Description If anyone's been talking to me the past few days they'll know how obsessed I've become with the song "Stay Together For the Kids" by Blink 182. It was kind of a coincidence that I got really addicted to this song right around fathers day too because obviously for kids growing up, mothers and father's day are going to spark some sort of feeling, and not every time it's going to be a very pleasant one.

For me this isn't the case, but I can definitely feel for the people that do because heck...I hate seeing my friends upset, and who wouldn't?

The reason for the dual image deals with the idea of separation, or to put it simply, divorce. I'm sure you all know that using myself in my art has become a common theme these days. This project was completely inspired by feelings I had on the subject, so it simply makes sense to me to put myself right in the art. Hope everyone can feel this piece of art of mine. Thanks for viewing!

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost.
It's not right

"Stay Together for the Kids" Boy, do I have experience with that one. I really enjoy how you divided the picture plane here. The right side is powerful, but your choice of cropping makes it so your expression is not overwhelming the viewer. Nice work.

Thanks, yeah I'm quite happy with the way the space turned out here. Glad you like the piece

The shape of this--the division--the larger and smaller sections reminds me of a piece that I did for a Joseph Cornell box-esque art assignment back in high school pertaining to my parents then separation. Yeah. It's definitely a division that God never intends, but I've seen how he works through (and even in spite of) it to work out his master plan. He's good.

Nice technical lighting and facial expressions, btw.

Woot, I finally got some time to comment on this. I gave a listen to the song too, I've never heard it until now. I really like your stuff inspired by music Keith, you are starting to really develop a distinct style.

I love how this is constructed. I especially like how much emphasis is on your face, the eyes and mouth in particular. The tension in your neck, the motion of your hair...you really captured some strong emotions here. The frustration, raw anger...it's like you've got a silent scream you've been keeping repressed and you're just on the verge of letting it go (I'm actually kind of curious if you did really scream to pull this off hehe, either way, you pulled it off!). Good choice with the background/location too. The shower is kind of a "wash-away" and "safe-haven" type place for a lot of people. Nice work, you've captured the emotion of the song quite well!

Thanks a ton! Yeah I realized that music is a big inspiration for people, especially me and it's something I feel strongly about, so instead of aimlessly naming another piece after a song I heard, why not make the entire project based off of a song that's holding dear to me? Might not be the most original concept, but after all, a large part of art is about connecting with the viewers, and if I can get through to anyone, I consider it a job well done.

For the record, I wasn't screaming since this was done at almost 3 in the morning with my parents sleeping right across the narrow hallway from me, but trust me, the feeling was there. I had a lot of adrenaline pumping due to the riskiness of doing a project in the bathroom with other people in the house not having any idea what you were up to, plus the light was making everything very hot so yeah, it was a pretty intense project! And yeah, thanks for noticing that too; I think for anyone it's a place to go to when you don't want to be bothered and need to let off some steam, plus I damped my hair pretty well in this so I can shake it around without making too much of a mess lol. Thank you so much Emily as always

hhngh i thought i added this to favourites already

anyway hun, like I said on MSN, the emotion behind this is stunning, I just adore how you captured the dynamics and expression. Great job with the lighting as well, the high contrast kinda helps bring out the expression a lot. Overall, amazing work!

Yeah I mean, high contrast always brings out mood and emotion in artwork, so it would only make sense for something that's displaying anguish to have high contrast. Thanks a ton for the comment

I absolutely love the feeling expressed in this photo. I'll have to check out the Blink182 song you mentioned, I don't think I've heard of it.

Thanks a ton for the comment! Yeah definitely, I can give you a youtube link if you want. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the raw emotion put in the song is great, makes the content seem very real.

YAY! You did it! Hahah. I wasn't sure if you were really going to get up from your computer last night to go take this shot, but I like the way it came out. (: It's always great to find inspiration and ideas from music.

I like the angle and the color contrast that you used here. It adds more effect to the shot, and emotion, too. Stay Together For The Kids is such a sad song.. But it's definitely an awesome one. (:

Well it's hard to find time between work to do art, so I knew once the idea got in my head I simply had to do it!

And thanks! I edited the colors a bit as you can tell, makes the scene look a bit more cold which helps the mood of the piece. And yeah it is, I dunno what it is, but songs about divorce and separation seem to really hit me hard a lot. It's something that I think everyone can relate to because I'm sure everyone in the world has someone that's close to them that has had some sort of connection with divorce.

Oh my goodness.
I wasn't expecting this in my inbox.
The picture is really elaborate and high in detail.

Your fiercely anguished expression just shouts out everything.
This photograph is really deep... not sure how else I can emphasis that besides looking at the picture.

Thanks...I really need a remote, these timed portraits at a low aperture are really hard to know where to stand for the focus to be good, but I'm glad the detail is there

Well I say I did my job then hehe, thanks a ton ^_^
