I also wanted to add that I love how everyone else in this group with Shakespeare based characters stayed pretty true to the source material while I’m over here like, “Viola’s a mermaid ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ”

Cesario’s kind of a daredevil. One thing she loves to do is try out new things and take risks, and you can guarantee that going to a new school won’t stop her from doing so.
Boyish
Though it is discouraged greatly for girls to act like this where she’s from, Cesario likes to be her true self: a tom boy. She likes to be adventurous and fight for herself rather than sing and brush her hair all day like what her species is expected to do(seriously, though, that’s what she was expected to do at home).
Blunt
She doesn’t like to sugar coat anything. You can count on her to give it to you straight. But this also means that she sometimes offends some people with most things she says. She’s especially got a sharp tongue when she finds herself in an argument, which is more often than you’d think.
Kind
The one thing she does like to do that’s encouraged where she lives is be kind. Even if she can be blunt sometimes, she knows when it’s the right time to take a gentler approach. She mostly likes to be kind because not a lot of people were kind to her back home, and she doesn’t want anyone to feel the same way she did.
Loyal
Cesario, in one way or another, is like a dog: Once she’s your friend, she’ll stand by you until the end. She’s as loyal as one can get, and will fight alongside you no matter what the danger.
Rebellious
Cesario likes to break rules, but only if she really thinks the rules are BS. Sometimes, however, she can be rebellious to the point that she’s written up for detention. But trust me, she tries her best not to end up there. However, it still happens.
Background/Biography: Cesario was not her true birth name, but rather a name she gave herself when she started attending Ever After High. Her true name, which she doesn’t tell anyone, is Viola( pronunciation). Viola was born in a society of mermaids and mermen, where there were specific societal expectations that everyone had to live up to. Even though everyone called them “societal expectations,” they were more along the lines of gender roles. The woman were to be prim and proper and sing all day, brushing their hair, and the men were to be flirty and boyish, sinking ships that sailed into the wrong ocean and seducing unsuspecting human women. Viola’s twin brother, Sebastian, was okay with the societal expectations(since he was already kind of a flirt//slapped). As for Viola… yeah, the girly lifestyle she was expected to live up to just wasn’t for her. She was a bonafide tomboy. So she of course went against the societal expectations, and acted true to herself. And the other merpeople didn’t take this too lightly.
Many people began to shun and scold her, all except her brother, who was okay with how she was acting. The only other person besides Sebastian who was okay with her behavior was her aunt, Maria. Well technically she’s not her real aunt, because…
1) She’s only her mother’s adoptive sister.
2) She’s a selkie, and has the luxury of being able to go on land and in the water in a matter of moments(it’s different for merpeople, who have to wait to dry off to turn while selkies just have to take off their seal skins).
Viola had grown up with Maria long enough to the point that she treats her like her actual aunt. Pretty soon, everyone around Viola was becoming more subjectively violent about her behavior.
Teachers in school had begun making her sit out of class for her behavior, and one teacher even hit Viola on the back of the hand with a conch shell because she refused to brush her hair in the way they were ordering her to. Viola found herself visiting her aunt more often. Maria would always listen to her. She would always be there as Viola’s shoulder to cry on after a rough school day. She would always be there to let Viola be herself. She’d even take her onto the land every saturday for a little girl’s afternoon, without her brother, her father, or her mother. Just the two of them walking around the nearby town and window shopping. But then came the incident with the turret shell.
Viola had gone swiftly to her aunt’s home on land, crying. What had taken place moments before was a fight between her and a merman named Malvolio. He had a reputation for being pompous and sexist towards mermaids. So when he saw Viola acting like her true self, he let her know just how he felt. He first verbally abused her, but when she talked back, he smacked her across the face. Soon the two were in a heated battle, both beating each other with their bare hands. But everything took a turn for the worst when Malvolio grabbed an old turret shell and began defending himself with that.
This was when Sebastian barged in.
He went in to help her, but it ended up costing him a lot. Viola said nothing more about the fight, but Maria could guess as to what happened judging from the amount of bruises, scratches and bleeding cuts on her face(one of which left a permanent scar). Maria tended to Viola’s wounds so she would attract sharks on her way home, and soon her niece left with numerous bandages on her face and arms. Maria later heard of what had happened to Sebastian. Malvolio, while still using the turret shell, had taken out his eye. And from what Maria had heard, her sister and brother in law had scolded Viola for what had happened. They didn’t seem to care about how Malvolio had left Viola covered in cuts and Sebastian half blind. They kept saying that if she’d acted the way she should’ve, none of it would’ve happened. Maria was mortified, but there was little she could do. After the incident with Malvolio, as a last resort, Viola’s parents decided to enroll her at Ever After High.
They wanted her to attend the school in hopes of them changing her ways. This meant she’d have to leave her family behind. As a parting gift, her aunt Maria gave her an anklet made from twine and seaglass that she had found in the nearby town’s market. Sebastian had given her a sea glass earring as a parting gift, as well. All that was left was the application. But allowing Viola to fill out her own application might’ve been the biggest mistake her parents ever made.
Viola knew what her parents were up to. She wasn’t going to give in to their societal expectations just like that. She figured that maybe going to this school would mean a new start, and maybe a chance to meet better people than those she knew at home. But she was worried that Ever After High would actually try to change her ways, like her parents intended. So to be safe, she cut her hair and enrolled under the name of Cesario Baxter.
In other words, she attends Ever After High as a boy.
Orientation: Asexual/Heteroromantic(Basically, she likes boys. This is a bit of a dilemma considering the position she’s in as of right now)

Water Bending Manipulation
Cesario’s able to manipulate water, causing it to levitate, change its shape, and even change its state. She can use it to fight by changing its shape and then freezing it to create weapons and/or projectiles, but it takes some amount of concentration to successfully manipulate water. If she’s frightened or nervous, the water becomes shaky while she’s moving it, and she’s unable to freeze it without shattering it.
Body Type(Human): Lean, lanky, and athletic build with tan skin and a slight hourglass figure. She has a very small bust, which makes it easier to hide her true gender. She has a faded white scar along the right(it’s her right mind you) of her bottom jaw from the fight she got into with Malvolio. It stretches from her jaw line up right beside the right side of her mouth.
Body Type(Mermaid): She has finned ears that move to convey emotion, such as drooping when she’s sad or nervous, or flaring out when she’s surprise or angry. She has gills on her neck that allow her to breathe underwater. She’s able to breathe on land in her mermaid form due to having a special labyrinth organ near her gills. She has scales under her eyes, and even though all her scales do contain chromatophores(which allow her to change their color at will), she prefers to keep them a purple/violet hue. If she decides she wants to change their color to something else, she’d be limited to ocean type colors like purples, blues, greens, silvers, etc(When it’s all fantasy, but you feel like throwing in science//shot).
Clothing: Doesn’t really matter. So long as she looks like a boy, its all good. She does favor t-shirts, jeans and converse. She also wears tight waterproof bandages around her torso to make her chest appear flatter(since she can’t get her hands on chest binders as of right now).

Despite the video clips, Cesario is able to make her speaking voice sound masculine enough to fool people(I’d imagine it would sound something like Luffy( x)). However, her singing voice is very obviously that of a woman, and she can’t make it sound any different. So another thing she must do to keep her true gender a secret is to not sing. And trust me, this is the hardest thing of all for her to do, considering one thing that’s very normal in her mermaid society was to break out into song(because, you know, they’re mermaids//hit). Sometimes she risks it and decides to sing, but rarely does she get caught. And when she does get caught, she’s able to cover it up very easily.(“I used to imitate my sister all the time. I got really good at it.”)

Extras:
here’s only two ways to tell that Cesario’s a girl. One would be to see her, uh… naked(self explanatory), and the other is for her to change into a mermaid. Mermaids of her genus have scales that cover their stomach and chest, while mermen don’t. It’s their form of sexual dimorphism.
Cesario will turn into a mermaid when wet, so she tries to stay away from water(which is easier said than done). The transformation isn’t physical whatsoever. Whatever she’s wearing to cover her legs will simply disappear until she dries off, so she won’t have to worry about ripping her clothes. Whatever she’s wearing over her torso, however, does not disappear when she turns(which is convenient considering that without a shirt, her secret would be out).
The only person in Cesario’s family who actually knows she’s enrolling as a guy is her brother, Sebastian. She had to tell him because he stated he would be visiting her. And Sebastian took this surprisingly well, and agreed to go along with the act.
Cesario’s mother taught her many things so that she could hopefully live up to societal expectations. One of these things was how to cook. She’s pretty good at it, but she can’t make anything too complicated. The best she can do as of right now is pizza.
Along with cooking, Cesario was also taught how to sew. She’s now pretty good at it. She’ll make you a teddy bear or a dress for free if you say please.
As a mermaid, her finned ears move to convey emotions. They droop when sad or scared and flare out when surprised or angry.
Cesario’s blood contains both hemoglobin and hemocyanin. Hemoglobin(which is red) transports oxygen while she’s breathing air, and hemocyanin(which is blue) transports it while she’s breathing underwater. The combination of both colors makes her blood appear purple when she bleeds. On top of that, she also blushes purple. (I’m making this too scientifically accurate orz)
When she cries, her tears turn to violet sea glass when they leave her eyes.
She doesn’t exactly like cecaelias, but she doesn’t despise them either. In fact, she’s never even met one before. She just finds the idea of an excessive number of exceedingly flexible limbs kind of creepy. Not to mention her father was kind of racist towards them and it may have rubbed off on her a bit//shot
That cowlick she has is completely natural. And trust me, she’s tried to straighten it, but its untamable
Because she could potentially be revealed as a girl, Cesario will probably only bathe when her roommate is either elsewhere or asleep. Either way, she’ll lock the bathroom door just to be safe.
Because of some english assignments in middle school, Cesario’s developed a deep hatred for Shakespeare(ohoho the irony). Despite this, she really likes the play Something Rotten.

I'm happy I'm not the only one in this group that likes Twelfth Night. And I'll be honest, the second I saw Viola was still available I was like, "must reserve!"
And yeah, the mermaid thing was partially me wanting to get creative with it and partially me being like, "Well, she gets shipwrecked in the play, so it'd kinda make sense."
