Description Hey! I got one up! Nothing fancy, but I started basic. I had to figure how exactly to MAKE a tutorial. XD It looks so fancyyy~~ *ish proud of self*

Made With:
- SAI Painter
- Photoshop (for text & arranging)
- Pen Tablet (Graphire 4)

SAI Painter is a gorgeous program that's simple, yet beautiful. You can look it up and try out the trial version, then buy it if you really like it! Mine is bought, and I don't regret a single bit of it. It truly is masterful for linearts and is wonderful for coloring.

But this tutorial should work for any coloring program, as long as you can know your way around your brushes.

-----

Feel free to ask any questions regarding the tutorial, and I'll hopefully be able to help you with any confusion. :3 Comments are grandly appreciated, and if you use this tutorial in the making of your art, link it! I'd love to see anything you've done! <3

Hope it's useful! (in all its silliness >_>...)

Good tutorial, but I can't finish the eye, in the step 7, when you say add shadding and smooth everything. Can you tell me which tool do you use to do that? And another question, Should all the colors be on the same layer?

Thanks, I'm waiting for your answers .

(Sorry for my english)

Fushi-Chou In reply to Ketsuhiro [2012-01-21 19:13:07 +0000 UTC]

Same layer! It's easier to blend colors when you already have colors on the layer. And as for the tool, it's the Watercolor tool in Paint Tool SAI, ooor if you have Photoshop, I believe there's is also a watercolor type brush that will blend easily.

I hope that answers your question! :3

Ketsuhiro In reply to Fushi-Chou [2012-01-21 19:41:22 +0000 UTC]

Ok, another

Well I do this, first I use the bucket to fill the eye, then I do the same you do in step 6 (with the pencil tool), and the problem comes now, Do I have to use the water pencil with the darker color selected?

I do that but I can't darken it. :S

Fushi-Chou In reply to Ketsuhiro [2012-01-21 19:46:11 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you use the watercolor brush on the same layer with a darker color!

What program are you using?

Ketsuhiro In reply to Fushi-Chou [2012-01-21 20:00:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm using Paint Tool Sai but, when I use the watercolor brush with the darker color and I paint it seems that anything happens :S

Maybe my water color tool settings are wrong:

Density: 76
Color blending: 14
Opacity mix: 11
Persistence: 73
Keep opacity (selected)

Thanks a lot for your help!

Fushi-Chou In reply to Ketsuhiro [2012-01-21 21:46:43 +0000 UTC]

I tried out your settings and they work for me... (Although I usually have Density to 100%)

Try a different tool, like the Marker? Or check your tablet settings so that it's not too unsensitive. (Sometimes you have to press hard to get a good mark.)

I hope any of that works! D: otherwise, I don't know what else I can suggest...

Well, this is the last time I bother you , I uploaded a video were you can see what happens to me with the water tool and the marker, (put hd and full screen to see it better )

Here is the link!

Also, I tried to change the sensitivity of the tablet but nothing changes with those tools.

Thanks!

Ahaaaaaaa. I see what you did thar.

First, change the 'Multiply' tab to 'Normal'. That doesn't have much to do with your problem, but you'll be happy you did. (It usually makes the color that'll come out darker than you want it to be)

Second, it's the 'Color Blend' but mostly your 'Smoothing Pres' that are throwing it all off and causing it to just blur and push around. Lower your Color Blend down to a little bit to like 35 so you don't have to press so hard to get the dark color, then lower your Smoothing Pres aaaaaall the way to 25%. If it works, play around with those two settings AND the 'Persistence' setting so you can understand what each of them does for future reference~ (It's hard to explain them, but when you play with it, you should get it~)

Otherwise, just lowering those two and changing the brush mode to 'Normal' should fix your problem! I hope it works~

Ketsuhiro In reply to Ketsuhiro [2012-01-21 20:33:59 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, those are the brush tool settings :S, the water color tool settings are this:

Color blending :100
Opacity mix: 100
Persistence: 80
Keep opacity (selected)
Smooth prs: 56

When I use the water brush tool with those settings I can't get a darker color, it only spreads the other two colors.

Ah ha... (Told you i'd message you again) >.> Sorry for the spam.... but Here it is :3. Hopefully i can master this. But this is much better than how my eyes has been in the past so I'm already making progress :3 thankies

Fushi-Chou In reply to Ostria [2011-12-22 03:29:46 +0000 UTC]

Oooh~ Rainbow eyes! <333 You've got the coloring down so far! I like the brown and green ones best~ And don't be afraid to go darker for the pupil! In real life the pupil is black, and though that doesn't mean it has to be, having a darker center makes the eye stand out more! (Contrasts are important! :3)

I'm glad it's helped you! I wish I could give better help with settings and such, but I sadly wouldn't know where to start... >_> (But you seem very well on your way regardless!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ostria In reply to Fushi-Chou [2011-12-22 04:26:01 +0000 UTC]

I see, so the pupil and the top part should be about the same darkness and everything else relatively lighter......... Ahhhh. I practically wanted to stab the yellow eye out though XD. Maybe with a bit more practice i'll put up an updated one @_@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fushi-Chou In reply to Ostria [2011-12-23 03:36:48 +0000 UTC]

Yellow eyes are hard because they're so pale! You just have to compromise with a darker shade of the color, maybe for of a brown or a slighter deeper yellow! The reason why the eye is darker at the top is usually because lashes cause a shadow to fall over it. :3

Ostria In reply to Fushi-Chou [2011-12-23 06:19:22 +0000 UTC]

indeed, but i think i have an idea of how to master eyes now O_O. When i'm done with my contest drawing and 2 requests, i'm going to do rainbow eyes again O_O

Okay I found my fail in the whole water coloring incident. Can you tell me what um exactly you use for the line art, like which pen, which settings etc. @_@. Mine always looks like ickiness, By the way expect another comment on this by me, I'm trying to make pretty eyes with the tutorial and i'll link the results to you :3

Hmm...maybe your trial's run out? Have you tried googling it? (You'd be surprised what you can find if you dig deep!)

I've never had that problem myself so I'm not sure how I can help... D:
