Nice work mate. I like the composition, very nicely set out. I like how they all have very different poses/stances too, It brings out their characters,

Thanks, man. I put Nick Fury in my standard "tough guy" pose, but I thought that might get a little redundant by the fourth character I've been trying to work a little variety into my poses and positions lately.

Hmmm.... The first story arc was around 10 issues i think. It started pretty solid (and actually considered it to be one of the best books) but nearing the end of the arc, it was rushed and the art wasnt consistent anymore.
But all in all, it had a great run and the character was well explored.
But i guess you know Fury's back to kick Skrull ass and save the world.

Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-06 15:49:25 +0000 UTC]
Ahh, it wasn't that the art wasn't consistent, it's that for some reason David Aja (the normal artist) couldn't keep up with the deadlines, so they had other artists who they felt were similar to his style fill in. I felt it really ruined the feel of the later issues...

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-06 16:41:51 +0000 UTC]
That's what i meant. The title suffered coz of many different artists and some didnt even resemble the original artists style IMO. David Aja style was gritty but at the same time felt realistic. Kinda like DD's Alex Maleev.
But other than the art, the plot felt like it was rushed. I wish they had explored the tournament thing more.

Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-06 17:40:48 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, and Michael Lark, he was a good one too. Did you see Maleev's work on Mighty Avengers recently? Impressive stuff...

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-07 00:17:59 +0000 UTC]
Exactly! I love Maleev's work everywhere! But i think he traces over pics of people and render his inks over em. That's the rumor with Greg Land as well right? But that doesnt take anything away on how great he is though. Wish he stuck with DD.

Haha... i always knew that he traced his drawings from pictures (which i dont personally mind) but copying other artists' works is juz wrong. Why did he do that when he can draw stuff by his own? sheeeessshh

Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-07 13:27:58 +0000 UTC]
Maybe he just really really sucks at faces...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-07 14:00:17 +0000 UTC]
LOL.. but even then bro, he could always trace pictures right? i think its acceptable to base drawings from pics and he does a good job of doing so.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-07 14:22:30 +0000 UTC]
It's only bad if he is pretending that he isn't tracing.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-07 15:25:41 +0000 UTC]
True... if he denies that he's tracing, then he's not worth my while. There's no shame in that, why fool people?
The guy who does the Punisher covers, i think traces as well and he does it beautifully. It doesnt matter if one traces as long as he puts his own unique flavor to the piece rather than juz copy.

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-07 16:01:46 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm.... he blew me away with what he did in Civil War but i dont think he maintained the quality of his work in BND though. It juz didnt look that great. Dont know if its because of the characters he's doing or he kinda lost touch... dunno.
But i personally love Jae Lee and Deodato the most though as i like dark gritty but still maintain a balance between realism and flow of movement. And these two has been in the industry for quite some time now and im glad to have witnessed the evolution of their works! Oliver Copiel with his work in Thor blows me away as well.

Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-07 18:53:40 +0000 UTC]
Ahh, the problem with BND is that it was a weekly schedule, so it would've been rushed...
And yeah, Deodato flew up in my rankings after his work on thunderbolts

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-08 06:25:24 +0000 UTC]
Yeah.. that might have been the reason for Mckniven's work not up to par in Spidey. forgot about that.
Deodato is one of the most improved artists in the industry. I didnt even care about his work in the 90's but now, he's definitely in my top 5!

Lewis-Paul In reply to semaj007 [2008-06-08 09:03:46 +0000 UTC]
Originally I thought Deodato was lazy, like he was just shading everything to crap so he didn't have to put any detail in, but he has come along loads...

His style along with Jae Lee's and Texeira's is what i really like. Texeira's good but he always misses deadlines and his work isnt as good though when others ink his work.

Not really familiar with Texeira's work, but Jae Lee has gone down alot lately, I enjoyed his work on The Sentry series, but after that it looked lazy...

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-08 13:31:18 +0000 UTC]
You gotta be kidding me bro... his work in Dark Tower is the best ive seen him do. Its still dark and edgy but his style improved in realism a whole lot.
As for Texeira, he has done the best Wolverine and Ghostrider issues ive ever seen and his style suit those titles the best. Dirty, heavy, gritty and edgy! He's currently working in MoonKnight but he isnt inking though so, it doesnt look that good. TEX also did this Sabretooth miniseries before. A 4 issue mini but forgot the title.

semaj007 In reply to Lewis-Paul [2008-06-08 14:08:33 +0000 UTC]
I actually havent read it but i scanned throught the art in the first two issues and even if the story is shit (which it obviously isnt), the art alone would be enough to sell.
