Description
I really hesitated to upload this one since initially I thought there was still the chance that this guy could crop up at some point in the future. However upon reviewing my notes for Act 2, there really isn't a place for this guy. I have a well-defined list of all the monsters that are going to appear in Act 2 and this guy didn't make the cut (Probably because I forgot he even existed tbh, lol).Anyway concept wise this monster came from two different dreams that I mashed together into one idea. The first was of a huge, fleshy creature that had been slain and as some guy approached it, a boil on it's skin ruptured and showered the guy in acid. It was kind of gruesome, and the image stuck with me long after I woke up. The second dream was far more terrifying, especially if you have any degree of thalassophobia. It started out with several dead whales that washed up on the shore of a lake (???). I was part of a team sent in to investigate what's been causing these whale deaths and the investigation started on a boat. I don't remember very many of the details, but I remember being in the water with this thing more than once and it was absolutely terrifying. I could only see bits and pieces of it at any given time which added to the fear factor because I had no idea how big this thing was or what it looked like in full. This was in large part due to the water being muddy and murky, as well as the creature remaining largely underwater.
From what little I could see of it, it had a plesiosaur-like neck with long, needle-like teeth. It's eyes had multiple segmented "rings" that were different shades of red. The eyes rested flat on the top of it's head, and didn't appear to be able to move. Instead of fins or flippers (that I could see anyway), it appeared to be able to propel itself through the water through the use of long, smooth tentacles. The last thing I remember is it's head/neck lunging out of the water and destroying the dock I was running away from it on. Thankfully, I managed to hide in a barn from in it, and it didn't seem to be able to come ashore. Greasy:1, Lake Monster: 0. Anyway due to the illusive nature of the creature and the muddy water it lived in, I had a very, very vague idea of what it looked like. Therefor when designing it, I kind of had to "fill in the gaps" and guess what the rest of it looked like. The result is the nasty critter you see here, in all it's horrific glory.
Given that a lot of ideas for Contaminant came directly from dreams I had, this guy seemed like a perfect fit for the series. However every time I had an idea to introduce the monster, I scrapped it in favor of something else. This happened about 5 different times before I just forgot about this guy all together lol. Now that ContamiNOPEs are a thing, I figured now was a good a time as any to finally give this design some form of closure, even if it means telling you that it's never going to see the light of day. Given that it got nope'd 5 different times, I think it's safe to say that this guy IS a perfect fit for the series, lol. Origin wise, I suppose it was intended to be some sort of mutated slug or snail that had lost it's shell. The "head" actually isn't a head at all, but a modified tentacle that functions more like an appendage to attack or grab things. The creature's actual head is located at the base of the body, and is very slug-like in appearance. The big yellow bladders on the sides of it's body would be used to control buoyancy that would allow it to rise or sink at will while using the fin-like paddles to propel itself slowly through the water.
