Full view please[EDIT] If you make use of the tutorial let me know~ :3 I'd love to see the results!
[EDIT 2] Fixed a couple of typos~
The first of a few tutorials I plan to do.
Since people where interested in lighting and someone asked me more specifically how I did this photo: [link] I figured I'd start off with something simple that only requires natural light.
Feel free to let me know if there's something that doesn't make sense or could do with more explanation.

This is very helpful for me, especially with the terms and abbreviations that I never knew what they meant until now.

in all your bjd photography you often rely on natural light? no strobes at all?

Geekisthecolour In reply to ifiam [2009-10-05 16:33:39 +0000 UTC]
I've got a couple of lamps that I use for indoor stuff but yeah, it's mostly natural light, sometimes supplemented with a reflector.

Thanks so much for posting this!
I can change the ISO on my camera, but not the Aperture. I'm sure this is a really obvious question, but my camera is just a plain old digital one so I need a lens to change Aperture- is that right?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Geekisthecolour In reply to Emuishere [2009-09-27 09:46:55 +0000 UTC]
It depends, some point and shoots will let you change the aperture and some wont but yeah, if you want complete control then ideally you want an SLR with interchangeable lenses.
If you can control the exposure settings on your camera then it shouldn't matter too much that you can't change the aperture though, the idea is just to get as much light into the camera as possible to blow out the background so you might just end up using a longer shutter speed that's all.

This is a great tutorial that I already see being put to use on my watch and friends lists! It's definitely not something I've tried before, and I do only have one window that the sun shines directly in at any point during the day, so I'll have to bide my time and try this out at the perfect moment. I will link back to you if my fail results are worth posting.

This is wonderful; simple and yet entirely informative. I'm still very much an entry photographer, so the exact definitions and applications of things like aperture, ISO and the like are still sorta going over my head.
This helped quite a bit; thanks for taking the time to create it!

I really like the bit on exposures It's the very basics of photography, but there are some people who jump right into the art without knowing what aperture is and how it relates to shutter speed (which I did |D) Using as little post-processing as possible, because the resulting exposures were already very good, is the best way to go.
This is a definitely tutorial that could be used by everybody, and not just BJD photographers <3!
