spoke.
Phantasy Star 4: This thing keeps leaking into pretty much everything I do, ever. I loved the shit out of this game. Badass ladies, sweet weapons, forgotten ancient technology, magic, eldritch abominations, nifty clothing design... this is pretty much My Game.
Tomb of Dracula: Another source where I shamelessly lift things for dynamism, also for inking inspo. Gene Colan kicks ass.
Akiko: I aspire to one day be able to do sound effects the way Mark Crilley can.
School Rumble: My go-to source for fight scene rendering, which may seem odd, since it's usually a screwball/romantic comedy. But it has some excellent action bits.
Faxanadu: Another game that's just sort of formative for me, and probably paved the way for my love of Silent Hill. I am in love with the "broken down ruins also LIVING ON A GIANT TREE" world design, and the freaky-ass monsters.
Silent Hill: Should be obvious, but yeah, this really kicked off my obsession with horror, which previously I'd ignored because I thought it was all uninteresting slasher things. Amazingly, I discovered that there was this other kind of horror, with creepy things and deep psychology and horrific mutations! And then I did about a jillion fanarts of it.
Tales of Destiny: This is sort of Phantasy Star IV 2.0, in terms of being My Game as well as getting all into all my stuff. I cheerily steal the location ideas from this whenever I feel I can get away with it.
Edward Gorey: Mainly an influence in mood and phrasing things, but I also love his lavish costuming and scenery.
Wandering Star: Another Formative Influence, and one I cribbed a fair amount of design from. Probably also some early character stuff.

Tales of Destiny was what I played when all the cool kids were playing FF7. It had SPRITES! And cool moves! And I could control everyone! Also, talking swords and badass ladies and ANCIENT TECHNOLOGY and also an evil upper class that surrounded the planet with land and drained everyone's energy and also shot the shit out of things with a GIANT LASER-SHOOTING SWORD!!!!
Basically, it is the best game.

I bought the manga for the whole thing on e-bay, I so so understand.
Most amazing game ever. I still love the Priestess with the giant claymore.

Philia is AWESOME. She's like, adorable dainty sheltered girl, WITH THE HUGEST SWORD!
Also the inspect monsters ability, which is the most useful thing.

IT ISN'T OFTEN THAT CHARACTERS ARE BOTH LIKABLE AND INCREDIBLY USEFUL. And yet she is both. ...GDI now I want to replay.
