Known mutations:
-Both The Cyclops and Hobgoblins have an unnatural tolerance to physical injury and can continue fighting despite severe wounds
-Limited regenerative capabilities allow The Cyclops and Hobgoblins to quickly heal minor injuries such as gunshot wounds. Not as advanced as other mutants which can regrow whole limbs
-Both The Cyclops and Hobgoblins possess seemingly superhuman strength. Theorized to be a result of mutations to the brain that remove the body's self limiting faculties, thus allowing them to use their full strength despite risk of injury. The Cyclops is much stronger than it's decrepit appearance would suggest
-Hobgoblins are capable of quick bursts of speed, going from shuffling to a blinding dash that an catch unprepared combatants off-guard
-"Symbiosis" between The Cyclops and the Hobgoblins. The Hobgoblins seek out live victims and take the them back to their lair where the Cyclops feeds on them. In return, the Cyclops defends the lair from intruders and protects the Hobgoblins as well as allowing them to eat the leftovers of it's meals
History:
Though humanity had already encountered a diverse array of mutants so far, with plenty more still to come, none were as disturbing and uncanny as the ones they would find on May 10th, 1977. It began with a series of disappearances near Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. The bulldozing of an old train station just outside of town unearthed some previously undiscovered tunnels believed to be a Civil War-era mine. Due to the age of the mine and the inherent hazards associated with them, the workers avoided entering the tunnels without protective gear and simply reported the discovery to the foreman.
Later that night, two workers returned to the site with the intent to explore the mine and loot any precious minerals or relics they could find within. Despite the inherent dangers associated with old mines like these, the workers proceeded into the dark tunnels equipped with flashlights and other tools. The men were only able to explore a very small portion of the tunnels before being scared off by strange sounds and the overpowering smell of decay coming from deep within.
The next day, operations where suspended and a team of surveyors where sent into the tunnels to investigate and survey the tunnels. After hours went by, the survey team did not return to the surface even when they where due. A second team was sent down to look for them, and quickly ran into trouble when shouting and snarling was heard over the team's communication equipment. After a while only 2 out of the 5 men sent down returned, some with serious injuries resembling bite marks and scratches. After their wounds were treated, they where debriefed on what exactly happened in the tunnels. They explained that 15 minutes into the tunnels, they came under attack by what appeared to be violent vagrants.
Due to the low-light conditions, it was difficult to make out any details other that a humanoid shape and scraps of clothing. It was determined that these tunnels are probably home to a homeless community. It was suggested that these vagrants might be responsible for the disappearances near the town, given their highly aggressive nature. Though there was no direct evidence that these vagrants were responsible for the missing people, no other explanation presented itself. It was decided to send down an armed police unit to try and peacefully negotiate with the vagrants to leave the dangerous tunnels and perhaps see if they knew anything about the missing people.
Armed with shotguns, pistols and sub-machine guns, the police unit descended into the tunnels and proceeded towards the segment of the tunnels where the surveyors where attacked. Upon arriving at the site, they could clearly see the signs of a struggle. Flashlights and hard-hats lay strewn about as well as a surface map of the area. There was very little blood, indicating that the missing surveyors might still be alive. Proceeding deeper into the tunnels, the unit began to smell the nauseating stench of decay. Being experienced officers, they knew that this was unmistakably the smell of a decomposing body.
Upon traveling further, the officers found a large hole in the wall of one of the tunnels that led to a large cavern and within it, a large mound of human and animal remains in various stages of decomposition. Some of the remains appeared to be partially eaten, some sporting enormous bite marks too large to be that of a normal human. The sight of the bodies was so gruesome that some of the officers began to vomit. Inspection of the remains of clothing on the bodies seem to match the description of some of the missing persons. It seems that now they had enough evidence to determine that these vagrants where indeed responsible for the disappearances.
From a small tunnel that was situated near the opening, the men heard the sound of crunching and chewing coming from within. Approaching cautiously, the policemen shined their flashlight into the hole and where horrified by what they saw: one of the "vagrants" was feasting on the corpse of one of the surveyors sent down earlier. The cannibal barely looked human, it's body wracked with deformities and lesions like those seen in The Progenitor, The Cryptids and other mutants known to the public. The light from their flashlights caught the creature's attention, and it let out a wet snarl of irritation as it shielded it's eyes from the light.
The men stepped back and the mutant rose to it's feet, shuffling forward with an unstable gait. The officers attempted to talk the creature down, hoping there was still a shred of humanity left in the monster. They where proven wrong when the creature suddenly dashed forward at blinding speeds, tackling one of the officers to the ground and began to bite and claw at him. Two other officers jumped in to pull the mutant off of their colleague, but found the humanoid to be much stronger than appearances suggested. The crazed mutant stood up and backhanded one of the officers in the face so hard that it broke the man's jaw and knocked out several teeth.
At last, the crack of gunfire echoed throughout the cave as two officers opened fire with their M1911 pistols. The .45 ACP ammunition tore through the mutant's warped body, but did little to slow the creature down as it lunged at the armed attackers. Several more rounds where fired into the creature's stomach, causing it to fold and collapse to the ground. Still unwilling to die, the hideous abhuman continued to crawl towards the officers. One of the officers armed with a shotgun pressed his boot down on the mutant's back and fired a point blank, 12 gauge buckshot into the back of the mutant's head. The blast from the shotgun made the mutant's head explode like an overripe watermelon, bits of bone and brain matter painted the ground a gory red.
The whole struggle made the officers pause to catch their breath and gather their thoughts. Suddenly, they heard more of the horrific wet snarls coming from deeper within the cave and saw terrifying shadows on the cave walls approaching. Knowing that could only mean more of the mutants, the officers rounded up the two wounded officers and fled the caverns as quickly as possible. It was clear that this problem would require more than a team of policemen, this needed some sort of military intervention. The mayor of Harper's Ferry petitioned the National Guard to come and destroy the monsters before they entered the town or killed more people. After hearing the accounts of the officers who were sent in, the next day the National Guard deployed several squads of soldiers loaded up in large carrier vehicles.
The soldiers were much better armed than the police men; carrying M60 light machine guns, M16 rifles, flamethrowers and Mossberg M500 shotguns. The soldiers disembarked from the transports and formed up into 5 squads with 4 men in each and marched off towards that accursed dig site where the tunnels lay below. Another 4 squads stayed topside as back-up in case things got hairy. The First squad "Alpha", was the first to go in, followed by Delta, Gamma, Omega, and Epsilon. The squads split up to cover the most ground and clear the tunnels more efficiently. Mere minutes into the operation, gunfire echoed within the tunnels: Omega squad was the first to come face-to-face with the hideous mutants.
The mutants seemed immune to pain as the 5.56mm rounds of the M16 rifles punched through the attacking creature's bodies without slowing them down. The .50 caliber rounds of the M60 machine guns proved to be much more effective, tearing off entire limbs and blowing golf ball-sized holes into the wretched mutants. To prevent the creatures from getting to close, the soldiers aimed for the legs to disable them before finishing them off with shotguns and flamethrowers. In total, Omega squad had killed four of the mutants before they proceeded further into the tunnels. The other squads soon came under attack as well, and began taking casualties from ambushes set by the mutants.
One soldier was blitzed by one of the mutants, the creature moving so fast that he perceived it as a blur of motion. The unnaturally strong mutant pinned the soldier to the ground before sinking it's snagged teeth into the man's throat. The soldier gurgled a muffled scream before the mutant tore his throat from his neck, bathing in the spurts of blood from it's victim. Another man was gunned down by a squad mate on accident due to one of the mutants attempting to wrestle his M16 rifle from his hands. The squad's flamethrower immolated two attacking creatures in hellish flames; the creatures screamed and flailed as the tunnels filled with the foul odor of burning hair and flesh.
Panic set in as all squads began taking casualties, forcing squad leaders to issue the order to retreat and regroup at the tunnel entrance. As the soldiers withdrew, they caught a glimpse of the horrid beasts dragging the corpses of their fallen comrades deeper into the caves. Not expecting this kind of resistance, the squads successfully regrouped and evaluated their next move. The creatures knew these tunnels much better than they did and thus ambushes would be the biggest concern. The creatures also preferred to fight in close-quarters, thus flamethrowers and shotguns would be their go-to armaments. The M16s and M60 machine guns, while effective at range, lost their effectiveness once the creatures got close. The M60 was too heavy to maneuver and the M16 could not reliably kill the mutants before they got within mauling range.
With their new strategy, the squads traveled together now for safety in numbers. After half an hour, there was a distinct lack of mutants in the tunnels. Some soldiers were uneasy, the threat of an ambush ever present. Perhaps the mutants believed that they had left and thus returned deeper into the tunnels? The soldiers had arrived at the large hole in the tunnel wall that led to the caverns the officers had explored earlier. The decapitated mutant killed by the officers still lay on the ground in a pool of it's own blood, flies and insects already taking interest in the corpse. The soldiers noted foot prints on the dirt floor of the caverns leading into a dark tunnel large enough to fit two school buses stacked one on top of the other.
Swallowing their mounting fear, the soldiers proceeded into the cavern with their flashlights on. After about ten minutes of stumbling around in the dark, the soldiers heard that sickening wet snarl that made the hairs on the back of their necks stick up. Shining their flashlight, the soldiers froze as they where completely surrounded by the humanoids. Some where completely naked, others still bore scraps of clothing that seemed to suggest that they were once humans. Surprisingly, the mutants did not attack but merely watched the soldiers, hunched and crouched like feral animals. The ground trembled with large footsteps coming from a large, dark chamber at the far end of the cave. An enormous shadow emerged from the chamber, revealing itself to be what could only be described as a gigantic humanoid that strongly resembled the smaller, human-sized mutants.
This monster was even more hideously deformed than it's smaller brethren. It's head was pushed downwards due to a humped back and it's one eye was fused shut by warped flesh; the other eye stared at the puny humans with palpable malice. In it's hands where badly decomposed human corpses that seemed more like dolls in it's massive clawed hands. Without taking it's gaze off the soldiers, the giant raised one of the corpses up to it's dislocated mouth and took a bite out of the rancid flesh like it was jerky. Putrid juices dripped from it's yellowed teeth as the creature snarled at the soldiers. Perceiving this gesture as a threat, the soldiers divided their fire between the giant and the smaller mutants.
Flamethrowers roared, burning the smaller mutants to a crisp. Gunfire did little other than irritate the giant one, who stood up and roared in anger. Dropping it's rotting meals, the beast grabbed a thick stalactite from the cavern ceiling and snapped it off with ease before throwing it like a spear. The stalactite projectile struck one of the soldiers with pinpoint accuracy, but the massive size of the stalactite utterly obliterated the man's body. The soldiers scattered, firing wildly into the caverns or running in any direction. The only light in the cave was from the gout of flames from the flamethrowers or the muzzle flashes from the rifles and machine guns. The giant smashed another man with it's enormous fist and batted away another. One by one, the soldiers who chose to stay and fight where wiped out.
Those who fled discovered an old mine entrance that led to the forests outside of Harper's Ferry. The entrance of the mine shaft was covered with thick vegetation from a century of abandonment. Behind them they could hear the same thundering footsteps as before, and the three surviving men readied their weapons and braced for the worst. The entrance to the mine exploded open as if by a bomb and the colossal humanoid bellowed aloud, 15 of the smaller mutants rushing out to meet it. It's singular eye rolled around in it's socket until it found the terrified soldiers who immediately opened fire on it. Flamethrowers belched fire at the colossus which seemed unbothered by the searing napalm that clung to it's flesh.
Reaching over to it's left, the behemoth grabbed a large oak tree and ripped it from the ground as though it where merely a weed. The giant swung the tree and immediately killed two of the three soldiers, the sheer force of the swing liquefying them on impact, leaving only a puddle of pulped viscera where they stood. The survivor had managed to duck the swing and run away towards the town. He desperately attempted to hail for reinforcements as he could feel the vibrations from the giant's footsteps in the ground. Suddenly the ground mere inches to his right was uprooted by the blood stained tree that the giant wielded, now thrown like a spear that just barely missed him. The soldier swore and began praying aloud to whatever god could hear him through the cacophony of snarling, howling and screaming of the monstrosities chasing him.
He finally exited the forest and was nearly hit by a pickup truck that swerved out of the way at the last minute. The soldier, covered in blood and grime, desperately tried to convince the driver of the truck to get away as fast as possible but before he could continue on with his panicked raving, the colossus emerged from the tree line with it's small army of servants. The soldier sprinted down the road, but the driver of the truck stood no chance; he was dragged out of the truck and pulled in half by two of the human mutants. The soldier threw himself into a pit on the side of the road surrounded by bushes, whispering prayers under his breath as the mutants searched for him. To his luck, the creatures where unable to locate him and continued down the road towards town.
The soldier once again tried to hail for reinforcements over his radio and finally received an answer. He warned the back-up squads at the dig site of the coming danger and that these creatures are a lot more numerous and dangerous than they thought, including a giant one that acted as a sort of pack leader. The soldiers at Harper's Ferry began to evacuate as many people as possible while fortifying as many entrances into the town as they could with what little resources and manpower they could. Ideally there should be an entire platoon along with vehicle and air support backing them, but it would take hours for help to arrive. No sooner had they finished fortifying did the ugly head of the enormous mutant rear over the rooftops of the buildings, it's eye probing the mediocre human defenses.
Suddenly the soldiers where attacked from all angles by the smaller mutants who attacked with unmatched savagery. The giant strode down the streets of Harper's Ferry, unharmed by gunfire and flamethrowers as it kicked aside cars like a child with toys. The soldiers where eventually forced inside St. Peter's church where they barricaded the windows and doors to prevent the mutants from getting in. Despite their best efforts to barricade the church, the giant's foot smashed through the side of the church and created a large opening for the mutants to enter through. The titan's fist plowed through the roof, snatching one of the soldiers from where he stood. Seeing that the upper floor of the church was no longer safe, the rest of the men retreated into the basement where they barricaded the door yet again and prepared for a last stand.
After several hours, reinforcements arrived to a ruined ghost town that was almost unrecognizable as Harper's Ferry. Arriving shortly after the National Guard, several unmarked vehicles pulled up to the scene and mysterious men in hazmat suits began surveying the area with Geiger counters. The church was searched as well, where it was discovered that although the soldiers managed to kill several of the mutants, they where eventually overrun and slain to the last man. It was found that the mutants were heavily saturated in radiation matching that of Nebranium, consistent with the kind found in The Progenitor and The Cryptids. Several dead specimens where collected and loaded into the unmarked vans. The surviving soldier from the tunnels, Pvt Allen F. Anton was also found wandering aimlessly along the roads outside of town. Due to the traumatic events he had undergone, he was placed in extensive psychiatric treatment.
As for the other mutants, no trace of their current whereabouts could be found, and as such are considered to be active and at large. Harper's Ferry was deemed a hazardous zone and closed off to the public indefinitely. With this most recent turn of events, the public at large was now fully aware that these mutants existed and were steadily becoming a fact of life rather than freak occurrences...

Oh boy...another one whom survived. Mankind needs to stop letting that happen.
Yet another good one. One thing that really helps your kaijuverse stand out is that it is more 'Classic American Monster Movie' and less 'Classic Japanese Monster Movie'. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the toku genre, even more than I love american movie monsters. But it is nice to every now and than see some creatures who are more in the King Kong or Rampage scale of power tier and menace.
The Cyclops here is another fine addition to this verse, and not one I was expecting to be honest. A human monster in the vein of the Amazing Colossal Man or the 50's monster of the same name...albeit done SO MUCH better. I'm always of the opinion a kaiju spawned from a human should look utterly horrific, whilst still looking human.'
This indeed met my criteria. I am not usually a fan of gaunt humanoid monsters (They are getting REALLY stale these days), but here it actually works in his favor, perhaps because it's not his defining trait. He has other grotesquely exaggerated features that just make him look awful.
The same goes for his Hobgoblin pals. Whilst not a fan of zombies, the fact that they have a giant amongst their ranks, aren't mindless and that they are superhumanly strong really does make for a more imposing threat...and now that they are on the lose, god help us.
I'd be lying if I said he looked like he'd fare well against some of your other kaiju though. The Bear, Kraken, Pig, Megapede, Firstborn, Mauler, Devourer and Sandy all dwarf him pretty handily. If I had to guess, I think he could do fair decently against the Parasite, Larval Sandy and Cavernhook, and would most certainly defeat the Leviathan, albeit only if it was beached on land, otherwise it would thrash him even worse than the others I mentioned.
That's not a criticism, just an observation. I think it would be neat to see the Cyclops perhaps use the remnants of his human intelligence and smaller size to hold out in fights with with larger and stronger monsters, ala Godzilla vs Kong.

Always appreciate your thoughs, my man!
I agree and disagree with the Cavernook though. Physically he might be able to keep up but if he gets bit, he's going to end up dying later from Hemorrhagic Rabies anyway. Though that time period between getting bit and dying is going to be a disaster given that he's going to be in a berserker rage haha.

I said he'd do decently, a sin he's fare better against the Cavernhook than say the Bear, whom would maul him as bad as their normal counterparts. Never said that he'd win, infact I very much doubt he would XD. The rabies would fuck with his life big time, and that's not even factoring in that the Cavernhook can fly were as he can't.
